Yes—the planned System Shock series for Australian streaming service Binge is not going forward, according to Nightdive Studios CEO Stephen Kick. In an interview published by FRVR on October 8, 2026, Kick said the project had fizzled out before production. That ends the Binge version, not the possibility of a future adaptation elsewhere.
What happened to the System Shock TV show?
Nightdive Studios and Binge announced plans for a System Shock television project in 2021. Kick, who was an executive producer on the proposed series, told FRVR that the company they had been working with had also licensed other video-game properties. He said, “I don’t believe that company is still around [in that form]. So that won’t be happening through Binge.”

Kick’s account points to the project’s partner no longer existing in the same form as the reason the Binge project fell through. FRVR did not report a formal cancellation notice, an exact date development stopped, or contractual details. The status is therefore best described as Kick’s account that the series will not happen through Binge.
How far had the adaptation progressed?
The project reportedly reached preliminary first-draft scripts, but Kick’s description does not indicate that a season was ordered or that production began. He recalled, “We did get the preliminary scripts for the show,” and described a proposed format of “six-to-eight fifteen minute long kind of shorts” rather than conventional half-hour episodes. Those were plans for the development project, not a finished or released series.

Kick said the direction interested him and that he had discussed the scripts with the screenwriters, but that was as far as the project went before it “basically became vapour.” The quotes here are reported by FRVR in its interview with Kick, rather than drawn from a separately published transcript. Could System Shock still get a show or movie?
Possibly, but no replacement project has been announced. Kick said, “It’s my hope that, maybe one day, somewhere else, I would love to see System Shock adapted to either television or streaming or a movie.” That expresses his interest in a future adaptation; it is not confirmation that another studio or service is developing one.

Does this affect the System Shock game?
No. The status of the proposed show is separate from the game. The official Steam announcement archive records that the remake’s version 2.1 parity update went live across platforms on March 20, 2026. That update is evidence of continued maintenance of the game, not evidence that the Binge series remained in development. See the official System Shock Steam announcements.
