Thick as Thieves was revealed in 2024 as a four-player PvPvE stealth game from Warren Spector’s OtherSide Entertainment. That reveal describes the original concept, not the current focus: publisher Megabit and storefront listings now present it as a stealth-action heist game for solo play or co-op with one partner.
What is Thick as Thieves?
Thick as Thieves is a stealth-action heist game set in Kilcairn, a fictional Scottish city in an alternate-history 1910s where magic and early technology collide. Players are members of the Thieves’ Guild, taking on heists that can reward observation, improvisation, gadgets, stealth, distraction, or subterfuge. Megabit describes the game as playable alone or with a partner in co-op multiplayer.
The initial release is presented by Megabit as an introduction to the game, with two playable thieves, two dynamic maps, 16 contracts, and six unique pieces of gear. Steam describes a four-hour campaign; that is the store’s stated length, not an independently measured completion-time estimate. Steam’s listing and Megabit’s press kit provide the current product descriptions.
Is it still a four-player PvPvE game?
Not according to the current release descriptions. The four-player PvPvE premise belongs to the original reveal at The Game Awards 2024. That concept described thieves infiltrating, stealing, and escaping while competing with rival thieves and avoiding guards in a city that could change between heists. Megabit’s later materials instead emphasize solo play and co-op with one partner. The original reveal remains useful context, but it should not be taken as the current description of the game’s focus.
#1 Best Overall
When the game was first announced, Warren Spector, identified by Megabit as OtherSide Entertainment co-founder, said: “Thick As Thieves captures the vision of immersive gameplay that OtherSide was founded on”.
Release date and platforms
Megabit announced a PC release for May 20, 2026, and Steam lists May 20, 2026 as the release date. The Xbox listing offers the game for Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S. The 2024 reveal also announced PlayStation 5, and a PlayStation Store concept page remains available; those facts alone do not establish a current PS5 release date or live purchase availability.
Rank #2
Platform features and online requirements differ. Steam lists single-player and online co-op. Xbox states that online multiplayer on console requires Game Pass Core or Ultimate, sold separately; that Xbox subscription condition should not be assumed to apply to other platforms.

Megabit’s release-date announcement also quoted game director Jeff Hickman: “Unveiling Thick as Thieves to the world feels like finally springing a long-planned heist. Every mechanic and choice has been made with intent—there is nothing accidental, nothing wasted. Players aren’t just stepping into a game; they’re joining our crew, cracking the lock, and pulling off the score we’ve been quietly building for years. Watching the world slip into this world of thieves and schemes is thrilling, and I can’t wait to see the clever chaos they create.”
