Roblox does not build one into the platform. When players mention a headless command, they mean a chat command that a specific experience (Roblox’s term for a game or world) has added to change its avatar’s appearance. Whether it works, what it is called, and who can use it all depend on that one experience.
What players mean by “headless command”
The phrase usually refers to a custom chat command written by an experience’s developer. Typing the command triggers a script that makes the player’s avatar look headless. The command belongs to the experience that implements it. It does not carry over to other games.
Experience listings show the phrasing in practice. Descriptions include lines such as “New Headless Command!” and “Use the /headless command.” Creators also advertise the alias as @headless. Because the wording varies, a listing that says “headless” tells you a feature exists in that experience, not what the exact syntax is.
Roblox’s built-in chat commands do not include it
Roblox’s Creator Hub documents a set of default chat commands that work in experiences. They cover clearing chat, opening the developer console, playing an emote, help, muting, team chat, unmuting, showing the chat version, and whispering. /headless is not on that list, so you should not expect it to work in an arbitrary game.

How the command is built
Roblox’s Creator Hub guide “Custom text chat commands” explains that developers can add their own commands with TextChatCommand. The steps for a developer are:
- Add a
TextChatCommandinsideTextChatService. - Set its
PrimaryAliasto the text players type, such as/headless. Optionally set aSecondaryAliasas a second spelling or shortcut. - Connect the command’s
Triggeredevent to a server script that performs the action.
Roblox’s own example uses /super and /mini to scale a character. It is an illustration of the mechanism, not a headless feature. Community developers have shown headless effects by changing the avatar description applied to a character’s Humanoid. That is a third-party example, not official platform guidance.

Developers building this themselves should handle permissions and character resets deliberately. The official guide describes the mechanism; it does not decide who may use a given command.
Why the syntax and access rules differ
Because each experience writes its own command, the details vary:

- Alias: Listings have advertised
/headlessand@headless. Some pair the command with a separate undo command to restore the normal avatar. - Access: Access rules are set by the experience. One older experience listing said the command required a VIP game pass. That rule applied to that listing and may no longer apply.
- Availability: Experiences are updated or retired. A command in a description may be removed without notice.
To find the working command, open the experience’s page and read its description and any in-game instructions. Those are the only reliable source for the current syntax and access rules.
Headless Horseman is a separate item
Roblox also lists a Headless Horseman avatar bundle in its catalog. That is an avatar item you can view or purchase, and it is not the same thing as a chat command. Owning the bundle does not give you /headless in other experiences, and a game’s headless command does not mean you own the bundle. Catalog ownership and price can change, so check the catalog listing directly for current status.

Two routes to a headless-looking avatar

If the command does not work
- Confirm the exact spelling in the experience’s current description. Try the alias shown there, not a guess.
- Check whether the experience needs an access item, such as a game pass, before the command responds.
- Look for a companion undo command if the avatar stays headless.
- If the experience has no instructions and no working command, it probably never implemented one or has since removed it.
Pricing for any specific command or bundle is not established here, so do not rely on a price quoted in a listing or forum post.
