The difference is that many cards in Hyperia City are built to care about Ink Drops directly, so the resource becomes a set of hooks for specific synergies rather than a generic boost.
How Ink Drops work
An Ink Drop is added to your inkwell. You can remove one from the inkwell to generate one ink, which lets you pay for a card you could not otherwise afford yet. A drop is most useful when you spend it to play something expensive earlier than you could, but it is also worth holding when a card rewards keeping a drop in the inkwell or spending one at a specific moment.
The feature frames this as the core distinction between the two games. A drop’s base value is simple. What makes it interesting is how cards in the set interact with it.
How Ink Drops compare with Magic’s Treasure tokens

The practical takeaway is that a Lorcana drop is less a flat mana source and more a condition that other cards check. Treasure tokens can be part of a deck’s engine, but the feature argues that Lorcana cards are written to reward the presence or spending of drops in more specific ways.

Emerald: Super characters

Steel: combat and challenges
- Arthur – Jousting Knight and Sir Pellinore – Tougher Than He Looks create drops by banishing characters.

Release timing
The feature reports that Hyperia City prerelease events at local game stores begin October 16, 2026, with a wider launch on October 23, 2026. These are the dates the feature gives. They have not been matched against an official Ravensburger announcement, so confirm them with the publisher or your local store before planning around them.
