WWE 2K25 is worth buying if you want a mode-heavy wrestling game and you play on PS5, Xbox Series X|S, or Switch 2. Its strongest additions are the 2K Showcase: The Bloodline’s Dynasty, a reworked MyRISE, an expanded MyGM, and new match types. Its weakest points are monetization in some modes and a graphics trade-off on the handheld version. This review covers WWE 2K25 as it launched in 2025. Later patches, editions, and the retail listings you find today may differ, so check what a currently sold copy includes before you pay.
What is new in WWE 2K25
2K developed the game with Visual Concepts and announced it on January 28, 2025, with a March 2025 launch on PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, and PC via Steam. The Switch 2 edition followed on July 23, 2025. The headline additions are:

2K advertises more than 300 Superstars, Legends, and Hall of Famers. That is a launch-era figure from 2K’s 2025 materials, and PlayStation’s product page uses the same count. Not every character is available in every mode or edition, so check the roster for the mode you care about.
Modes worth your time
2K Showcase: The Bloodline’s Dynasty
Paul Heyman hosts this showcase, which traces the Bloodline and the wider Anoa’i, Fatu, and Maivia families. You relive historic showdowns, change selected outcomes, and play fantasy matchups. It is the mode that most clearly justifies the game’s place as a history-driven product, and TechRadar’s Switch 2 reviewer singled it out as one of the complete experiences worth focusing on.

MyRISE
MyRISE lets you create a custom Superstar from either the men’s or women’s division, and both can share one multi-gender storyline. The plot has Bayley, Kevin Owens, and other Superstars trying to infiltrate NXT and take control of WWE. Your personality choices lead to different storylines, and 2K also describes ally storylines and unlockables. The cited materials describe these as official feature claims, not as a tested assessment of how well the branching works.
MyGM
MyGM runs multi-week seasons and cross-brand premium live events. 2K describes online multiplayer for up to four players. Treat that as the publisher’s feature description; the sources available for this review do not establish how matchmaking performs in practice.

MyFACTION
MyFACTION adds expanded Faction Wars, a World Tour mode, online match support, community events, and seasonal card-pack content. Its official feature page states that it requires internet access, so it is not an offline mode.
Matches and combat changes
The new match types and combat additions are the biggest gameplay changes. Official materials confirm they are in the game, but they do not establish how the systems feel or whether they are balanced, so judge them by the mode you play most.

The Island and where it runs
The Island is an online WWE-themed world with districts, quests, challenges, live events, unlockables, character customization, and story chapters. It is the single biggest platform decision, because it is not available on every version of the game. The table below uses the platforms named in 2K’s support FAQ and its later Switch 2 announcement.

Playing on Switch 2
2K says the Switch 2 version supports the full set of modes and match types. Offline modes work on the go, while online modes require an internet connection. The Island is also supported there.
TechRadar’s reviewer praised the handheld experience and found the portable version compelling. The same review flagged a graphics trade-off: the visuals do not match other consoles, and weaker textures are more noticeable in docked mode. If you plan to play mostly on a TV, the console versions give you the better picture. If you value the portability, the Switch 2 version is a legitimate choice rather than a compromise you have to apologize for.

What critics said
IGN’s March 17, 2025 PS5 review description says: “A couple of microtransaction-fueled missteps aside, WWE 2K25 is really the best wrestling game since… WWE 2K24, which was also pretty great.” It also describes the visuals positively and says the game offers a lot of content.
TechRadar’s review of the Switch 2 edition says: “WWE 2K25 is the best wrestling game I’ve played in years, and despite some game modes being cash grabs, you can opt to focus on the complete experiences, such as 2K Showcase, MyRise, and Universe mode.” That assessment is limited to the Switch 2 version. The sources available here include detailed review evidence for that edition and only a review description for the PS5 version.

The $69.99 price is the Standard Edition price that 2K announced for console and PC versions at launch. It is not a current price, and I did not verify live pricing, stock, or retailer contents. Edition contents and DLC have changed over time, so confirm what a currently sold edition includes.
Connectivity matters before you buy. Some content requires internet access, and online features require an account. In practice, MyFACTION and The Island need a connection, and the Switch 2 version’s online modes need one as well, while its offline modes work anywhere.
Who should buy WWE 2K25
- Buy it if you want a large, mode-heavy wrestling game and plan to spend time in MyRISE, MyGM, or the Bloodline showcase.
- Buy it for The Island only if you play on PS5, Xbox Series X|S, or Switch 2.
- Consider the Switch 2 version if you play mostly away from a TV and accept the graphics trade-off.
- Be cautious if you mainly want MyFACTION or other online-first modes, since they depend on a connection and some of the monetization is criticized even by positive reviewers.
If you only play on PS4, Xbox One, or PC, the cited sources do not give you The Island, so weigh the rest of the package on its own terms.
