Race V4, also called Race Awakening, temporarily transforms your character into a stronger combat state. You build an awakening meter by fighting, activate the transformation when it is full, and use race-specific abilities shaped by the gears you have unlocked. The exact effects depend on your race and gear choices.
What Race V4 changes
Race V4 is an upgrade to Race V3, not a permanent transformation. While awakened, your character gains extra boosts and access to abilities associated with that race. When the transformation ends, you return to your normal state.
The Race Awakening community wiki says the meter fills through combat and that damage to players fills it more effectively than damage to NPCs or bosses. It identifies the Y key as an activation input, but controls can vary by platform or change with game updates; check your current in-game controls. The mechanics are described on the Race Awakening wiki page, not in official developer documentation.

The guide also says that only one ability can be upgraded to tier two at a time. Its broad classification is that blue gears tend to provide active abilities, while red gears tend to offer mobility moves or passive buffs; this is a general pattern, not a rule that applies to every gear. Race-specific powers
Each race has its own ability set, so V4 is not one identical power shared by every player. The wiki lists these examples:

- Shark: Whirlpool and Leviathan Armor.
- Rabbit: Whirlwind and Lightning Cloak.
- Angel: King’s Rule and Prince of the Skies.
- Ghoul: Domain Expansion and Blood Siphon.
- Cyborg: Aftershock and Energy Control.
- Draco: Cometic Field and Thorn Mail.
These names help identify the abilities, but damage, duration, defense, and other numerical effects can change as the game is updated. The community wiki is useful for orientation, not a guarantee that a listed value is current.
How to think about a V4 build
Choose gears around what you want your character to do rather than assuming one race or setup is best for everyone. When comparing options, consider:

- Whether the gear is an active ability or a passive or movement effect.
- Whether it supports offense, defense, mobility, or allies.
- How and when it triggers, and whether that suits your PvP or PvE play.
- Which ability you want to invest in for a tier-two upgrade, since the guide says only one can be upgraded at once.
Because ability behavior and balance can change, check the current in-game description before committing to a build or relying on a specific effect.
How Race V4 fits into progression
For most races, unlocking V4 is a Third Sea progression path that builds on Race V3 and puzzle progress. The community puzzle guide describes a route involving the Sealed King quest, a Mirror Fractal, Mirage Island, a Blue Gear, and coordinated trials. It says trials require at least three players of different races who are V3 or higher, followed by race trials and a final player battle. Further trials and training are needed for later upgrades. These are community-wiki instructions rather than official developer documentation, so check the live game for current requirements. The guide is at Temple of Time.

The same guide says that a full moon is no longer required to resonate on Mirage Island, although it still requires nighttime, and that the Blue Gear and Mirror Fractal are needed only once per account. These conditions may change with game updates.
Draco is an exception
Draco follows a separate route in the guide, including Draco V3 and additional objectives. Do not assume the general race checklist applies to Draco.

When Race V4 was introduced
The Blox Fruits Wiki’s Update 18 page identifies January 6, 2023 as the update’s release date and describes it as the update that added the final-stage Race Awakenings. This is a historical date; it does not establish that every current effect or unlock requirement remains unchanged.
