For the main Borderlands looter-shooters and Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands, the highest character levels range from 40 to 80, depending on the game and its expansions. Borderlands 4 is capped at 60 in the March 2026 update; that figure may change in a later update.

Which caps depend on DLC?
Borderlands: 58 without Knoxx, 69 with it
The original game has two relevant ceilings. The 2010 update raised the level cap to 58 for all players, while The Secret Armory of General Knoxx lets players reach level 69. If you are comparing a no-expansion playthrough with the complete game, use 58 and 69 respectively.
Borderlands 2: 80 with Commander Lilith
The current maximum is 80 with Commander Lilith & the Fight for Sanctuary. The game had lower caps earlier in its life: a 2013 announcement raised the ceiling from 50 to 61, but that is not the current maximum. Source: 2K/Take-Two (2013).

At level 40, character levels stop increasing and Myth Rank becomes the next progression system. Keep the distinction clear: Myth Rank is not an extension of the character-level cap.

Borderlands 3: level and skill points are different totals
Level 72 is the character cap. 2K’s Crossplay Update announcement separately states a maximum of 70 Skill Points, so the skill-point total should not be treated as another level figure.
What “every Borderlands game” means here
This comparison covers the main Borderlands looter-shooters and the Wonderlands spin-off, which have comparable character-level progression. The narrative Tales from the Borderlands titles are not included as though they used the same level-cap system.

Why Borderlands 4’s cap may change
The level 60 figure is tied to the official March 26, 2026 update, not a permanent franchise-wide rule. Since updates can raise a cap, check the latest Borderlands Support update notes if you need the current figure after that date.
