Rescuing operatives expands the playable cast and the lives available, while multiple routes and endings give repeat runs a reason to differ.
What kind of game is Weapon of Choice DX?
It is a side-scrolling, single-player run-and-gun set during an alien invasion. The premise features the Solus Operatives fighting gene-combining creatures; the presentation pairs hand-drawn art with a heavy-metal guitar soundtrack. Steam categorizes the Windows listing as Action and Indie.
The defining variation comes from the operatives. Each has a signature weapon and abilities, and characters can fire primary and alternative attacks. The official descriptions give examples such as jet-engine guns, plasma-saws, and limpet grenades. These are character-specific options, rather than a single weapon loadout that defines every run.

Choose branches and pursue different endings
Stages include branching decisions, and the game advertises different storylines and multiple distinct endings. Route choices therefore contribute to replay value alongside trying other operatives and their weapons.
Recover from danger with special tools
The store descriptions name a near-danger escape mechanic, “Death Brushing.” They also describe the Vengeance Missile, which can be used after an operative goes down, and the automated Spiderpack, which can climb walls and attack from different positions. These mechanics temper failure with recovery and positional tools; they do not make the game multiplayer or remove its run-and-gun challenge.

What does the DX edition add?
The Nintendo and PlayStation descriptions call out presentation and difficulty options: hand-painted art at 4K and 60 frames per second, plus six difficulty settings. Nintendo also notes rebalancing and achievements. The Xbox listing likewise identifies 4K Ultra HD and achievements. These are storefront descriptions of the console editions; they do not establish that every platform has identical feature support or presentation.
Is Weapon of Choice DX single-player?
Yes. Nintendo, Steam, Xbox, and PlayStation list it as a one-player game. Steam additionally lists full controller support and Xbox controller support. On Switch, the game supports TV, tabletop, and handheld play, and Nintendo lists the Pro Controller as compatible. A separate controller is optional; the Switch game listing is for a digital download.

Who is likely to enjoy it?
Its official feature set points to players who value character-specific weapons, route choices, and replaying stages for different outcomes. If you prefer a more punishing run-and-gun, the rescue-driven extra lives and named recovery tools are worth considering: they make survivability part of the design rather than presenting every failure as a hard reset. That is a comparison of described mechanics, not a measured difficulty ranking.
Choose a platform based on where you want to play and which listed controller or console features matter to you. Current prices and sale status are not fixed by the game’s feature listings, so check the relevant store before buying.
