RLCraft is Minecraft with the safety off. Thirst and temperature, no easy healing, skill-locked gear and dragons that will end a careless run in seconds. It is brutal solo and better with friends, which is why so many groups want an RLCraft server of their own. The pack is also demanding, so the host matters more than usual.

Short answer: Godlike.Host is the best RLCraft host for most groups. It installs RLCraft, or the newer RLCraft Dregora, with one click, has the world ready in under a minute, and publishes RLCraft-specific advice on RAM and Forge versions. WinterNode is the pick for long backup history, Kinetic Hosting for raw CPU speed, and BerryByte for moving an existing world.

What an RLCraft server needs

  • The right versions. RLCraft runs on Minecraft 1.12.2 with Forge, and the current release is 2.9.3. Every player must run exactly the same pack version as the server.
  • Enough memory. Hosts’ own guidance clusters around 6 to 8 GB for a server, with one host suggesting 12 GB. Explorers spreading out, mob-heavy areas and more players all push that number up.
  • A fast CPU. RLCraft’s dangerous world generation and big mob roster load the server’s main thread, so clock speed matters more than core count.
  • Real backups. In a pack this punishing, a lost base is part of the game. A corrupted world is not, and frequent backups are the fix.

1. Godlike.Host: best overall for RLCraft

Godlike.Host treats RLCraft as a first-class pack rather than one entry in a long list. Its RLCraft page sets out the essentials: Minecraft 1.12.2 on Forge, release 2.9.3, more than 340 optional quests, and the mobs you will meet, from Lycanites to Ice and Fire dragons. Deployment takes one click, and Godlike says the world is ready in under a minute, with RAM, mod settings, difficulty and permissions adjustable in the panel afterwards.

The advice is specific too. Godlike recommends 6 to 8 GB for an RLCraft server, scaling with players and view distance, and Forge 1.12.2 build 2860 or newer for security reasons. It also passes on the RLCraft author’s warning: add extra mods only if you know how they interact, because some break progression or crash the game. If your group has finished the classic pack, the separate RLCraft Dregora page installs the newer edition, for which Godlike recommends 8 GB.

  • Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. • Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
  • Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
  • Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
  • 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.

Behind the pack, every Godlike server is backed up for free up to three times a day and gets DDoS protection and a choice of 10 locations across North America, Europe and Singapore. You can also upload a custom server pack if you change the mod list.

Good to know: Godlike’s free Minecraft plan has 2 GB of RAM, well below what RLCraft needs, so start on a paid plan.

2. WinterNode: best for backup history

WinterNode’s RLCraft page installs release 2.9.3 on Minecraft 1.12.2 with one click, and it backs every server up twice a day, keeping 45 days of history. On a long RLCraft run, that history is gold: you can roll back past an update that broke something days ago. Plans include unmetered CPU with no throttling, unmetered NVMe storage and MySQL databases, and you can reinstall any of its 300-plus one-click modpacks later. There is a separate RLCraft Dregora page as well.

WinterNode recommends 8 GB for RLCraft and says the pack runs well on 6 to 8 GB, and its memory selector goes from 2 GB to 32 GB.

3. Kinetic Hosting: best for CPU speed

Kinetic Hosting’s servers run on NVMe storage with CPUs up to an AMD Ryzen 9 9950X at 5.7 GHz, which suits RLCraft’s heavy world generation. Every plan has no player caps, five backup slots with one-click restore, crash alerts and the ability to split resources into several servers. One-click installs cover modpacks, worlds, mods and plugins, and you can swap to another game at any time. Kinetic has order pages for both RLCraft and RLCraft Dregora.

Pricing is published plainly by memory, and you can upgrade whenever you need more room.

Good to know: Kinetic recommends 12 GB for RLCraft, more than the other hosts here, so budget for a bigger plan than the entry tier.

4. BerryByte: best for moving an existing world

BerryByte’s RLCraft plan comes with the pack already selected. Pick a plan and location, and official RLCraft 2.9.3 for Minecraft 1.12.2 is installed after checkout. If your world lives on another host, send BerryByte a backup and it moves the world and settings for you. Every plan includes backups, so you can snapshot before an update or an experiment.

BerryByte’s memory advice is clear: 6 GB as the starting estimate for official RLCraft, 8 GB if more players explore and spawn extra mobs.

Good to know: BerryByte installs official RLCraft only, so players on unofficial remakes cannot join.

