HAC-001 is the model number for the standard Nintendo Switch console. The revised standard model is marked HAC-001(-01). To tell them apart, check the model number on the console’s back or compare its serial-number prefix: Nintendo associates XAW with HAC-001 and XKW with HAC-001(-01).
Where to find the HAC-001 model number
Turn the console over and check its rear label; Nintendo identifies the model number there. The marking tells you whether the standard Switch is the original HAC-001 or the revised HAC-001(-01). Nintendo’s model-identification guidance is at Nintendo Support.
HAC-001 vs. HAC-001(-01): what is different?
The two markings identify different versions of the standard Switch. Nintendo’s serial-prefix guide associates the original HAC-001 with serial numbers beginning XAW and the revision HAC-001(-01) with serial numbers beginning XKW. Treat the prefix as a second identification clue alongside the rear label, not as a measure of the console’s current condition.
| Model marking | Nintendo serial prefix | Approximate battery duration |
|---|---|---|
| HAC-001, original standard Switch | XAW | About 2.5–6.5 hours |
| HAC-001(-01), revised standard Switch | XKW | About 4.5–9 hours |
These are Nintendo’s approximate ranges; actual duration varies with the software and features being used. The figures distinguish Nintendo’s estimates for the two models, not the battery health of a particular console. See Nintendo’s model and battery guidance.

Does HAC-001 mean Switch Lite or Switch OLED?
No. HAC-001 identifies the standard Nintendo Switch, not the Lite or OLED models. Nintendo lists Switch Lite as HDH-001 and Switch OLED as HEG-001. If a listing calls a console “HAC-001,” verify the marking on the actual unit rather than assuming the title is accurate.
What to check when buying a used HAC-001
- Ask for a clear photo of the back label and confirm the model marking.
- Check the serial-number prefix: XAW corresponds to HAC-001, while XKW corresponds to HAC-001(-01) in Nintendo’s identification guide.
- Test battery life if possible. The model code does not show how much capacity remains in an older or heavily used battery.
Nintendo says that after about 800 charge cycles, battery duration falls to about 80% of that of a new console, and describes this as normal. This is approximate guidance, not a diagnostic result for an individual device. The model label and prefix also do not verify the authenticity, condition, or seller claims for a marketplace listing.
