Treat it as a detailed mechanics and completion guide—not an official Sony source—and confirm whether each page applies to the original PS3 release or the 2020 PS5 remake.
What the Demon’s Souls Wiki covers
The Demon’s Souls English Wiki is a community-maintained Wikidot reference for FromSoftware’s action RPG. Its most useful material is not a basic plot summary but the detailed information that is easy to miss in-game: World Tendency, Character Tendency, NPC events, weapon upgrade paths, boss-soul weapons, farming conditions, and multiplayer interactions.
It is an independent reference, not an official Sony, PlayStation, FromSoftware, or Bluepoint Games publication. Search results may also show a Fandom database and Game8’s PS5 walkthrough-and-guides database. Those are alternative or complementary resources, not different official editions of the same wiki.
Which version of Demon’s Souls does the wiki cover?
There are two releases that readers commonly mean:
| Version | Platform and date | Why the distinction matters |
|---|---|---|
| Original Demon’s Souls | PlayStation 3; first released in Japan in February 2009 | Original visuals, equipment presentation, balance details, online behavior, and possible exploits may differ from the remake. |
| Demon’s Souls remake | PlayStation 5; released in November 2020 during the PS5 launch period | Rebuilt from the ground up by PlayStation Studios and Bluepoint Games, with remake-specific presentation and system features. |
Sony’s official Demon’s Souls page identifies the remake as a PS5 game and describes features including two graphics modes, fast loading, DualSense haptic feedback, and Tempest 3D AudioTech with compatible headphones. Those official product details should not be treated as evidence that every mechanic on a community wiki is identical between releases.

- visual equipment differences and item locations;
- farming rewards and route efficiency;
- multiplayer and global-tendency behavior; and
- bugs, exploits, patches, and other version-specific interactions.
What you can find in the Demon’s Souls Wiki
Walkthroughs, areas, and bosses
The wiki organizes information around the game’s areas and progression, making it useful when a player is unsure where to go next or wants to check an area before entering it. Area pages can be used alongside boss pages to prepare for an encounter, identify nearby items, review NPC interactions, and avoid advancing a quest accidentally.
For a difficult first playthrough, search in this order:
- Open the area page and identify available paths, shortcuts, NPCs, and important items.
- Check the boss page before entering the fog gate, particularly if the boss soul may be needed for a weapon, spell, or other unlock.
- Review the NPC and tendency-event pages before killing an NPC, defeating a major boss, or changing the area’s tendency.
- Return to the item or weapon page to confirm that the reward is actually useful for the build you are planning.
This approach is safer than searching only for a boss weakness, because a boss victory can also change the state of an area and affect later planning.
Weapons, upgrades, armor, magic, and builds
The wiki’s weapons index provides categories, attribute-reading guidance, upgrade information, and boss-soul weapons. That distinction matters: a weapon may be a regular weapon with a normal upgrade path, a special weapon with unusual requirements, or an item made through a boss-soul conversion route.
Use the weapon pages to answer four questions before spending scarce materials:
- What attributes does the weapon use, and how does its scaling relate to the planned build?
- Which upgrade family does it follow?
- Does it require a special material or a boss soul?
- Is the page describing the PS3 version or the PS5 remake?
Game8’s Demon’s Souls guide database is useful when you want a more streamlined build, weapon, armor, magic, boss, or walkthrough guide. For exact values and unusual upgrade interactions, compare its advice with the Wikidot tables rather than assuming that a short build recommendation includes every condition.

NPCs, items, and missable content
NPC pages are particularly valuable because Demon’s Souls does not always make the consequences of an action obvious. Before progressing an NPC quest, check:
- where the NPC first appears and where they move afterward;
- which area or tendency state is required;
- whether the NPC can be killed or become unavailable;
- what reward or dialogue changes after the next major event; and
- whether the requirement involves World Tendency, Character Tendency, or both.
The same checklist applies to unusual items, tendency-gated doors, special weapons, and events that appear only during a particular world state. Do not assume that seeing an NPC in the Nexus means every associated event is now permanently safe to complete.
Farming and optimization
The wiki also contains farming information for players who need souls, upgrade materials, or specific drops. A farming route is not universally optimal. Its results can depend on the player’s build, current World Tendency, equipment effects, New Game cycle, and game version.
In particular, farming pages may distinguish conditions such as Pure Black World Tendency or equipment that changes the amount or quality of rewards. When comparing two routes, record the conditions rather than copying the route name alone:
| Condition to record | Why it changes the recommendation |
|---|---|
| Build and weapon | A route that is quick for a ranged or magic build may be inefficient or dangerous for a melee character. |
| World Tendency | Enemy strength, rewards, and available encounters can change with the world state. |
| Equipment effects | Some equipment affects farming efficiency or the value of a run. |
| New Game cycle | Enemy difficulty and the time required to defeat targets change between cycles. |
| Version | PS3 and PS5 behavior should not be merged without confirmation. |
World Tendency explained
World Tendency is a state attached to a particular world or area. It is one of the main reasons to use a Demon’s Souls wiki: the game does not explain every threshold, event, or consequence clearly enough to plan a completion-focused playthrough without outside reference material.
Recommended Free Tools
The system includes White, Black, and intermediate states. In broad terms:
- White World Tendency: generally makes enemies easier and can open friendly NPC events, paths, weapons, or items.
- Black World Tendency: generally makes enemies more dangerous while improving the value or quantity of some rewards and enabling different encounters.
- Intermediate states: can matter because an event may require more than simply “not Black” or “not White.”
These descriptions are only a starting point. The exact thresholds and event triggers should be taken from the wiki’s World Tendency tables for the version being played. Do not infer a precise result from the color labels alone.

