Greek mythology does not establish a single canonical physical weak spot for Poseidon. The stories instead show limits of a different kind: he can be angered, challenged, and opposed by other gods. That distinction matters if you are looking for a fixed vulnerability rather than a weakness invented for a particular modern retelling or game.
Does Poseidon have a physical weak spot?
Not one established in the classical accounts covered here. They describe Poseidon as a powerful god and recount his conflicts, but do not give him an Achilles-style vulnerable body part or a single fatal flaw. It is more accurate to say that these sources do not identify a canonical weak point than to claim that no later story has ever invented one.
Poseidon is associated with the sea, earthquakes, floods, drought, and horses. His trident embodies divine power in myth: accounts attribute to it the ability to stir storms, split rocks, and cause earthquakes. These are mythic attributes, not evidence that water is a necessary source of his strength or that a particular weapon can kill him. Theoi’s account of Poseidon summarizes these roles and attributes.
What limits Poseidon in the myths?
His anger can drive his actions
In the Odyssey, Odysseus blinds Polyphemus, Poseidon’s son. Poseidon retaliates by sending storms against Odysseus and his fleet, making the journey perilous. The episode portrays a god with immense power and a motive for using it—not a god with a bodily vulnerability. Theoi’s summary recounts the episode.

Other gods can constrain the outcome
Poseidon’s power does not mean that he controls every outcome. The 1911 Encyclopaedia Britannica entry on Poseidon says that the united influence of the other gods protects Odysseus from Poseidon’s wrath. This is a narrative limit arising from competing divine influence, not a weakness in Poseidon’s body. Read the Britannica entry on Wikisource.
Is Poseidon’s weakness like Achilles’ heel?
No. Achilles is a hero, not Poseidon, and the familiar idea of an “Achilles’ heel” should not be transferred to the sea god. The British Museum notes that the Iliad does not mention Achilles’ invulnerability or a weakness in his heel. The heel story belongs to a different tradition, not to a weakness shared by Poseidon. The British Museum’s account of Achilles explains the distinction.

What should you make of Poseidon’s weakness in a game or retelling?
A game or modern adaptation may give Poseidon a specific vulnerability to make a story or battle work. Treat that as a rule of that version, not as a universal feature of Greek mythology. To assess a claim, check which retelling it comes from and whether it describes a physical weak point or a narrative constraint, such as another god’s intervention. In the classical accounts cited here, Poseidon has no single named fatal flaw.
