There is no universally best Bloodborne weapon: choose for your character’s stats and the role you want it to fill. Compare minimum requirements and scaling, then pair weapons with different strengths—such as a quick close-range option and a slower weapon with more reach.
What are the best weapons in Bloodborne?
The best choice is the one that fits your build and how you fight, not simply the weapon with the biggest listed damage. The Bloodborne Wiki weapons reference organizes weapons by requirements, damage, scaling, availability, and notes—use those details to compare candidates.

It recommends equipping two primary weapons that match your stats and complement each other. A fast close-range weapon and a slower, longer-reaching one can cover different situations. This is a role-based pairing, not a ranking: the right combination depends on your character and preferences.
Which Bloodborne weapon should I use for my build?
Check requirements before investing
Compare a weapon’s minimum Strength, Skill, Bloodtinge, and Arcane requirements with your character’s current stats. A weapon whose requirements you do not meet is a poor fit for your immediate build. If several candidates qualify, look at their scaling to see which aligns with the stats you have developed.

Match the weapon to its combat role
Think about speed and reach as well as damage. Consider whether you want a quick option for close-range exchanges or a slower weapon that reaches farther, and choose a second primary weapon that supplies a different role. The available reference identifies damage and weapon notes as comparison data, but it does not establish a single best option for every build.
Keep firearms in their separate role
Primary weapons and firearms are different equipment categories. You can equip two primary weapons and swap which one is active; left-hand equipment is chosen and swapped separately. The Bloodborne Wiki firearms reference describes guns as generally reliable ranged attacks and notes that most scale with Bloodtinge, while some use Arcane. Consider the firearm’s stat fit and ranged role alongside your primary-weapon choices, rather than treating it as one of the two primary weapon slots.

What do Bloodborne weapon stats and scaling mean?
Requirements are the entry check
Minimum stat requirements tell you what character stats a weapon calls for. Check Strength, Skill, Bloodtinge, and Arcane requirements against your build before deciding whether to equip or invest in a weapon.
Scaling connects damage to your build
Scaling indicates how a weapon’s damage relates to character stats. Use it to compare weapons that meet your requirements: a weapon’s fit depends not just on its listed damage, but also on whether its scaling complements the stats you have invested in. The weapons reference includes scaling as a core data point, but the available information does not provide a complete weapon-by-weapon ranking here.

How do upgrades and Blood Gems affect weapon choice?
Fortification takes weapons to +10
At the Hunter’s Dream Workshop, weapons are fortified using Blood Echoes and Blood Stone materials. The Bloodborne Wiki upgrade guide lists the material tiers this way:

Because fortification requires materials and Blood Echoes, factor upgrade investment into your decision: a weapon you intend to keep using may be a more worthwhile target than one that does not fit your build or preferred role.

Slots and shapes determine gem compatibility
Blood Gems can strengthen a weapon or add special characteristics. The upgrade guide says most weapons have three gem slots; upgrades unlock slots, and a gem’s shape must match a compatible slot. Gems can be transferred between weapons. You need the workshop tool to attach them, so gem effects are part of a weapon’s investment and compatibility—not a reason to assume every gem fits every weapon.

- Filter by requirements: Check each candidate’s minimum Strength, Skill, Bloodtinge, and Arcane against your character’s stats.
- Compare scaling: Prefer a weapon whose scaling fits the stats you have developed.
- Choose distinct roles: For the two primary slots, consider whether speed, reach, or another documented weapon note gives each option a different job.
- Account for investment: Check the fortification tier and compatible gem slots before spending materials and Blood Echoes.
- Choose a firearm separately: Match left-hand equipment to your ranged needs and its Bloodtinge or Arcane scaling, where applicable.
Platform and reference status
Sony’s official Bloodborne product page identifies the game as a PS4 action role-playing game released March 24, 2015, and says it is playable on PS5, though some PS4 features may be absent. The upgrade reference reports game version 1.09 and lists server maintenance on July 15, 2025; that is the page’s reported status, not an independent current server check.
