That pairing is reported in the indexed abstract of a 2024 academic paper; Epic’s official pages reviewed here do not independently confirm the full 2024 setup. Epic’s later public descriptions name EAC, but do not establish whether BattlEye is still active.
What anti-cheat did Fortnite use in 2024?
A 2024 academic paper, Anti-Cheat: Attacks and the Effectiveness of Client-Side Defences, identifies Fortnite as using Easy Anti-Cheat and BattlEye. The paper’s indexed abstract is the source for that historical pairing; its full text was not available for review here. So the careful answer is that Fortnite was reported to use both in 2024, rather than claiming Epic officially confirmed that configuration.
These are anti-cheat software systems used to detect or deter cheating. The available evidence does not support a comparison of their performance, privacy impact, or effectiveness in Fortnite.
What does Epic say about Fortnite’s anti-cheat now?
Epic’s later descriptions identify Easy Anti-Cheat as part of its approach, alongside measures beyond a single program. In its February 2025 update, Epic said it works to prevent exploits, make game code harder to analyze, and use statistical analysis and machine-learning algorithms to examine suspicious activity. It said bans are based on technical evidence, not suspicion, and encouraged players to report cheating in-game. Read Epic’s February 27, 2025 anti-cheat update.

In February 2026, Epic described EAC’s kernel-level protection as guarding the game while it runs, and also cited exploit fixes, code hardening, data analysis, machine learning, and player reports. This later description is not proof that Fortnite’s 2024 configuration was identical, nor does it settle whether BattlEye remains part of the current deployment. Do you need to install Easy Anti-Cheat to play Fortnite on Windows?
Yes. Epic Support says Easy Anti-Cheat is required to play Fortnite on Windows 10 and Windows 11. Normally, close the EAC launcher, start Fortnite, and accept the Windows installation prompt. If the prompt does not appear, Epic provides a manual installation procedure using Fortnite’s EasyAntiCheat_EOS files and the Epic Games Launcher. Use the official installation instructions for the current file paths and steps, which can change.

| When | Requirement described by Epic | Scope |
|---|---|---|
| From February 27, 2025 | TPM and Secure Boot | Windows PC players in certain tournaments, including FNCS events with an Account Level 350 eligibility threshold. This was the rule described in Epic’s February 27, 2025 update. |
| From February 19, 2026 | Secure Boot, TPM, and IOMMU | PC players entering all tournaments, according to Epic’s February 10, 2026 article. |
Epic said in 2026 that IOMMU helps control how hardware devices access system memory, with the goal of better protecting game memory from cheat hardware. It estimated that about 95% of Fortnite PC players use Windows 11-compatible systems and said those players likely already meet the tournament requirements or can enable them without new hardware. That percentage is Epic’s estimate, not an independently verified measurement. These later competition rules should not be treated as requirements for ordinary play or as 2024 rules.
