Formicai Hills is one of those ARC Raiders locations that quietly filters experienced raiders from reckless ones. On the surface, it looks like a wide-open, low-density zone, but for players pushing the Keeping the Memory objective, it’s a pressure test of route planning, threat awareness, and timing. This area is where narrative progression collides head-on with PvPvE risk, especially if you’re trying to finish the objective without ringing the dinner bell for every squad on the map. Understanding why Formicai Hills matters is the difference between a clean extract and losing quest progress to bad aggro management.
Where Formicai Hills Sits on the Map
Formicai Hills is positioned on the outer edge of the current raid map, typically bordering transitional zones that funnel players either toward high-loot industrial sectors or safer peripheral extracts. Its elevation changes and rolling terrain make it visually distinct, but also deceptively exposed. You’re rarely more than a few seconds away from being silhouetted against the skyline, which matters when hostile players are scanning with optics. The safest approach is usually from the low ground paths that snake in from adjacent zones, using rocks and ruined structures to break line of sight.
Why Keeping the Memory Sends You Here
Keeping the Memory isn’t just a fetch quest; it’s a lore-heavy objective designed to force players into contested spaces tied to ARC’s past. Formicai Hills contains the environmental markers and interactable remnants required to advance the objective, usually clustered near old installations or partially buried structures. The game intentionally places these objectives away from hard cover, forcing you to commit time while exposed. That design choice makes situational awareness and enemy clearing mandatory, not optional.
Enemy Presence and Environmental Threats
Expect a mix of roaming ARC machines and static patrols, with lighter units acting as early-warning systems that can snowball into full aggro if mishandled. Drones and mid-tier automatons often patrol the ridgelines, while heavier enemies anchor near quest-relevant points of interest. The terrain itself is a hazard, with uneven slopes that can mess with movement and limited hard cover during firefights. If you pull too many enemies at once, disengaging is harder here than in tighter urban zones.

Optimal Routes and Extraction Planning
Efficiency in Formicai Hills comes from minimizing time spent stationary. Clear the outer patrols first, then move directly to the Keeping the Memory interaction before other players rotate in. Suppressed weapons or burst damage builds help prevent chain aggro, especially if another squad is nearby farming kills. Once the objective is complete, rotate immediately toward the nearest low-traffic extract rather than backtracking, as Formicai Hills tends to attract late-raid scavengers hunting distracted questers.
Exact Map Location of Formicai Hills and How to Identify It In-Raid
Formicai Hills sits in the elevated mid-band of the map, positioned between lower industrial zones and the more open wilderness corridors players use to rotate late-raid. It’s not a named POI you stumble into accidentally; you have to intentionally push uphill, which is exactly why it’s such a pressure point for Keeping the Memory. Most raid paths funnel through the surrounding low ground, making the hills visible long before they’re reachable.
Where Formicai Hills Is on the Map
On the tactical map, Formicai Hills occupies a long, uneven ridgeline rather than a compact landmark. You’ll usually find it north or northeast of major factory ruins, marked by broken terrain lines and sparse structural icons instead of dense buildings. If your map shows a cluster of elevation contours with minimal cover symbols, you’re looking at the right zone.
The Keeping the Memory objective marker typically anchors itself just off the ridgeline, not at the peak. That placement forces you to traverse exposed slopes instead of hugging cliff edges, which is why approaching from the correct side matters more than raw firepower.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsVisual and Environmental Tells In-Raid
In-raid, Formicai Hills is easiest to identify by its silhouette. Jagged rock spines, half-buried pylons, and old ARC infrastructure jut out at odd angles, creating a skyline that’s visible from surprisingly far away. If you see wind-swept terrain with rusted metal ribs sticking out of the ground, you’re already in visual range.
Audio cues also help. Machine patrols here tend to echo more due to the open terrain, so distant mechanical footfalls and drone hums carry farther than in urban zones. If your audio mix suddenly feels louder and more exposed, you’re likely entering the hills.
Safest Approaches Based on Spawn and Rotation
The safest way into Formicai Hills is almost always from the lowest adjacent zone, using winding paths that break line of sight from the ridge. Approaching from above or laterally puts you directly in view of both enemy patrols and other players rotating for quests or loot. Low-ground entries give you more control over aggro and let you clear enemies incrementally.
Avoid sprinting the final ascent. The slope geometry can eat stamina faster than expected, and getting caught mid-climb is a death sentence if a drone patrol locks on. Walk it, clear ahead, and only commit to the objective once the immediate area is quiet.
What to Watch for Near the Objective Point
The Keeping the Memory interaction point is usually near partially buried installations or broken ARC terminals embedded into the hillside. These spots are deliberately placed away from solid cover, meaning you’ll be exposed during the interaction timer. Expect at least one heavier automaton nearby, often stationary but quick to aggro if lighter units spot you first.
Environmental hazards matter here. Sloped terrain can mess with hit registration and grenade throws, and sliding during a firefight can pull you out of cover unintentionally. Position yourself so you have downhill escape options, not uphill retreats, before starting the interaction.
Extraction Awareness Once Formicai Hills Is Identified
Once you’ve confirmed you’re in Formicai Hills, you should already be thinking about where you’re leaving. The zone attracts late-raid players who know questers linger here, so extracts closest to the hills are often watched. Rotate out toward quieter edges of the map instead of retracing your entry path.
If your extract requires crossing another open zone, wait and listen before committing. Clearing the objective fast is only half the job; surviving the exit is what turns Keeping the Memory from a risk into a clean progression step.

