Minecraft 1.22 has no confirmed release date in the official Minecraft updates timeline. When checked on October 8, 2026, the timeline listed Wilderness Bound as the latest release and did not list a release called 1.22.
What the official timeline says about Minecraft 1.22
Mojang’s official Minecraft updates timeline does not list Minecraft 1.22 or give it a release date. That means there is no official 1.22 launch date to report from that source; it does not establish that Mojang will never use the number in the future.
Why Minecraft updates may not have a 1.22 label
Mojang says new features arrive several times a year for free in what it calls “game drops.” The timeline explains that these drops are a more frequent way to release content than one free summer update. It identifies game drops as beginning in 2023 and says they can add content such as biomes, mobs, items, weapons, music, and blocks.
The official FAQ says game drops and game updates ordinarily release on the same day for Java and Bedrock Edition. It names Vibrant Visuals as an exception, so that general timing statement should not be taken to mean every update feature necessarily appears simultaneously in both editions.

How the 1.21.9 release fits in
Mojang announced that Minecraft Java Edition 1.21.9 was released on September 30, 2025, in its Java Edition 1.21.9 announcement. That is a dated Java release, but it is not evidence that Minecraft 1.22 has since been released or assigned a date.
