WarMUX is a free-software, turn-based artillery game in which teams of free-software mascots battle across cartoon 2D maps. Players take turns moving, aiming and firing weapons such as dynamite, grenades, bats and bazookas. The project documents local play for two or more people on one PC; current online multiplayer operation is not established.
What is WarMUX?
WarMUX, formerly called Wormux, is a game in the Worms-like artillery genre. Instead of worms, its teams are mascots associated with free-software projects. The aim is to defeat the opposing team using weapons and the terrain on a 2D map. The Fedora Project Wiki lists examples including dynamite, grenades, baseball bats and bazookas.
The project README describes WarMUX as a game for two or more people sharing one PC. Its colorful presentation contrasts with the deliberately over-the-top combat; the README itself calls it a “pre-eminently a ‘convivial mass murder’ game.”
How do you play WarMUX?
Players take turns controlling characters on the map. The documented controls combine keyboard and mouse input:

Check the package manager or current package catalogue for your own operating system, release and processor architecture. A listing is evidence that a package is catalogued, not a guarantee that it is available for every system or that installation will succeed.

Can you play WarMUX online?
The project README documents local multiplayer on one PC, but the sources cited here do not verify that online servers or matchmaking currently work. If online play is essential, confirm that a service is active before choosing WarMUX; do not infer current online availability from historical references to multiplayer.

Is WarMUX still maintained?
A maintainer of a GitHub mirror describes the upstream project as dead and its old website as down. That is the mirror maintainer’s account; it does not establish the maintenance status of each package currently offered by an operating-system distributor. The Fedora page records GPL licensing, while FreeBSD Software records GPLv2+. Check the relevant license files for details about individual assets or components rather than assuming all parts share one license.
