Poliwrath is a Water- and Fighting-type Pokémon, and its official Pokédex entry (#0062) lists both types. Other species, such as Keldeo and Quaquaval, also appear in official Pokédex searches for this type pairing, so check each one’s entry before treating any list as complete.
The direct example: Poliwrath
Poliwrath is the clearest answer to the question. The Pokémon Company International’s official Pokédex lists it as #0062 with a Water primary type and a Fighting secondary type. That pairing is what makes it a dual-type Water/Fighting Pokémon rather than a pure Water or pure Fighting one.
Poliwrath at a glance
| Attribute | Poliwrath (official Pokédex) |
|---|---|
| Pokédex number | #0062 |
| Types | Water / Fighting |
| Weaknesses | Grass, Electric, Flying, Psychic, Fairy |
| Abilities | Damp and Water Absorb |
| Evolution line | Poliwag → Poliwhirl → Poliwrath; Poliwhirl can alternatively evolve into Politoed |
Abilities worth knowing
Water Absorb is the more distinctive of Poliwrath’s two abilities. According to the official Pokédex, when this Pokémon is hit by a Water-type move, that move restores HP instead of dealing damage. Damp is the other listed ability.
Other Water/Fighting species
The official Pokédex search, filtered by type, also surfaces Keldeo and Quaquaval. Those names are useful leads, but this article has not confirmed their individual entries, so treat them as candidates. Open each species’ page in the official Pokédex and confirm both listed types before you cite it. Type filters and advanced search, which the Pokédex also offers by weakness and ability, make that check quick.

Pokémon GO: a separate rule
Typing matters differently in Pokémon GO. In its raid battle tips, The Pokémon Company International (2023) says that when a Pokémon uses an attack that shares one of its types, that attack receives an additional 20% damage. Poliwrath and Shadow Poliwrath are named as Water/Fighting examples in that guidance. This 20% figure comes from the Pokémon GO context and should not be applied to the main video games, where the battle formulas are different.
Why the TCG terminology differs
Pokémon trading cards use a related but separate vocabulary. In the Pokémon Trading Card Game rules, “Energy” types power card attacks; they are not the same thing as a Pokémon’s species type in the video games. A Water/Fighting Pokémon in the games does not automatically map onto a particular Energy cost in the card game. If you are looking for Poliwrath cards, the official TCG Card Database lets you search by Water and Fighting, which is the most reliable way to find matching printed cards.
