The currency is used in the Animus Hub Exchange; Castle Keys open storerooms inside castles. If you want more of the currency, a 2025 guide lists floating cube collectibles and Anomalies as ways to earn it.
What Animus Hub Keys are for
Ubisoft lists Keys as one of the game’s three in-game currency types, alongside Mon and Helix Credits. PowerPyx’s March 2025 guide says Keys can be exchanged for equipment in the Animus Hub Exchange. That makes them distinct from Castle Keys, which are used locally in castle areas, and from Helix Credits, which the guide describes as a separate premium currency.

Ubisoft’s June 16, 2026 final-update article confirms that Animus Hub Projects remain part of the game, but it does not specify current Key rewards or earning rules.
How to get more Animus Hub Keys
Collect the floating cubes
PowerPyx’s March 18, 2025 guide describes small white floating cubes scattered around the world as collectibles that award Keys. It lists 44 collectible locations across Izumi Settsu, Harima, Yamashiro, Omi, Iga, Yamato, Kii, Tamba, and Wakasa. That is the guide’s documented count, not a current official total.

The guide says the collectibles do not appear like ordinary question-mark map markers. A white icon may appear when you get close, and a collectible may show on the fully zoomed-in map if you have visited the area. It also says these collectibles remain available in free roam after the story.
Complete Anomalies
The same guide says Anomalies become available during Act 2, appear in the Objectives screen, and award Keys. It reports that Anomalies refresh after a few real-world days, making the collectibles an alternative source while waiting. Treat that timing as guide-era information: Ubisoft’s later update confirms Animus Hub Projects continue, but does not verify the Anomaly refresh interval or current Key payouts.

Castle Keys are a separate item
A Castle Key is not Animus Hub currency. Game8’s guide result says Castle Keys open storerooms in castles. If you have a Castle Key, use it for that local access; it is not a balance to spend in the Animus Hub Exchange.

Ubisoft’s June 16, 2026 update discusses two new cross-title Animus Hub Projects, describing Projects as challenges across Shadows and Black Flag Resynced. It does not restate the Keys collectible count, Key rewards, or Anomaly schedule. The detailed route and location information above therefore reflects PowerPyx’s March 2025 guide, rather than a current Ubisoft farming specification.
