The maximum character level in Borderlands 4 is 70. Version 1.10 raised the cap by 10 levels on September 10, 2026, and the increase applies to all players—not only owners of a story pack.

How the level cap reached 70

The cap has increased since launch, so older guides may give a lower number. Borderlands Support documented a maximum level of 60 on March 26, 2026, and said that increase was free for all players, whether or not they owned Story Pack 1.

On August 21, 2026, 2K and Gearbox Software announced that Version 1.10 would raise the maximum by 10 levels. The update arrived September 10. Adding that announced increase to the previously documented cap of 60 gives the current maximum of 70. Borderlands Support’s March 26 update notes and 2K and Gearbox’s Version 1.10 announcement document the changes.

Do you need Story Pack 2 to reach level 70?

No. The Version 1.10 announcement says the 10-level increase applies to all Borderlands 4 players. Story Pack 2 and Bounty Pack 5 content arrived with the update, but owning Story Pack 2 is not a requirement for the level-cap increase.

Character level is different from endgame difficulty

Level 70 is the character-level cap. It is not a UVHM level or a measure of post-game difficulty progression. The official roadmap treats unlockable post-game difficulty levels and UVHM progression as separate systems. The official roadmap describes those systems separately from character level.

The reviewed official announcements do not establish how many skill points a character has at level 70, so a specific skill-point total should not be inferred from the cap alone.
