On the cross-gen question, “cross-gen” covers three separate things in this game: which paired console versions your purchase unlocks, whether your progress carries over, and whether your DLC does. The answers differ by platform, so the rules are easier to follow one at a time.
The first WWE 2K25 entrance reveal
The Outerhaven’s February 4, 2025 report describes 2K’s rollout of WWE 2K25 entrances as a “slow drip feed,” and identifies The Rock’s “Final Boss” entrance as the first one shown. The article links to a video titled “WWE2K25 Final Boss The Rock First Look Crazy Full Entrance.” Its description of the familiar “If ya smell!” music and an extended lightning-screen intro comes from that report and the linked footage, not from a written official specification.

2K’s official gameplay trailer announcement, which called the trailer a first gameplay look, covered new matchups, brawl environments, Underground and Bloodline Rules matches, chain wrestling, MyGM online, MyFACTION World Tour, and The Island. It did not identify The Rock’s entrance as the first entrance reveal. If you are citing the entrance rollout, attribute it to The Outerhaven and link to the report rather than to 2K.
What “cross-gen” means in WWE 2K25
Three rules get bundled under the term, and each one works differently.

Standard Edition entitlement
According to 2K’s support FAQ, “WWE 2K25: Order and Edition FAQ” (published January 28, 2025, updated July 8, 2026), Standard Edition includes entitlement across the paired console generations: PS4 and PS5, or Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S. Entitlement means you can access the paired-generation version of the game. It does not guarantee that every save, DLC item, online mode, or user creation moves between platforms.
Cross-progression and the shared VC wallet
The FAQ separates progression from currency. The table below shows the rules as the FAQ describes them.

In practice, a PlayStation player who moves from PS4 to PS5 can carry progress forward, while an Xbox player moving from Xbox One to Series X|S keeps the shared currency but starts progression over. Check the FAQ before assuming an Xbox save will follow you.
DLC does not transfer
Purchased DLC stays with the generation where you bought it. The FAQ states this for both PlayStation and Xbox pairings, so budget for repurchasing if you switch generations and want the same content.

Upgrading a PS4 disc to the PS5 digital version
2K’s support article “Using PS5 Digital Version With PS4 Physical Cross-Gen Edition” (published March 4, 2025, updated July 28, 2025) describes this route for the PS4 physical Cross-Gen Edition. It covers the PS4 disc and PS5 digital access only; it does not apply to Xbox discs or other purchase paths.
- Sign in to the PSN account you want to use on the PS5.
- Insert the PS4 WWE 2K25 disc into the PS5.
- From the PS5 home screen, open PlayStation Store and claim the PS5 version. 2K’s instructions describe this claim as free.
- Keep the physical disc. The disc is what supports your access to the PS5 digital version, so do not discard it.
The Community Creations report
The Outerhaven also reported in February 2025 that Community Creations sharing across generations would be unavailable. The article attributes this to an unnamed content creator’s account of a conversation with a 2K representative at an event, and it describes parts of that claim as rumor. The official FAQ confirms the progression and wallet rules above, but it does not confirm the Community Creations claim. Treat this as an attributed report, not official policy, and check 2K’s support pages before relying on it.

The Island and platform availability
The Island was announced for PS5 and Xbox Series X|S. The FAQ lists it as exclusive to those two platforms, and PS4, Xbox One, and PC are not part of that list. A later Switch 2 support announcement, “Coming to a Switch 2 Near You” (July 14, 2025), added Switch 2 and gave July 23, 2025 as the date for The Island on that platform. The FAQ’s supported-platform list was written before the Switch 2 announcement, so it does not include Switch 2.

The gameplay trailer announcement adds new brawl environments, the return of chain wrestling, and MyFACTION World Tour. These are announced features; the official pages describe what the game includes, but they do not provide performance, frame rate, or loading-time comparisons between platforms.
Checking the current position
The entrance report dates from February 2025, and the platform rules are from the FAQ and support pages dated 2025, with updates through July 2026. Annual WWE 2K titles can change their entitlement, cross-progression, and DLC rules between releases, so confirm the current FAQ and the edition you are buying before making a purchase decision based on these rules.
The earlier WWE 2K25 entrance reveal stands as a dated report, and the cross-gen rules stand as 2K’s published support terms.
