Players have reported that disconnecting during an active bounty in Where Winds Meet is now supposed to send the target to jail automatically. That would close the reported way to evade a hunt by going offline—but it is not confirmed in the official notes, and the available reports do not establish whether the hunter gets credit or whether the behavior works consistently.
What changed with the offline bounty exploit?
Players described a problem in which a bounty target could disconnect during an active hunt. The hunter might then see the message “the target is offline cannot start bounty,” leaving them unable to continue. In a later discussion, a player said an update was intended to automatically arrest a target who disconnects during an active bounty, sending them to jail.
That arrest behavior is player-reported, not an officially documented fix. The reporting player was unsure whether it worked every time or whether the hunter received bounty credit. Another discussion about “going offline from bounty’s” included disagreement over whether the problem had been fixed.
What do the official patch notes confirm?
The official Version 1.2 notes, dated January 8, confirm an adjacent change: clearer notifications for Capture Bounty and Vendetta Bounty, including alerts when another player enters co-op. They do not say that disconnecting during an active bounty triggers arrest, and they do not specify how bounty credit works in that situation.

The official news index lists later updates through September 2026, but the index alone does not verify whether the disconnect-to-jail behavior is present in the current game version.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. What remains uncertain?
- Whether disconnecting triggers arrest: Players report that this was the intended consequence, but the official notes cited here do not confirm it.
- Whether the hunter gets credit: The player reporting the change was unsure; no confirmed credit rule is established.
- Whether it works consistently: The available player accounts do not establish how often the reported behavior occurs or whether it applies in every case.
Until the mechanic is confirmed in official documentation or by reliable, current in-game evidence, treat the automatic jail consequence as a reported change rather than a guaranteed rule.
