1. Check where you last saw Lydia—and where you told her to wait
Return to the last place you remember seeing Lydia and check any location where you may have used a wait command. Bethesda says a follower told to wait stays at that location, and recommends retracing your steps when a follower goes missing. See Bethesda Support’s missing-follower guidance.

2. Fast Travel to another location
After checking likely wait spots, Fast Travel to a different known location. Bethesda says a lost follower should reappear with you at the destination. This is the official general recovery step, but it is not a guarantee for every game state or mod setup.
3. If you dismissed Lydia, check her likely return location
A secondary Lydia guide says she returns to Breezehome if you own the house, or Dragonsreach if you do not. These are likely places to check, not destinations Bethesda confirms in its general missing-follower article. See CyberPost’s Lydia guidance.

4. On PC, consider console commands only as a last resort
CyberPost lists a PC console workaround: select Lydia with her reference ID, then move her to your character. Bethesda does not validate these commands, and they do not apply to PlayStation or Xbox.
- Make a separate save before changing the game state.
- Open the in-game console and enter
prid a2c94to select Lydia. - Enter
moveto playerto move her to your location.
These are community-sourced commands, not the default fix. Avoid using resurrect casually; the available guidance does not establish it as a safe recovery step.

5. If Lydia is still missing, gather the details before trying other fixes
The official support guidance covers basic recovery, not every version- or mod-specific case. Before attempting more invasive fixes, note:
- Your platform: PC, PlayStation, or Xbox.
- Your Skyrim edition and version.
- Whether you last told Lydia to wait or dismissed her, and where you last saw her.
- Whether you own Breezehome and whether another follower is active.
- Whether you use mods that affect followers.
Those details can help narrow down what to try next without assuming that a fix for one platform, version, or mod setup will work for another.
