The right choice depends on whether you prefer stealth, ranged attacks or open melee combat—and on your gear, abilities and access to the game’s expansions. Ubisoft presents Hunter, Assassin and Warrior as distinct combat paths, while also encouraging players to mix abilities to create their own style.
Which build fits your play style?
Use your preferred way of handling encounters as the starting point. These are play-style options, not a performance ranking: Ubisoft’s guidance does not compare their damage or effectiveness by level or difficulty.

Ubisoft describes Hunter as ranged, Assassin as stealth-focused and Warrior as melee-focused. The distinctions help you choose a primary style; they do not mean you must use only abilities from that tree.
How do abilities and hybrid builds work?
Abilities use adrenaline, which Ubisoft says you build during fights or through assassinations. You can combine abilities from different trees rather than treating your chosen specialization as a strict restriction.

Stealth-first with a combat option
Make Assassin your primary direction if you want to approach encounters quietly. A useful example of a cross-style ability is Hero Strike: Ubisoft highlights this Assassin-branch ability as useful in full combat, too. It illustrates why a hybrid can support a primary style without abandoning it.
Choose a secondary style for the situations you face
A Warrior or Hunter secondary focus can give a stealth-oriented character another way to respond when an encounter becomes open combat or calls for ranged attacks. Conversely, a Warrior-first character might mix in abilities from another tree to suit the way they approach encounters. These are flexible planning ideas, not verified optimal loadouts: Ubisoft’s overview supports mixing abilities but does not establish a winning combination.

How should you build around gear?
Build-making is not only about ability choices. Ubisoft’s starter guidance recommends adding engravings to current gear and upgrading gear at a blacksmith. Treat that as a practical loop: acquire gear and abilities, engrave the gear you are using, and visit a blacksmith when you want to upgrade it.
The available official guidance does not establish specific best-in-slot items, stat priorities, or exact ability-point allocations. Without a verified comparison, avoid treating a particular item list or point-by-point setup as universally best—especially if it comes from an older guide and does not account for later changes or expansion content.

What changes if you have Judgment of Atlantis?
Judgment of Atlantis adds expansion-specific options. Ubisoft says it introduced enhanced versions of abilities and three legendary Isu weapons, with Assassin, Hunter or Warrior enhancements. Ubisoft also says the enhanced ability versions require the underlying ability to be fully leveled, do not require extra Ability Points, and can be switched with the original versions.
Those options are relevant only if you have access to the expansion. A recommendation built around an enhanced ability or one of its legendary weapons should say so rather than presenting it as part of a base-game build.
How should you interpret older build advice?
Patch history is a reason to be cautious about old optimization claims, not proof that any one build now wins. Ubisoft’s version 1.1.2 notes document fixes related to engravings and ability perks. They establish that these mechanics have received corrections, but do not provide a current comparison of builds.
For a practical choice, start with the combat style you enjoy, use abilities that support it, and adjust your gear and engravings as you progress. Treat exact “best build” claims as recommendations tied to their stated patch, level, equipment and expansion assumptions—not as an official universal ranking.
