Digital Extremes’ March 25, 2026 announcement for The Shadowgrapher update reported 20 planets, four open worlds, more than 30 quests, and 64 base Warframes available at that point. These are the developer’s dated content counts, not a promise that every system or item will be accessible immediately. The announcement also reported more than 85 million registered players across major gaming platforms; that is a registered-player total, not an active-user count. The amount of content is a reason to stay if you enjoy long-term progression and a world that keeps expanding. It is also a real onboarding cost. If you prefer a tightly guided game with a short list of mechanics and a clear finish line, Warframe may feel like homework until you narrow your focus to the next mission or quest.
Is Warframe free, and what about purchases?
Warframe is free-to-play and digital; you do not need to buy a physical copy to start. Digital Extremes described The Shadowgrapher update as free across platforms. The game includes in-game purchases, but the available evidence does not quantify spending pressure or establish how much a typical player spends. Treat the free-to-play model as a reason to try it at no entry cost, not as proof that every optional purchase is necessary—or that the full monetization experience will suit everyone.

Platforms, cross-play, and cross-save
As of Digital Extremes’ March 25, 2026 announcement, Warframe was available on PC, PlayStation, Xbox, iOS, Android, Nintendo Switch, and Nintendo Switch 2. The publisher said the Switch 2 launch arrived alongside The Shadowgrapher update and described full cross-play and cross-save. Availability and features can vary by platform, so consult the current platform announcement and official cross-platform guide for the latest details.
Playing with friends on another platform
The official guide says cross-platform play supports missions, squads, public matchmaking, chat, and meeting in Relays and Dojos. It notes a Dojo squad issue and suggests a workaround: load into the Dojo first, then invite players on another platform. Cross-platform trading is supported under conditions, but Platinum cannot be traded between Nintendo Switch and other platforms. Taking your account and progress between platforms
Cross Platform Save works through account linking: choose a main account and link the platforms you use, following the steps in the official guide. Account linking is not the same as combining inventories. The limited Account Merging feature for eligible older accounts ended on January 17, 2025; returning players should not expect to merge separate inventories now. Warframe is available on iOS and Android, but mobile controls are worth considering before choosing it as your main platform. An App Store user review dated September 15, 2025 reported difficulty with the touch interface, and Digital Extremes replied that UI work was ongoing. A Bluetooth game controller may be an option if you prefer physical controls, but no particular controller or compatibility list is established here. Confirm support for your phone, operating system, and platform before buying one.
What do review scores say?
Older review scores describe particular versions of a game that has continued to change; they should not be presented as a 2026 consensus.
