There is no single best grading company for every Pokémon card. PSA is a reasonable starting point if broad brand recognition is your priority; CGC is worth comparing if its published tiers and grade designations suit your needs; and Beckett is an option only if its currently open submission route fits. Choose based on your card, budget, timing, and whether you plan to sell or keep it—not on a promise that one label will guarantee a higher price.
The prices and availability below are U.S. service snapshots checked on October 8, 2026. They can change, so confirm the company’s live terms before sending cards.
Which grading company should you choose?
| Company | Best fit to consider | Current service note |
|---|---|---|
| PSA | Collectors prioritizing an established grading brand and wanting to investigate broad resale recognition. | Regular was listed at $79.99 per card, with a $1,500 maximum insured value and an estimated 40–50 business days. Value services were temporarily paused. PSA service page |
| CGC Cards | Collectors weighing published service tiers and distinct grade designations, including batch submitters considering Bulk. | Bulk was listed at $17 per card, with a 25-card minimum and 150 working days; Economy was $20 and 90 working days. CGC fees |
| Beckett | Collectors whose timing and submission needs fit the currently available Express route. | Beckett said Express was available through a temporary form while Base and Standard submissions were paused. Beckett status |
These are company-published service details, not an independent comparison of grading accuracy or resale results. PSA’s service description says it authenticates, grades cards on a 1–10 scale, and encapsulates them. CGC describes a team grading process followed by encapsulation, imaging, and quality control. Those descriptions explain each company’s own process; they do not establish that one is more consistent than another. PSA service page · CGC grading process
How to decide which company fits your card
Start with your goal
- Selling: Compare recent sales for the exact card, language, printing, and grade in each company’s holder. A grader’s name alone does not prove that you will recoup the grading fee or sell for more.
- Keeping or displaying: Consider which holder and label you prefer, along with the grading scale and service cost. A resale premium may matter less if you do not plan to sell.
- Authentication or preservation: Check what the selected service includes and follow its packaging instructions. Grading can authenticate and encapsulate a card, but it does not improve its physical condition.
Check availability, tier limits, and total cost
Compare the tier that is actually accepting submissions, its value limit, and the complete cost—not just the per-card fee. Shipping, insurance, membership, and a tier change or value-based upcharge can affect the total. The published figures here are direct U.S. service rates; submission routes and prices may differ in other countries.

Compare grading labels, not just the number
A grade of 10 is not an identical designation across companies. CGC distinguishes Pristine 10 from Gem Mint 10 and describes different centering expectations for those grades. Read the company’s scale before treating two labels as equivalent: CGC grading scale.
Account for turnaround and logistics
Turnaround figures are estimates, not delivery promises. CGC labels its estimates in working days and says they are not guaranteed. PSA says its estimates may change with submission volume, capacity, and other circumstances. Beckett’s current notice says its temporary Express form is for submissions to its Plano, Texas headquarters, and that service availability can change with demand and backlog. Check the current instructions for your location before mailing.

How to submit without creating avoidable problems
- Choose the company and an open tier. Confirm that the company accepts your card type, the tier is available, and your card’s estimated fair market value fits its limit. Beckett’s Base and Standard services were paused in the status notice checked October 8, 2026; Express was available through a temporary form.
- Read the current submission instructions. CGC’s guide directs submitters to create an account, select a tier based on fair market value and approximate turnaround, and complete the online form. Follow the selected company’s own directions: CGC how-to-submit guide.
- Package the card as instructed. Use suitable protective materials, such as sleeves and semi-rigid holders if the company’s directions call for them. Avoid cleaning or handling the card in ways that could damage it.
- Budget for the full shipment. Add grading, shipping, insurance, and any applicable membership or value-based charges before deciding whether grading makes sense.
- Keep the order details and track the submission. Use the company’s stated process and tracking tools; do not assume the published turnaround begins on the day you mail the package.
When grading may not be worth the cost
Before submitting, estimate the card’s likely grade and compare the value of the card raw with recent sales of the same card in the relevant graded holder. Include every submission cost and the possibility that the card receives a lower grade than you expect. If the likely increase in sale value does not justify the expense—or you value the card more as-is—grading may not be the right choice.
No company information cited here establishes which grader will produce the highest realized sale price for every Pokémon card. Treat resale as a card-by-card decision, not a guaranteed return.