Safest Routes to Reach Formicai Hills (Spawn-Dependent Pathing)
Reaching Formicai Hills safely is less about raw gun skill and more about reading your spawn and choosing a route that minimizes forced engagements. Because the Keeping the Memory objective pins you in place during the interaction, every unnecessary fight on the way in increases the odds of getting third-partied. Your goal is to arrive with ammo, cooldowns, and stamina intact.
Southern and Low-Ground Spawns: The Preferred Entry
If you spawn south or downslope from Formicai Hills, you’re in the best possible position. Stick to the winding terrain features and shallow ravines that naturally break line of sight from the ridge above. These paths limit long-range aggro from drones and reduce the chance of another squad spotting you from elevation.

Move deliberately and clear light enemies as you go, but don’t overcommit to fights that aren’t blocking your path. Automaton scouts in these areas tend to leash predictably, so you can pull them back, eliminate them quietly, and keep moving without alerting the hilltop patrols.
Eastern Spawns: Rotate Wide, Then Cut In
Eastern spawns are deceptively dangerous because they funnel players through semi-open ground that looks safe at first glance. Instead of heading straight toward the hills, rotate wide along natural cover like rock clusters or collapsed structures, then cut in once you’re below the ridgeline. This adds time, but massively reduces PvP risk.
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Expect roaming drones and at least one heavier unit guarding common choke points. Use terrain to break aggro rather than burning DPS, especially if you hear gunfire ahead. That’s often another squad rushing the same objective and thinning the AI for you.
Northern or High-Ground Spawns: Avoid Direct Descents
Spawning north or above Formicai Hills is the riskiest scenario. Dropping straight down puts you in full view of both enemy patrols and players rotating through the area for late-raid objectives. High-ground advantage disappears quickly once you start descending, and retreating uphill under fire is brutal.
Your safest play is to rotate laterally first, losing elevation gradually before approaching from the side or rear of the hills. This keeps stamina drain manageable and prevents drones from locking on while you’re mid-slide with no cover. Patience here often saves the raid.
Timing Your Approach With Raid Flow
No matter the spawn, timing matters as much as pathing. Early raids have heavier AI density but fewer players, while mid-to-late raids flip that equation. If you’re early, clear methodically and listen for patrol audio cues; if you’re late, assume other players are nearby and avoid firing unless necessary.