5. PebbleHost: best for starting small

PebbleHost has a dedicated RLCraft page, and its guidance matches the field: 6 to 8 GB is typically a good starting point for smaller modded servers like RLCraft. Its Budget plans are priced per gigabyte, which makes it easy to start at exactly the RAM you need and grow from there. Premium plans add free daily and hourly incremental backups and a one-click installer covering around 12,000 modpacks.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Good to know: Budget plans list no backups, so choose Premium if your world matters to you.

6. Akliz: best for a no-fuss setup

Akliz offers a recommended RLCraft plan that installs the modpack instantly, with nothing to upload and no files to manage by hand. For a group that wants to click once and play, that is as simple as RLCraft hosting gets. More plan sizes are on its pricing page.

Good to know: the RLCraft page does not list the recommended plan’s RAM, backup schedule or locations, so check those before you order.

RLCraft or RLCraft Dregora?

Classic RLCraft (2.9.3) is the pack most guides and most players know. RLCraft Dregora is a newer edition on the same Minecraft 1.12.2 base, and it needs a little more memory: Godlike recommends 8 GB for Dregora against 6 to 8 GB for classic RLCraft. Godlike.Host, WinterNode and Kinetic Hosting all have Dregora pages, so you can move to it later on the same host.

Whichever you choose, the whole group must play the same edition and version as the server.

Setting up your RLCraft server

  1. Pick the edition, classic RLCraft or Dregora, and agree on it with your group.
  2. Choose a plan with at least the RAM your host recommends for that edition, in the location nearest most players.
  3. Install the pack with the host’s one-click installer.
  4. Check the Forge version. Godlike recommends Forge 1.12.2 build 2860 or newer.
  5. Set up backups before anyone joins, and take a manual one before every change.
  6. Share the address. Each player installs the same RLCraft version through a launcher such as CurseForge, then joins from the Multiplayer menu.

Tips for a stable RLCraft world

  • Use Java 8. Minecraft 1.12.2 runs on Java 8, and newer Java releases cause start-up problems with this version of Forge.
  • Pre-generate the area around spawn before launch day, so the server is not building dungeons and ruins while players run into them.
  • Keep the view distance modest. RLCraft’s world generation is heavy, and a shorter view distance is the quickest way to cut lag.
  • Do not stack extra mods casually. As the RLCraft author warns, many mods conflict with the pack.
  • Restart daily at a quiet hour to clear memory on long-running worlds.

Running RLCraft for a group

RLCraft is designed to be unfair, and a group server works best when everyone agrees on how unfair before the first night falls. A few settings decide the tone:

  • Whitelist the server. Run /whitelist on and add each player with /whitelist add <name>. A hardcore world is no fun when a stranger wanders in and burns your base.
  • Decide on keepInventory early. Losing everything on death is part of RLCraft’s identity, but some groups turn the keepInventory game rule on so a dragon does not end a week of progress. Pick one and stick with it.
  • Agree on PvP. Set pvp in server.properties to match your group. Co-op groups usually turn it off; RLCraft’s mobs are dangerous enough.
  • Leave the difficulty alone at first. The pack is balanced around its own settings. Play a few sessions before you change difficulty, so you know what you are changing.
  • Back up before boss fights and big trips. A manual backup before the group takes on a dragon or explores far from base costs seconds and can save the world if something goes wrong on the server’s side.

RLCraft also rewards a shared base early on. Thirst, temperature and slow healing make solo wandering risky, so a central base with water, food and a bed gives new players somewhere safe to start, and keeps the busy part of the world in one place, which is easier on the server.

FAQ

How much RAM does an RLCraft server need?

Most hosts recommend 6 to 8 GB for a small group: Godlike.Host, BerryByte, WinterNode and PebbleHost all land in that range. Kinetic Hosting recommends 12 GB. Add memory as more players explore at the same time.

Which Minecraft and Forge version does RLCraft use?

RLCraft runs on Minecraft 1.12.2 with Forge. Godlike.Host recommends Forge build 2860 or newer for security reasons.

Can I add mods to RLCraft?

Only carefully. The RLCraft author warns that some mods are not compatible and can break progression or crash the game. Add one at a time and back up first.

Do my friends need the same version?

Yes. Every player must run exactly the same RLCraft edition and version as the server, or they will get mismatched-mod errors when joining.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Can I run an RLCraft server for free?

Not well. Free hosting tiers rarely offer the 6 GB or more that RLCraft needs. Godlike.Host’s free plan, for example, has 2 GB. You can host it on your own PC for free if it has the memory to spare.
