Pick the class whose role and combat style you want to play—not a class claimed to be universally strongest. For an easier ranged start, consider Marksman; for fast, demanding melee, consider Wind Knight. If you want to tank, choose between Heavy Guardian’s mitigation and Shield Knight’s self-healing and shielding. For healing and support, compare Verdant Oracle’s sustained defensive healing with Beat Performer’s offensive utility and burst healing.
These recommendations reflect guide assessments, not a verified 2026 balance ranking. Check the class list and patch notes in your game version before committing, especially because the launch-era roster guides are no longer a reliable complete list.

How to choose a class
Start with the job you want to do in a group, then narrow your choice by range, mobility, execution demands, and the kind of support you want to provide. “Best” depends on those preferences, your specialization, and the version you play; the available guides do not establish one strongest class for every player or mode.
- Attack: Decide whether you prefer ranged damage or close-range combat.
- Tank: Choose between a focus on preventing or mitigating damage and one on self-healing and shielding.
- Heal or support: Choose between sustained defensive healing and more offensive party utility with burst healing.
Guides also describe ranged classes as easier to play with Auto or Semi-Auto options, but that is guide advice, not a measured difficulty result or a promise that a class will suit every beginner. Prydwen’s detailed class-choice guide was last updated October 9, 2025, so treat its judgments as guidance rather than a current balance report: Prydwen’s class guide.

Which class is a good fit for you?
For a lower-input ranged start: Marksman
If you want to attack from range and prefer a comparatively forgiving starting point, consider Marksman. Prydwen describes its Falconry and Wildpack specializations as easy and particularly friendly to Auto play. That characterization is an editorial assessment, not a guarantee about performance or ease in every encounter.
For mobile, demanding melee: Wind Knight
Choose Wind Knight if close-range combat, mobility, and a higher execution challenge appeal to you. Prydwen describes its specializations as among the hardest, so it is a less natural recommendation if you want a low-input introduction.
For tanking: Heavy Guardian or Shield Knight
Both classes fill a tank role, but their stated strengths differ. Heavy Guardian emphasizes mitigation and damage prevention; Shield Knight emphasizes self-healing and shielding. Pick according to which defensive approach sounds more satisfying to manage.
For healing and support: Verdant Oracle or Beat Performer
Verdant Oracle leans toward healing over time and defensive group survival. Beat Performer offers offensive party utility alongside burst healing. Consider whether you would rather sustain and protect the group over time or combine healing with more offensive support.
For close-range dual-axe attacks: check Twin Striker
BP Events lists Twin Striker as a Season 3 addition and describes it as close-range dual-axe attack play. Its current availability is not established for every region or game version, so verify the live in-game class list before planning around it: BP Events’ class reference.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. Is there a best class for beginners?
If you are new and want ranged combat with less emphasis on active inputs, Marksman is a reasonable option based on Prydwen’s assessment of its Falconry and Wildpack specializations. If you would rather learn melee through movement and close-range positioning, Wind Knight may be more appealing, but the same guide calls its specializations difficult.
There is no quantified difficulty study or current class ranking in the available evidence. Use these as starting recommendations based on playstyle, then check the current version’s class and specialization details rather than treating a guide rating as a definitive result.
Can you change classes later?
Launch-era guides describe switching to other classes after unlocking them, so the initial choice is not presented as irreversible. However, classes use class-specific weapons, and a beginner guide cautions that early resources are limited. It is sensible to focus early investment on the class and specialization you are actively playing rather than assuming every option can be developed equally at once.

Check the roster and balance for your version
Older guides describe eight launch-era classes with two specializations each, but that should not be repeated as the complete current roster: BP Events lists Twin Striker as a Season 3 addition, while other class overviews still show the older eight-class list. The sources do not establish Twin Striker’s availability in every region or the current live roster for every version.
The detailed Prydwen class-choice guide was last updated October 9, 2025. Its balance and difficulty assessments may not reflect later seasons or changes, and it says most specializations were relatively balanced at release when considering average skill and accessible Imagines. That launch-era assessment does not establish present-day balance. Check the in-game class list and patch notes for your region and version before relying on a roster or ranking.