Completing ‘Keeping the Memory’ at Formicai Hills: Objective Steps and Interaction Details
Once you commit to Formicai Hills, the priority shifts from movement to control. This objective isn’t hard mechanically, but it’s punishing if you rush it or trigger unnecessary aggro. The location is compact, heavily patrolled, and notorious for third-party PvP during mid-raid rotations.
Where Formicai Hills Sits and Why It’s So Contested
Formicai Hills occupies a shallow bowl between broken ridgelines, with the quest area anchored near a partially collapsed memorial structure. It’s visually distinct once you’re close, but hard to spot from a distance due to elevation changes and debris clutter. That layout makes it a natural funnel for both AI patrols and players cutting across the map.
Because the hills sit between multiple extraction-adjacent routes, squads often pass through without intending to stop. That’s why you should assume someone could stumble in at any moment, even if the area sounds quiet.
Step One: Securing the Immediate Patrols
Before touching the objective, clear the inner ring of enemies. Expect light-to-medium ARC units, usually drones paired with at least one ground-based enforcer that patrols in a looping path. These enemies have overlapping aggro ranges, so pulling one without line-of-sight breaks can cascade fast.
Use the terrain dips around the memorial to isolate targets. Burst damage works better than sustained fire here, since prolonged DPS draws attention from the outer hill patrols and broadcasts your position to nearby players.
Step Two: Interacting With the Memorial Object
The Keeping the Memory interaction is tied to a small, unassuming object embedded near the base of the memorial structure. The prompt only appears when you’re close and facing it directly, which often forces you into partial cover rather than full concealment. The interaction takes several seconds and does not grant I-frames.
Start the interaction only after audio cues go dead. If a drone respawns mid-channel or another squad pushes, cancel immediately and reposition. Losing a few seconds is always better than being locked in place when aggro snaps.

Environmental Hazards and Common Mistakes
Loose rocks and uneven slopes around Formicai Hills can drain stamina faster than expected, especially if you’re strafing while aiming. Running dry mid-fight is a death sentence here because there’s very little hard cover once you leave the memorial’s shadow. Manage stamina like a resource, not a safety net.
Another frequent mistake is looting nearby crates after completing the interaction. Those containers are bait, and experienced players watch this area specifically for post-objective greed. Finish the task, reload, and prepare to move.
Extraction and Exit Routing After Completion
Once Keeping the Memory updates, treat the area as compromised. Even if no shots were fired, the interaction noise and enemy resets increase the odds of contact. The safest exits mirror your approach: lateral movement first, then elevation changes once you’re clear of the hills.
Avoid sprinting straight toward the nearest extraction unless it’s already confirmed clear. Rotating wide adds seconds but drastically lowers PvP risk, especially against squads hunting late-raid objectives. The goal here isn’t just completion, it’s surviving with progress intact.

Understanding enemy behavior here is what separates a clean objective run from a forced redeploy. Formicai Hills sits on a natural AI traffic junction, and enemy logic reflects that. Patrols overlap, respawns are conditional, and aggro can chain faster than players expect if you fight inefficiently.
Primary Enemy Types and Threat Profiles
The most consistent presence around Formicai Hills comes from ARC drones and light mechanical sentries cycling between the lower slopes and the memorial ridge. These enemies have predictable movement paths but aggressive aggro ranges, especially if you fire from elevation. Their hitboxes are forgiving, but their alert logic is not.
Occasionally, a heavier unit spawns on the outer hill ring, usually tied to mid-raid escalation. You don’t need to kill these for Keeping the Memory, and doing so is almost always a mistake. Their health pool and noise footprint drastically increase the odds of third-party PvP.
Patrol Routes and Reset Behavior
Most patrols orbit the hills in wide arcs rather than tight loops. This means clearing one side of the memorial does not guarantee safety on the other. Enemies can and will path back toward the objective area if combat noise or player movement pulls them off-route.
Patrols reset faster here than in nearby lowlands, especially after objective interactions. If you disengage for more than a minute, assume at least one drone has respawned on a high-angle approach. This is why timing the interaction during a full audio lull is critical.
Aggro Triggers and Sound Discipline
Formicai Hills amplifies sound more than surrounding zones due to elevation and open sightlines. Unsuppressed weapons, prolonged DPS, and explosive damage can pull enemies from outside visual range. Even a single missed shot can be enough to wake a patrol you never saw.
Melee or high-burst eliminations are the safest way to manage nearby threats. The goal isn’t clearing the area, it’s keeping enemy logic dormant long enough to finish the objective and leave. Every extra kill increases the chance of a cascade.
PvP Pressure and Player Behavior Patterns
Because Keeping the Memory is a known progression choke point, experienced raiders actively hunt this area. Most squads approach from the lower western slope or cut across the ridge line to maintain overwatch. If you hear distant combat that isn’t targeting you, assume players are probing patrol responses.
Smart teams wait for AI aggro to reveal your position. If enemies suddenly path toward you without provocation, it’s often because another squad is using noise to flush you out. When that happens, reposition immediately rather than holding ground.
Environmental Factors That Affect Enemy Logic
The uneven terrain around Formicai Hills affects both stamina and enemy pathing. Enemies will often funnel through narrow rock gaps instead of climbing directly, which can be exploited for quick eliminations. However, those same choke points are lethal if you’re caught reloading or stamina-starved.

