For Buddha-focused grinding, a fighting style is the straightforward default if you’re investing in Melee. Buddha’s transformation benefits the basic attacks of both fighting styles and swords, so a sword is still a viable choice—especially if you prefer its moves or plan to specialize in Sword. There is no established universal winner for every activity, and current PvP damage rankings aren’t supported by a controlled comparison.
Why a fighting style is a practical default for grinding
Buddha is commonly used for grinding, and the relevant stat pairing is simple: Melee raises fighting-style damage and energy. That makes a fighting style a natural primary damage source for a Buddha build centered on Melee. Does Buddha favor swords or fighting styles?
The documented Buddha transformation increases the size and area of effect of M1 basic attacks for both fighting styles and swords. That mechanic supports either category; it does not mean Buddha exclusively favors one. How the stats affect the choice

For PvE grinding
Start with Melee and a fighting style if you want a straightforward Buddha grinding setup. Put enough into Defense to survive the content you are tackling. You can still carry a sword for its abilities or other utility without making it your main damage source.
