Star Wars: Galactic Racer answers the question directly: yes, a major Star Wars game can be built without a Jedi protagonist or lightsaber combat. Launched worldwide on October 6, 2026, for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC, it puts you in the cockpit of landspeeders, speeder bikes, skim speeders, and podracers inside the Galactic League, an underground racing circuit in the Outer Rim. Its existence makes a strong case for more non-Jedi Star Wars games, though the evidence supports that argument about creative range rather than proving a franchise-wide shortage.
What Galactic Racer is
Galactic Racer is a high-stakes, runs-based racing adventure. The developers and Lucasfilm Games frame it around skill, vehicle handling, and rivalry rather than the Force. The official game site puts the pitch in one line: “No Force. No prophecy. Just skill, strategy, and the will to survive.” That is marketing language, but it matches what the game asks you to do on screen: finish races, manage your vehicle, and keep your run alive.
The story follows Shade, a new character, and his conflict with the reigning champion, Kestar Bool. Other new characters include Darius Pax and Hibi. The established Star Wars presence is Sebulba, the podracer rival, so the game uses familiar names without making any of them a Jedi.
Vehicles and handling
The game spans four vehicle classes, and each one is meant to feel different to fly or drive. Lucasfilm Games and the developer describe the handling through real-world analogues, which is a useful way to understand what you are choosing when you pick a ride.

| Vehicle | Developer’s handling analogue | What it means for play |
|---|---|---|
| Landspeeder | Car-like | Closest to a road racer in feel, as the developers describe it |
| Speeder bike | Bike-like | Lighter, more direct handling than the landspeeder, per the developers’ analogy |
| Skim speeder | Plane-like | Built around aerial-style control, per the developers’ analogy |
| Podracer | Horse-and-chariot analogy, plus Formula 1 | Combines a rider-and-mount feel with high-performance racing references |
Design Director Mark Bridges explains that an early prototype used a traction model in line with wheeled vehicles. The team dropped that approach because repulsorcraft do not grip the ground through tire traction. This is a description of the developers’ design process, not an independent measurement of how the vehicles behave.
Modes and run structure
Galactic Racer ships with three modes:
- Campaign: the story-driven route through the Galactic League.
- Scenario: self-contained challenges outside the main story.
- Arcade: open racing without the campaign framing.
Progression is built around runs. You choose events and unlocks, and a run restarts after too many crashes. Some perks carry across attempts, which means a failed run is not a complete reset. The official material does not state the exact crash threshold, so expect the number to be a design detail you learn through play.

Where the setting comes from
The game moves across a set of planets that official coverage identifies as Jakku, Sentinel I, Lantaana, Derven Acos, Ando Prime, Tatooine, and Crait. Lucasfilm Games executive producer Craig Derrick presented the February 12, 2026 gameplay reveal with this goal: “Our goal with Galactic Racer is to deliver a racing experience that’s cinematic, skill-driven, and unmistakably Star Wars, and this gameplay reveal is a major step toward that vision.” The statement is a statement of intent from the developer, and it shows the team’s priority: racing that feels like Star Wars without relying on Jedi iconography.
The developers also brought in Fuse Games, whose team background includes Need for Speed and Burnout. A racing specialist’s experience explains why the vehicle work reads as a racing game, though pedigree alone does not guarantee a good result.

Why it supports the case for more non-Jedi games
The strongest argument for the headline is that Galactic Racer shows how much of the Star Wars fantasy sits outside lightsaber duels. Piloting, rivalry, vehicle upgrades, and the tension of surviving a run are all core to the game, and none of them requires a Force user. Creative Bloq’s launch review describes the focused choice to build the game around speeders and podracing, and it notes the differences among the vehicle types. PC Gamer’s review describes the racing culture the game imagines for the period between Return of the Jedi and The Force Awakens. Both are individual reviewers’ assessments, and they point to the same idea: the setting carries its own stories.
What the game does not prove
Galactic Racer proves that a major Star Wars game can work on a different genre and fantasy. It does not prove that the franchise has too few non-Jedi games, that players uniformly want more of them, or that the game’s sales demonstrate demand. Launch coverage describes the design and the structure, not the audience response. This article also does not attempt a catalogue of other Star Wars games without Jedi; the material available covers this title, and any claim about the wider library would need its own evidence.

Who should consider it
- You care more about racing and vehicle handling than about Jedi-focused action.
- You want a solo campaign, plus Scenario and Arcade modes for shorter sessions.
- You are comfortable with a runs-based structure where crashes end attempts and perks may carry over.
- You play on PS5, Xbox Series X|S, or PC.
If those points describe you, Galactic Racer is a clear example of Star Wars beyond the Jedi. Its value to the franchise is the range it shows, and that is a fair reason to want more games like it.
