What Is the Difference Between Back 4 Blood Deluxe and Ultimate?

Deluxe and Ultimate both include the base game and Annual Pass. Ultimate adds the Battle Hardened Skin Pack and digital profile items, and nothing else.

The short answer: Back 4 Blood Deluxe and Ultimate both include the base game and the Annual Pass. Ultimate adds cosmetic extras, specifically the four-character Battle Hardened Skin Pack and a set of digital profile items. It does not add a second or stronger Annual Pass, and it does not unlock extra gameplay content. If you want the game and its planned expansions, Deluxe covers them. If you specifically want the Battle Hardened skins and the digital items, Ultimate is the only edition that includes them.

What each edition includes

Store listings describe the two editions in similar terms, so the comparison comes down to a small set of additions. The table below lists what official storefront descriptions say each edition contains.

Edition Base game Annual Pass Battle Hardened Skin Pack Digital items
Deluxe Included Included (described as three downloadable content drops) Not included Not included
Ultimate Included Included (same pass as Deluxe) Included (four characters) Included: Rare Banner, Emblem, Spray, Title

These entries reflect the wording on the Steam store page and the Xbox Store comparison as they read in the 2026 listings checked for this article. Store copy can change, so confirm the contents on the page of the platform you plan to buy from before you pay.

The Annual Pass is the same in both editions

The most common misunderstanding is that Ultimate buys you a better pass. It does not. Both editions include the same Annual Pass, which Steam describes as three upcoming downloadable content drops covering a new story, playable characters, special Mutated Ridden, and more. The Xbox Store names the three expansions that the pass covers as Tunnels of Terror, Children of the Worm, and River of Blood.

#1 Best Overall
Back 4 Blood - Xbox Series X
  • Fight your way through a perilous world In a 4-player co-op story campaign where you must work together to survive increasingly challenging missions
  • Choose from 8 customizable cleaners and a range of lethal weapons and items
  • Play with or against friends in PvP
  • A new Roguelike card system creates different experiences each and every time
  • A Xbox Live Gold membership is required to play Back 4 Blood on PlayStation or Xbox consoles.

In practical terms, a Deluxe buyer and an Ultimate buyer who play the same content will have access to the same missions, characters and expansion updates. The only things that differ are the cosmetic items described below.

What Ultimate adds

Battle Hardened Skin Pack

Ultimate includes a four-character Battle Hardened Skin Pack. Storefront copy describes it as a cosmetic pack for four characters; it is not described as a gameplay unlock, and it does not change character abilities.

Rank #2
Back 4 Blood (Xbox Series X)
  • Fight your way through a dynamic, perilous world in a 4-player co-op story campaign where you must work together to survive increasingly challenging missions. Play with up to 3 of your friends online or go solo and lead your team in battle.
  • play with or against friends in PvP. Become a cleaner with special perks or switch sides and play as the horrific ridden. Both sides come with unique weapons, abilities, and specialties.
  • a new "roguelike" Card system creates different experiences each and every time, putting you in control to craft Custom builds and undertake more demanding fights

Digital in-game items

Ultimate also includes a set of additional digital items: a Rare Banner, an Emblem, a Spray, and a Title. These are profile and presentation items. They are listed as in-game extras, and the storefront descriptions do not say they affect matchmaking, difficulty or progression.

Price and where to check it

Prices are the part of this comparison that changes most often. When Valve’s Steam listing for the US store was captured in 2026, it showed $89.99 for Deluxe and $99.99 for Ultimate. Those figures are a single snapshot of one region and one storefront, not a standing price, and they may be discounted or revised at any time.

Xbox Store pricing is sale-dependent, so the amount shown at checkout can differ from the list price you see on a product page. Compare the editions in the store you intend to play in, and check the price on the day you buy.

Platform availability

  • Xbox Store: the listing covers Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, PC, and Xbox Cloud Gaming. The Ultimate Digital Content add-on appears in the editions comparison there.
  • PlayStation: the official PlayStation page identifies versions for PS4 and PS5.
  • Steam: the Deluxe and Ultimate editions are listed as separate purchases, with the Annual Pass and expansions shown as store add-ons.

Edition contents, entitlements and prices can vary by platform and region. A purchase on one platform does not carry over to another, so buy the edition on the platform where you will actually play.

Early access: a launch offer, not a current benefit

You may still see references to early access in older coverage. Xbox Wire’s launch announcement dated October 7, 2021 listed four days of early access to Back 4 Blood as part of the Ultimate offer at that time. That was a launch promotion. Current store descriptions for Deluxe and Ultimate do not describe early access, so do not buy Ultimate expecting it.

Which edition to buy

  • Choose Deluxe if you want the base game and the Annual Pass and do not care about the Battle Hardened skins or the digital banner, emblem, spray and title.
  • Choose Ultimate if you want the four-character Battle Hardened Skin Pack and the digital profile items, and the price difference is worth it to you.
  • Do not choose Ultimate expecting extra expansions, a better pass or early access. Those are not part of the current listings.

Before you buy, check the live price on your platform, confirm whether the storefront lists any sale or bundle, and read the contents on that page once more.

All of this applies to the store listings as they stand in 2026, which is the most recent information available for this comparison. Product copy may be updated, so verify the contents directly if the purchase is more than a short time away.
