PUBG lets players switch from TPP to FPP, but not from FPP to TPP; the listed PC control is V, though bindings can vary by platform and updates.
What do TPP and FPP mean?
- TPP (Third Person Perspective): The camera shows your character from behind, with the whole character visible. PUBG Support describes it as playing “from behind the character allowing you to see the whole character.”
- FPP (First Person Perspective): The view is through your character’s eyes. PUBG Support defines it as “Playing in the eyes of the character.”
These terms describe the camera perspective, not a different character or weapon. The viewpoints show different information, but the definitions alone do not establish that one mode is easier, more competitive, or objectively better.
Can you switch between TPP and FPP?
According to PUBG Support’s perspective guide, you can switch to first person while playing in TPP mode, but you cannot switch to third person while in FPP mode. The guide lists V as the control. Since that guidance gives a PC-style key and controls may differ by platform or change with updates, check your current key bindings or control settings in the game.
How can you tell which perspective a mode uses?
PUBG’s API documentation uses mode labels that distinguish the perspective: solo, duo, and squad are third-person labels, while solo-fpp, duo-fpp, and squad-fpp are first-person labels. These are API labels, not a guarantee that every queue is currently available. Check the in-game mode selection for your platform and region.

Availability can also depend on the specific mode and update. For example, PUBG’s 25.1 patch notes, dated August 2, 2023, recorded FPP being added and TPP removed from live Intense Battle Royale matches at that time, with TPP retained in Custom Matches. That was a historical change to that mode, not a current list of all PUBG queues.
Which is better: TPP or FPP?
There is no universal answer established by the available evidence. TPP keeps your character visible from behind; FPP places the view at the character’s eyes. Choose based on which viewpoint you prefer, and check the queue’s perspective label before starting a match. The camera difference is clear, but it does not by itself prove a general advantage or higher skill ceiling for either mode.

Does PUBG esports use TPP or FPP?
Competitive perspective can change over time. In a roadmap published December 18, 2025, PUBG Esports announced that its 2026 season would transition to TPP. PUBG Esports said the professional scene had been built around FPP and presented the change as a way to bring competitive viewing closer to the experience many players have in-game. That is the organizer’s stated rationale, not an independently measured comparison of the modes.

Yes. PUBG’s Prop Hunt announcement assigned FPP to Hunters and TPP to Props. Its service window ran from March 31 through April 8, 2026 UTC, and has ended; it is an example of role-specific perspectives, not an indication that the event is playable now.
