For a Faith-focused build, Blasphemous Blade is a strong broad recommendation for boss fights. If your character is built around Arcane and bleed, Rivers of Blood is a separate option—but it is not effective against every boss. Neither weapon is objectively best for every build or matchup.
Which weapon should you choose?
| Weapon | Best fit | Key requirements or limitation |
|---|---|---|
| Blasphemous Blade | Faith-oriented character seeking a boss-focused weapon | 22 Strength, 15 Dexterity, and 21 Faith, according to HowToPlayHub’s 2026 guide |
| Rivers of Blood | Arcane build that wants to use bleed against susceptible enemies | 12 Strength, 18 Dexterity, and 20 Arcane, according to the fan-made Elden Ring Wiki guide; some bosses cannot bleed |
HowToPlayHub labels Blasphemous Blade its “Best Faith Weapon & Boss Killer,” but that is the guide’s recommendation, not an official ranking or the result of a controlled head-to-head test. Its stated requirements also make the choice a meaningful Faith investment. HowToPlayHub’s Elden Ring weapon tier guide
When does Rivers of Blood make sense?
Rivers of Blood suits a character already investing in Arcane and Dexterity. The fan-made Elden Ring Wiki guide says Arcane increases this weapon’s bleed buildup, while Dexterity increases its weapon damage rather than its bleed rate. That distinction matters when allocating attributes: favor Arcane for bleed buildup and Dexterity for damage, within the needs of your build. Elden Ring Wiki’s Rivers of Blood guide
Bleed has matchup limits
Bleed is not a universal boss solution. The guide names Radagon and Elden Beast among bosses that cannot bleed, and recommends carrying a physical backup for such encounters. Do not choose Rivers of Blood on the assumption that every major enemy will be vulnerable to its status effect.
Reach, FP, and acquisition
The guide describes Rivers of Blood as having short reach and says its Corpse Piler skill consumes FP. Treat it as a close-range option, and keep an eye on your FP rather than relying on the skill continuously. The weapon is acquired from Bloody Finger Okina at the Church of Repose in the Mountaintops of the Giants, according to that guide.
How to decide for your character
- Check stat fit: choose around attributes your build can support. Blasphemous Blade asks for substantial Faith; Rivers of Blood asks for Arcane as well as Dexterity.
- Check the boss matchup: a bleed-focused weapon loses an important advantage against enemies that cannot bleed.
- Consider when you can obtain it: Rivers of Blood’s listed location is in the Mountaintops of the Giants, so it is not an early-game pickup.
- Account for combat range and resources: Rivers of Blood’s short reach and Corpse Piler’s FP use can affect how safely and often you can use its skill.
HowToPlayHub also names Bloodhound’s Fang as an early-game Strength/Dexterity option and Moonveil as an Intelligence option. Those are alternatives to consider if your attributes point elsewhere; the available guides do not establish a detailed, independently verified comparison between them and the two main choices.
Is Rivers of Blood still good after all the balance patches?
Bandai Namco’s official patch 1.07 notes, dated October 13, 2022, say Corpse Piler’s attack power was “slightly increased.” That documents a historical adjustment, not the current patch number or a present-day universal ranking. Bandai Namco’s official patch 1.07 notes
The Elden Ring Wiki’s Rivers of Blood guide is marked updated September 11, 2026, and notes that the game should be trusted where its figures disagree with it. HowToPlayHub’s guide is marked updated September 18, 2026, and claims to reflect patch 1.17; that patch claim is not confirmed by the official patch notes cited here. Treat both sites’ weapon assessments as guide recommendations, not official balance verdicts.

What is the best weapon in Elden Ring for beginners?
There is no single beginner weapon established as best for every character. Bloodhound’s Fang is one option named by HowToPlayHub for early-game Strength/Dexterity builds, but the right choice still depends on your attributes and what you can obtain. Blasphemous Blade and Rivers of Blood are more specific recommendations for Faith and Arcane-oriented builds, respectively.
