In team-based Multiplayer, factions generally correspond to teams; an Operator is the character you play for your assigned side. KorTac is a faction, not an individual Operator. Activision’s MWIII glossary defines a faction as the group an Operator belongs to.
What does KorTac mean in MWIII?
KorTac is the name of a fictional Operator faction in MWIII. The official glossary also identifies SpecGru as a primary faction and notes that the game has more factions beyond those two. The distinction matters most in team-based Multiplayer, where primary factions typically serve as the teams and the Operator you select within your assigned faction is the character you play.

That makes KorTac a group label, not a playable character or a game mode. An Operator belongs to a faction; the faction and the individual Operator are different things.
Which Operators are KorTac?
Activision’s November 30, 2023 Season 1 announcement identified Nolan and Dokkaebi as KorTac Operators. Those are examples from the announcement, not a guarantee of the current live-game roster: the character descriptions were published in a dated Season 1 context.

Dokkaebi
The announcement gives Dokkaebi’s given name as Ari and describes her as born in South Korea to a family of engineers. Its fictional biography says she found the global Kortac Faction through South Korean military contacts while evading North Korean agents. The January 30, 2024 Season 1 patch notes repeat that KorTac designation.
Nolan
The same Season 1 announcement identifies Captain Andrei Nolan as a KorTac Operator and describes him as recently made Vladimir Makarov’s right-hand man. These are fictional character details from the game’s official material, not real-world claims.

What does “KorTac” stand for?
The official MWIII glossary and the cited Operator announcements use KorTac as a proper name but do not provide an acronym expansion or etymology. Without an official explanation, any proposed expansion should be treated as speculation rather than established Call of Duty canon.

The definition here is specific to MWIII. Activision’s glossary explains how primary factions typically function in that game’s team-based Multiplayer; it does not establish that KorTac is the opposing side in every mode or every Call of Duty title. When you see KorTac in an MWIII Operator menu or match context, read it as the Operator’s faction designation.
