If you mean Old School RuneScape (OSRS), unlock the Loot Keys feature by speaking to Skully at Ferox Enclave, then enable it in the loot-key setting. The currently reported unlock fee is 1,000,000 coins. With the feature active, defeat another player in the Wilderness or a PvP world to receive a key for eligible loot. If you mean a different game, the answer is different.
How to get a Loot Key in OSRS
- Travel to Ferox Enclave.
- Speak to Skully and unlock Loot Keys. The OSRS Wiki currently reports a fee of 1,000,000 coins.
- Turn on the loot-key setting.
- Defeat another player in the Wilderness or a PvP world. With Loot Keys enabled, eligible loot is collected into a key rather than being left entirely on the ground. Jagex described the feature as turning loot from a player into a key that uses one inventory slot in its original announcement.
- Redeem the key at a Loot Chest. The OSRS Wiki’s Loot key page describes the current mechanic and chest locations.
Why do some guides say it costs 5 million coins?
Jagex’s original announcement described a permanent unlock for 5,000,000 gold. That was the proposed launch price, not the later reported fee: the OSRS Wiki’s change history says the cost was reduced to 1,000,000 coins on March 9, 2022. The current fee is supported here by the Wiki; Jagex’s announcement is useful for the original design, not as confirmation of today’s price.
Can you buy a Loot Key?
No physical purchase supplies an OSRS Loot Key. It is a non-tradeable in-game item earned through the PvP mechanic after you enable the feature.
What if you mean a different Loot Key?
“Loot key” is used for unrelated games and services. A separate LOOT crypto game has keys earned through on-chain play, while LootKey is also the name of a digital-content platform. Those are not the OSRS PvP reward, so check the game or service name before following instructions.
