The answer depends on what you mean by “the first Roblox.” The predecessor was Interactive Physics, a 2D physics simulation David Baszucki and Erik Cassel programmed in 1989. Roblox itself came later: the founders started it in 2004. Interactive Physics influenced Roblox, but it was not the Roblox platform.
What came before Roblox?
Roblox Corporation’s 2020 SEC-filed company history says its story began in 1989, when future founders David Baszucki and Erik Cassel programmed Interactive Physics, a 2D simulated physics lab. The filing says the project later influenced their approach to building the groundwork for Roblox. Roblox Corporation’s SEC-filed history
That makes Interactive Physics a technological predecessor and influence—not an early version of Roblox itself. It was a physics simulation, while Roblox was the later platform the founders went on to create.
When did Roblox start?
Roblox’s company information identifies Baszucki and Cassel as its founders and says the company was founded in 2004. Its SEC-filed history also says they started Roblox in 2004. Roblox Support’s company information · Roblox Corporation’s SEC-filed history

Was the first Roblox called DynaBlocks?
A community-edited Roblox Wiki page reports that DynaBlocks was one of several names considered during early development. That account does not establish that DynaBlocks was the definitive name of a released first version, and Roblox’s official sources cited here do not confirm the name. Roblox Wiki’s DynaBlocks page

Roblox says its earliest builders included developers, investors, testers, and friends of the founders, and that it is difficult to identify who the first player was.
