Far Cry Primal is the base game. The Digital Apex Edition contains that same game plus three Legend of the Mammoth missions, the Blood Shasti Club weapon, and four enhancement packs: Sabretooth, Owl, Mammoth, and Bomb. Ubisoft’s official descriptions do not present Apex as a different core game, so the real decision is whether you want the bundled extras.
What the Standard Edition is
Far Cry Primal Standard Edition is the base game. Ubisoft’s store listing describes it as a single-player action/adventure game and does not list any bundled extras. If you buy the standard edition, you get the campaign and nothing further from the Apex bundle.

What the Apex Edition adds
The Digital Apex Edition is the base game plus a set of digital extras. Ubisoft’s listing groups them into three categories: the mammoth missions, one additional weapon, and four enhancement packs. None of them is described as a separate campaign or a standalone release.
Legend of the Mammoth: three bonus missions
The headline addition is Legend of the Mammoth, a set of three extra missions in which you play as a mammoth. Ubisoft’s PC release announcement names these missions as one of the Apex extras. In a March 1, 2016 post titled “Far Cry Primal Out Now on PC,” Ubisoft News editor Mikel Reparaz wrote: “In addition to the standard edition, it’s also available as the Apex Edition, which comes with a bevy of extras, including three bonus missions in which you’ll play as a mammoth.”

Blood Shasti Club: an additional weapon
The Blood Shasti Club is listed as an in-game weapon included with Apex. Ubisoft’s listing does not describe its stats or how it is unlocked, so treat it as a bundled item and not as a gameplay change.
The four enhancement packs
Apex includes four packs. Ubisoft’s listing describes their benefits in general terms: early access to some crafting resources and customization options for animal companions. The table below shows what each pack is listed as offering.

Ubisoft’s original announcement set the console release for February 23, 2016 on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. Its PC announcement of March 1, 2016 presented the standard digital edition and Apex as separate digital purchase options.
A physical disc of the base game may also be available on the secondhand or retail market. Do not assume a physical copy includes the Apex extras; check the listing for the included content, platform, and region before buying.
