Look for Nightstar Sand after dark on sandy ground. The easiest route depends on your progress: Feybreak has the largest reported clusters, especially Scorched Ashland and Withered Seaside, while Twilight Dunes in the main-map desert is an alternative. The glowing surface spots are pickups—you collect them by interacting, not by mining.
Where are the best places to find Nightstar Sand?
Feybreak is the strongest choice if you can reach it and handle the area. PinDrop’s fan-made map, updated September 9, 2026, reports 271 mapped nodes across Feybreak and Twilight Dunes: 222 in Feybreak and 49 in Twilight Dunes. Those are map listings, not official Pocketpair statistics, and the counts can change as the map changes. PinDrop’s regional map and node counts can help narrow a search.

Feybreak: Scorched Ashland and Withered Seaside
Start in Scorched Ashland, PinDrop’s largest named cluster at 74 mapped nodes, or sweep Withered Seaside, listed at 60. Other Feybreak locations named by guides include Sandstone Gate Islet, Deserted Ash Plateau, Loess Plains and Feybreak Shipwreck. Search the sandy ground and coastline after dark rather than relying on one exact coordinate; deposits are surface pickups. AllThingsHow’s location guide also identifies several Feybreak areas.
Main-map alternative: Twilight Dunes
If Feybreak is out of reach or too difficult for your current level, search the Dessicated Desert, also referred to in guides as Twilight Dunes. PinDrop lists Duneshelter (21 mapped nodes) and Desiccated Dunes (15). PC Gamer suggests fast-travelling to Searing Dunes Watchtower, looking north and gliding toward the deposits; other guides point to the PIDF Tower entrance or the Paladius boss area. Treat these as route landmarks, not guaranteed spawn coordinates. PC Gamer’s route advice describes the watchtower approach.

When and how do you collect it?
- Go out after dark. Nightstar Sand appears as a faint glowing spot on sandy terrain. The light makes deposits easier to see at night; PC Gamer notes glows can begin around sunset and that daytime pickups may be possible but easy to miss.
- Scan the ground as you travel. Check desert sand and sandy shores, including the edges of your route. The community Palworld Wiki entry describes it as a desert-at-night material.
- Walk up and interact with the glow. It is a surface pickup, not a mineable ore node. You do not need a Metal Detector to collect Nightstar Sand.
PinDrop classifies the pickup spots as respawning after 20 minutes. If you want to revisit a patch, give it time before checking it again. Nightstar Sand is not sold by merchants, according to the community wiki.
Can you get Nightstar Sand from Pals?
Guides also report drops from Starryon Primo in the World Tree region; PinDrop lists Wistella as another source and reports 1–2 sand per kill at a 100% rate for each. These are third-party game-data listings, so check current in-game information if you are planning around drops. For gathering a larger amount, world pickups are the more direct method described by the guides.

What is Nightstar Sand used for?
It goes into movement gear and other advanced equipment, including jump and air-dash boots, the Anti-Gravity Belt, Air Walker variants, the Advanced Bow, Beam Sword and Metal Detector. PinDrop’s 1.0 recipe list, which it says is quoted from PalDB because its own catalogue predates newer recipes, gives these amounts:

Recipe amounts can vary by item and may change with updates. Check the current in-game recipe before setting out to farm a specific total. The Metal Detector itself uses Nightstar Sand and helps locate Chromite; it is not required to spot or pick up Nightstar Sand.
