In a February 2023 trailer for The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, Link rides a vehicle and then appears on a large airborne moving platform. Calling it a “hoverboard” is a visual comparison—not a confirmed name or description of how the vehicle works.
What is the hoverboard in Zelda?
It is the name some viewers might use for the airborne platform shown in the trailer; the footage does not establish that it is literally a hoverboard or explain how Link gets or controls it. HotHardware’s February 9, 2023 trailer report describes the platform as controllable and moving through the air, while treating “hoverboard-like” as a comparison based on its appearance.
What happens in the Tears of the Kingdom trailer?
The Nintendo Direct trailer mixes puzzle-solving, combat, weapons, a boss fight and cutscenes with shots of transport. At about 1:38, Link is shown driving a land vehicle; shortly afterward, he appears riding the large airborne platform. The trailer also shows Link on a horse. These are distinct glimpses of travel, not an explanation of the platform’s construction or complete gameplay role.
Could Link build or obtain the platform?
The trailer report did not confirm whether the vehicle-like craft could be built by the player, supplied to Link, or restricted to particular missions or dungeons. A commenter speculated about players building vehicles using the physics of the earlier game, but that remark is not an official explanation or verified mechanic. The footage alone leaves the platform’s inspiration and precise role unsettled.
