Use Speed Boost when faster movement can help nearby teammates rotate, engage, chase an opening, reposition, or escape. Use Healing Boost when nearby allies need sustain and moving faster is less useful in the moment. Switch as the situation changes; there is no universal heal-versus-speed ratio or official health threshold.
What each song does
Blizzard describes Lúcio’s Crossfade as a switch between two effects for nearby allies: Healing Boost restores health, while Speed Boost increases movement speed. Amp It Up strengthens whichever song is selected when Lúcio activates it. So the practical choice is whether the team needs movement or sustain over the next few moments. Blizzard’s Lúcio ability descriptions do not publish a universal threshold for choosing between them.

When Speed Boost is the better choice
Rotating or repositioning
Favor speed when the team is moving together and arriving sooner or changing position faster could matter. This is especially useful when a route, angle, or piece of cover is time-sensitive.
Engaging or chasing an opening
Speed can help teammates close distance to begin a fight or pursue an advantage. A community guide recommends a speed Amp when a team is engaging from a distance, but that is an informal heuristic—not an official breakpoint or a rule for every engagement. OverwatchUniversity’s 60 Second Lúcio Guide

Disengaging from danger
Consider speed when allies can use the movement to reach cover, break away, or avoid an immediate threat. Faster movement is not automatically the right answer if teammates are trapped or cannot escape the danger.
When Healing Boost is the better choice
Nearby allies need sustain
Choose healing when allies around you need health and additional movement is unlikely to improve their position or survival. The official ability description confirms the healing effect but does not specify a health percentage at which you should switch.

Several teammates are in trouble
A community guide suggests using Healing Boost with Amp It Up when two or more teammates are critical. Treat that as a useful situational prompt, not a fixed threshold: their positions, immediate threats, and chances of surviving long enough to benefit from healing still matter. How to choose in a close call
For a teammate near critical health, ask whether healing can restore enough health in time or whether speed can help them reach safety. The better option depends on whether they can actually escape and how urgent their need for health is. These are practical judgments based on the two song effects, not a published Blizzard formula.

- Urgency: Is someone in immediate danger?
- Movement value: Could faster movement change the outcome by improving timing, position, engagement, or escape?
- Team state: How many nearby teammates need sustain?
- Timing: Is the team rotating, engaging, fighting, or disengaging?
- Amp value: Which song’s stronger effect would help more right now?
Choose the song before using Amp It Up
Amp It Up increases the effectiveness of the selected song, so decide whether the immediate need is movement or healing before activating it. For example, an Amp during a rotation makes sense when faster arrival is valuable; an Amp during a dangerous fight may make more sense on healing if nearby allies need sustain. Neither choice is automatically right in every fight.

Blizzard’s hero page also describes Soundwave as a short-range knockback, Sound Barrier as temporary extra health for nearby allies, and Wall Ride as part of Lúcio’s kit. The page includes perks that can modify abilities; do not assume a perk or a Stadium-specific effect applies to every mode or match. The cited ability page does not state base healing per second, speed percentage, aura radius, or Amp It Up duration, so avoid treating old patch numbers or unsourced community figures as current facts.