Elevation works both ways. High ground gives visibility, but it also makes you the first target when patrols re-acquire. Staying slightly below the ridgeline keeps you off long-range detection while still letting you react to movement.
Optimal Timing and Risk Windows
The safest window to operate around Formicai Hills is early to mid-raid, before global escalation ramps up enemy density. Late-raid runs drastically increase patrol overlap and PvP traffic, turning a simple interaction into a contested hotspot.
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →If you arrive and see multiple patrols crossing paths, don’t force it. Rotate out, wait for resets, or approach from a different angle. Patience here isn’t passive play, it’s risk management tailored to how ARC Raiders’ AI actually thinks.
Environmental Hazards and Visibility Risks Unique to the Area
Formicai Hills doesn’t just punish bad positioning, it actively distorts how information flows during a raid. Between broken elevation lines, wind-carved terrain, and inconsistent sightlines, players often misread what’s actually safe. That’s what makes Keeping the Memory dangerous even when the area looks quiet.
Broken Sightlines and False Cover
The biggest trap in Formicai Hills is assuming rock formations provide real cover. Many of the shale ridges and collapsed stone walls only block vision from certain angles, leaving your hitbox exposed to enemies pathing below or players holding off-angle overwatch. This is especially dangerous near the memory site, where terrain looks dense but has multiple visibility leaks.
Low shrubs and debris piles worsen the problem. They reduce your visual clarity without breaking enemy line of sight, meaning AI can aggro or players can tag you before you ever see the source. Crouching behind foliage here is a visibility downgrade, not stealth.
Elevation, Sun Glare, and Detection Thresholds
Formicai Hills sits along a sloped ridge north of the central lowlands, and that elevation creates harsh lighting shifts depending on approach direction. When pushing in from the western slope, the sun glare often washes out enemy silhouettes along the ridgeline. Enemies, however, don’t suffer that penalty and will detect movement based on animation, not contrast.
Staying just below the crest is critical. Once you break the skyline, both AI and players get extended detection windows, and patrols tend to re-acquire faster after losing aggro. This is why experienced raiders snake along the hillside instead of walking the ridge directly.
Audio Occlusion and Misleading Threat Cues
Sound behaves inconsistently in this area due to elevation changes and narrow rock channels. Footsteps, reloads, and even ARC unit movement can sound farther or closer than they actually are. This makes it easy to overcommit to a fight or misjudge whether a patrol is rotating toward you or away.
The danger spikes during Keeping the Memory because the interaction locks you in place briefly. While you’re focused on the objective, audio cues may suggest safety even as enemies path through adjacent elevation gaps. Always assume at least one blind approach you can’t hear clearly.

Environmental Choke Points and Extraction Risk
The safest access route into Formicai Hills is a shallow eastern approach that keeps terrain between you and the central basin. However, that same route becomes hazardous on extraction. Narrow rock corridors funnel both players and AI, and stamina drain from climbing can leave you unable to sprint when contact happens.
If you’re completing Keeping the Memory, plan your exit before you interact. Southern downhill paths offer faster disengage but higher visibility, while northern routes reduce exposure at the cost of longer traversal. Choose based on whether PvP pressure or AI density is currently higher, because this area punishes hesitation more than almost anywhere else on the map.

Formicai Hills sits on a natural crossroads between the central lowlands and the northern extraction lanes, which makes PvP pressure inevitable during Keeping the Memory. Even when the area feels quiet, player traffic spikes here because the elevation offers overwatch on multiple rotations. Treat every approach as contested, not incidental.
Primary Player Routes Through Formicai Hills
Most raiders reach Formicai Hills from the east, hugging terrain to avoid sightlines from the basin. This route is popular because it minimizes early AI aggro and preserves shields for the objective interaction. The downside is predictability, since experienced squads pre-aim the final rock bend where players naturally slow down.

