In classic Minecraft Java Edition, the Far Lands start at about X or Z = ±12,550,821—roughly 12.55 million blocks from the world origin. They are a terrain-generation glitch from older versions, not a feature you should expect in current vanilla Minecraft: the classic Java Far Lands were removed with Beta 1.8, and the related Bedrock behavior was removed in Bedrock 1.17.30.
What coordinates are the Far Lands?
The commonly cited onset is near X = +12,550,821 or −12,550,821, or the same values on Z. The boundary is approximate: the exact edge block can vary by side and coordinate convention, so it is more accurate to say the Far Lands begin about these coordinates than to treat one number as a universal cutoff. The Minecraft Wiki tutorial gives this coordinate range and suggests approaching from roughly 12,550,400–12,550,600 when preparing to observe the terrain: Minecraft Wiki Far Lands tutorial.
X and Z measure horizontal position. Y is height, not distance to the Far Lands. The coordinate is measured from the world origin, not necessarily from your individual player spawn point; a block treated as one meter puts the onset about 12,551 km (7,844 miles) from that origin, according to the same tutorial.
Do the Far Lands still exist in Minecraft?
Classic Java Far Lands
The familiar Java Far Lands belong to older Minecraft terrain generation, through Beta 1.7.3. Beta 1.8 removed the classic glitch, so standard generation in later Java versions does not produce that terrain at 12.55 million coordinates. Bedrock Edition
Bedrock had a related, but distinct, Far Lands behavior around the same broad coordinate range. It was removed in Bedrock 1.17.30, so current Bedrock should not be assumed to contain the classic Far Lands at those coordinates. The reported removal is documented by a community wiki mirror; a Mojang legacy bug-tracker search result also associates the older behavior with the 12,550,821 range, though its page is unavailable for detailed verification.

To see the original Java terrain, use a Beta 1.7.3 profile rather than a current vanilla version. The Minecraft Wiki tutorial recommends preparing to approach at roughly X or Z 12,550,400–12,550,600, before crossing toward the distorted region. Keep a separate world for an old version: opening or converting worlds across versions can change how they are handled, and a current world will not acquire classic Far Lands terrain simply by traveling to the old coordinates.

The long-running Far Lands or Bust journey also illustrates the version distinction: a 2025 report documented Kurt J. Mac reaching the Far Lands in Beta 1.7.3, not in current vanilla generation: PC Gamer report.
