It packages the same Lara Croft origin-story game with additional content. The precise extras depend on the platform, so check the listing for the version you plan to play.
Is Definitive Edition a different game?
No. The official product page describes Tomb Raider as Lara Croft’s origin story and lists Tomb Raider: Definitive Edition as a release of that game. The publisher calls it the first entry in the Survivor Trilogy. Definitive Edition is therefore a version of the 2013 game, not a follow-up in the series. The publisher’s April 30, 2024 announcement describes its included content.
What does Definitive Edition include?
At a general level, the publisher says Definitive Edition includes previously released content, including the Tomb of the Lost Adventurer Challenge Tomb DLC, plus additional outfits for Lara. The official Nintendo release announcement gives a more specific list for that platform edition:
- All previously released downloadable content.
- Six bonus outfits for Lara.
- Eight online multiplayer maps and four multiplayer characters.
- Digital versions of Tomb Raider: The Beginning, Tomb Raider: The Art of Survival, and the Final Hours of Tomb Raider developer video series.
Those detailed extras are stated for the Nintendo release. Don’t assume that every platform’s Definitive Edition listing includes precisely the same package; compare the listing for your platform before buying.

How do the editions compare?
| Edition or product | What it is | Content established by the publisher |
|---|---|---|
| Tomb Raider | The Lara Croft origin-story game. | The official product page describes the story and lists platform storefront options. The cited page does not provide a complete comparison of every edition’s included extras. |
| Tomb Raider: Definitive Edition | An edition of the same game. | The publisher describes previously released content, including the Tomb of the Lost Adventurer Challenge Tomb DLC, and additional outfits. The Nintendo release announcement specifies its DLC, outfits, multiplayer content, and digital extras. |
| Tomb Raider: Game of the Year Edition | A separately named product. | Its official product page lists the Tomb of the Lost Adventurer, six single-player outfits, eight multiplayer maps, and four characters. The publisher does not provide a complete side-by-side comparison establishing that it is identical to Definitive Edition. |
| Definitive Survivor Trilogy | A three-game bundle, not another name for the single-game Definitive Edition. | Contains Tomb Raider: Definitive Edition, Rise of the Tomb Raider: 20 Year Celebration, and Shadow of the Tomb Raider: Definitive Edition. |
For the named product details, see the publisher’s Tomb Raider catalog and Game of the Year Edition page, and its Nintendo release announcement.
Which platform and listing should you choose?
The official product page lists PlayStation, Xbox, and Steam storefront options for Tomb Raider. The publisher later announced the game for Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch 2. Store availability can vary by platform and region, so search for the exact edition on the store you use and confirm the included content in that listing.
Rank #2
- Full game with 7 bonus missions
- 5 co-op challenge tombs
- Digital copy of original soundtrack
- All previously released outfits and skills
- New “Croft Fitness” outfit for the Tomb Raider in training
- Choose Tomb Raider: Definitive Edition if you want the single game with its documented additional content.
- Choose Tomb Raider: Game of the Year Edition only if that is the product named in your store listing; it is a separate product with its own stated package.
- Choose the Definitive Survivor Trilogy if you want all three games in the Survivor Trilogy, rather than just the first game.
Does Definitive Edition have better graphics or performance?
The publisher’s cited pages do not establish a complete, reliable platform-by-platform comparison of resolution, frame rate, textures, or other technical changes between the original release and every Definitive Edition release. Don’t treat the word “Definitive” alone as proof of a specific technical upgrade. Check platform-specific product details if a particular performance feature matters to you.