The western slope sees less traffic but more aggressive players. Anyone coming uphill from the lowlands is usually hunting, not questing, and they’ll abuse the sun glare you already had to manage earlier. If you spot movement here, assume high DPS builds and fast push timings rather than cautious peeking.
High-Risk Ambush Zones You Can’t Ignore
The rock shelf just below the Keeping the Memory interaction point is the most lethal ambush spot in Formicai Hills. Players crouch here to let AI patrols mask their presence, then third-party the moment you’re animation-locked. Grenades are especially common because the blast radius bounces cleanly off the surrounding stone.
Another danger zone is the narrow northern descent toward safer extractions. Raiders often wait until they hear ARC units re-aggro on you, then swing while your stamina is drained from climbing. If you hear combat behind you during extraction, it’s usually bait meant to force a turn and break your momentum.
Timing Windows: When PvP Pressure Peaks
PvP activity spikes two to three minutes into a raid as squads rotate from early loot paths into mid-map objectives. If you reach Formicai Hills during this window, expect overlapping patrols and at least one other team shadowing the area. This is the worst time to interact unless you’ve already cleared nearby sightlines.
A second danger window opens late, when players abandon failed objectives and sprint for extraction. These raiders are desperate, low on resources, and more willing to trade. If you complete Keeping the Memory late, delay your exit slightly and listen for firefights elsewhere before committing to a visible downhill run.
Playing the Objective Without Broadcasting Your Position
The Keeping the Memory interaction is a PvP magnet because it hard-locks you and generates subtle audio tells. Smart players wait for ARC patrols to path close, using their noise to mask footsteps. Before interacting, clear at least one flank and position your camera to watch the most likely push angle.
If you’re solo, commit fast and move immediately after completion. Lingering to loot nearby containers almost always gets punished here. Squads should stagger positioning, with one player watching the eastern approach and another covering vertical movement from below, because Formicai Hills favors vertical flanks more than horizontal ones.
Extraction Strategies After Completing the Objective (Low-Risk Exits and Backup Plans)
Once Keeping the Memory is complete at Formicai Hills, your priority shifts from stealth to momentum. This location sits in a vertical choke between mid-map loot paths and northern extraction lanes, meaning hesitation gets punished fast. You’re now carrying quest value, and every nearby raider knows this area funnels traffic.
Primary Exit: Northern Descent With Patrol Cover
The safest default exit is the northern downhill route, but only if you leave immediately after the interaction. ARC patrols often re-path through this corridor, which sounds dangerous but actually works in your favor by masking footsteps and suppressing aggressive pushes. Stick close to the rock wall on the left side to minimize sightlines from above.
Avoid sprinting the entire descent. Bursting stamina here drains your options if a squad commits, and the terrain punishes panic movement with poor hitbox angles. Walk it, listen, and only sprint when you break line of sight near the lower ridge.
Secondary Exit: Eastward Rotation Into Delayed Extraction
If the northern path is hot or you hear unsuppressed fire ahead, rotate east instead of forcing the choke. This route takes longer but breaks contact with the highest PvP density and lets other squads reveal themselves first. It’s especially strong if you completed the objective during the late danger window.
Use elevation drops to reset aggro from ARC units rather than fighting them. The AI here has predictable leash behavior, and dragging them into open ground often exposes trailing players. You’re not farming DPS anymore; you’re buying time.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsEmergency Plan: Breaking Contact When Contested
If you’re pushed immediately after finishing the interaction, don’t hold Formicai Hills. The terrain favors attackers collapsing downhill, and trading here usually attracts third parties. Smoke or stagger grenades are best used defensively to create space, not to secure downs.
Drop elevation fast and rotate unpredictably. Even a short detour can desync enemy audio cues, especially if ARC units re-aggro on them instead of you. Survival here is about denying clean information, not winning the fight.
Solo vs Squad Extraction Adjustments
Solo players should commit to the fastest clean exit and avoid all optional loot. Your advantage is lower noise and faster decision-making, so lean into it. Any delay increases the odds that someone tracks your interaction timing.
Squads should designate a rear anchor during extraction. One player watching vertical flanks while the others move prevents easy wipes from cliffside angles. If contact happens, peel together instead of trading, because Formicai Hills punishes split positioning.
