His protection depends on the game, the ability he is using and the threat in question. In Kirby: Mouse Attack, for example, Metal makes him invulnerable to enemy attacks in ordinary situations—but Nintendo’s developer interview says bosses can still damage him. Other abilities interact with specific hazards without making Kirby generally immune to them.
What Kirby can resist depends on the game
Official descriptions and manuals explain mechanics for particular games; they do not establish a rule that Kirby is immune to the same threats throughout the series. To assess a claim, identify the game, the active ability and the type of threat—such as a regular enemy attack, a boss attack or an environmental hazard.
What Metal Kirby can withstand
Kirby: Mouse Attack (called Kirby: Squeak Squad in North America)
Nintendo developer Tatsuya Kakuta described Metal as an ability “which makes Kirby invulnerable to enemy attacks” in a 2007 interview about Kirby: Mouse Attack. That protection has an important limit: Kakuta also warned that Kirby can suffer damage during boss battles while using Metal, and that his attacks may be less effective there. So “invulnerable” in this description does not mean invulnerable to every attack in every encounter.
Kirby: Squeak Squad
The official Kirby: Squeak Squad instruction booklet calls Metal Kirby “virtually indestructible.” The same booklet explains that Kirby’s life gauge decreases when he touches an enemy or is hit by an enemy attack, and that taking damage makes his Copy Ability float away as a star. The booklet supports unusually strong protection from Metal, not a claim that ordinary Kirby—or Metal Kirby in every circumstance—is immune to all harm.

Hazard interactions are not general immunity
The Mouse Attack interview gives two examples of abilities affecting hazards: Ice can freeze lava, and Ninja can walk on water. These are specific ability interactions in that game. Freezing lava does not establish that Kirby is naturally immune to lava, and walking on water does not establish that Kirby is immune to water or every water-related danger.

In Kirby and the Forgotten Land, Nintendo describes Kirby inhaling certain enemies to copy abilities—including Sword, Ice, Drill and Ranger—and inhaling objects for Mouthful Mode transformations. Its game page presents those abilities and transformations, not a universal immunity. Nintendo’s gameplay tips teach players to dodge enemy attacks using crouch guard and a somersault, another reason not to treat Kirby as generally immune to attacks in this title.

The useful distinction is between protection, hazard interaction and evasion: Metal provides unusually strong protection in the cited games; Ice and Ninja can interact with particular hazards in Mouse Attack; and dodging helps Kirby avoid attacks in Forgotten Land. None of those examples creates a series-wide immunity list.