When tendency changes take effect
The wiki documents that a World Tendency change registers when the player returns to the Nexus. A practical procedure is:
- Write down the area and its current tendency before making a consequential choice.
- Open the relevant tendency-event table and identify the exact desired state.
- Complete any event that must happen at the current state before taking an action that may shift it.
- Return to the Nexus so the change registers.
- Recheck the world before continuing with a tendency-dependent route.
World Tendency carries into New Game+, so a late-playthrough state can affect planning beyond the current cycle. Multiplayer activity, summoning, invasions, player deaths, and boss kills can also interact with tendency behavior. Because network behavior and server implementation can vary, treat online instructions as version- and network-specific rather than universal rules.
How not to lose a tendency event
Before attempting a White or Black World Tendency event, avoid making unrelated changes in that world until you have checked the table. Do not kill an NPC, defeat a boss, die repeatedly, or enter multiplayer without knowing whether that action affects the target state. If you are following an online tendency method, confirm that the guide was written for the same release and current network conditions.
The safest wiki workflow is to use the World Tendency page together with the area page and the relevant NPC or item page. One page may explain the state change, another may list the event, and a third may identify the reward.
Character Tendency is a separate system
Character Tendency belongs to the player character, not to an individual world. The Character Tendency reference documents how the alignment changes and how it affects the character and certain weapons.
| System | Attached to | Typical reason to check it |
|---|---|---|
| World Tendency | A particular world or area | Area difficulty, world events, paths, NPC appearances, and world-specific rewards. |
| Character Tendency | The player character | Character-related events, alignment requirements, and the behavior or scaling of certain weapons. |
Changing one system does not automatically produce the same result in the other. If an event, NPC, or weapon appears to require “White” or “Black” alignment, verify which tendency the requirement names. For a tendency-gated objective, consult both pages and check the version-specific tables instead of relying on the color terminology alone.
A reliable way to use the wiki
For a first playthrough
- Choose the version filter or label first. Confirm whether the page is for PS3, PS5, or both.
- Use area pages for orientation. Find shortcuts, NPCs, items, and progression points before looking up a boss solution.
- Search NPCs before making irreversible choices. This is the easiest way to avoid missing tendency or quest content.
- Keep tendency notes. Record the world, current state, last major action, and the event you are trying to unlock.
- Check weapons before committing resources. Confirm attributes, upgrade route, materials, and whether a boss soul is involved.
- Use farming pages only with their conditions. Copy the route together with its tendency, equipment, build, and New Game assumptions.
For trophy or completion planning
Start with the item, spell, miracle, weapon, and NPC pages rather than attempting to reconstruct requirements after finishing the game. Mark rewards that require a boss soul, events that depend on a particular tendency, and content that may be unavailable after an NPC dies or a world advances.

When two guides disagree, compare the underlying table and conditions. A disagreement may come from different versions, a different New Game cycle, an intermediate tendency threshold, an online method, or an assumption that the reader has already completed another event.
For build planning
Use the weapons index to shortlist equipment, then compare attribute requirements, scaling, upgrade materials, and special conversion paths. Next, check the build and weapon guides on a second database such as Game8 for a readable route. Finally, return to the detailed wiki page for exact requirements and version notes.
PS5 remake setup and online requirements
If you are choosing between editions, the original game is the PS3 release, while the rebuilt remake is the PS5 product. Readers shopping specifically for the remake should search for Demon’s Souls PS5 and confirm regional availability and the exact edition before buying. Existing PS5 owners do not need to purchase another console for the game.
The remake’s platform requirements and feature claims should come from Sony’s official product information:
- A PS5 console is the platform identified for the remake.
- Sony lists two graphics modes. A compatible 4K gaming TV or monitor is optional if you want the remake’s 4K presentation; it is not required to play.
- Tempest 3D AudioTech is supported with PS5 3D audio headphones that are compatible with the console. Headphones are optional, not a gameplay requirement.
- PlayStation Plus is required for online play, while online play itself is optional.
Hardware availability, retailer inventory, regional editions, and prices change, so verify those details immediately before purchase. A community wiki can explain how online or tendency mechanics work, but it cannot establish current retail stock or official platform policy.
Buying disclosure: Optional product references in this setup section may be monetized. They are not required for the wiki’s mechanics advice and do not change the recommendations.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. What the wiki is—and is not
The Wikidot reference is strongest when you need breadth and interconnected details: tendency tables, area events, NPC requirements, weapon data, boss rewards, item locations, and farming conditions. It is less appropriate as the sole authority for current platform availability, official PS5 features, retailer stock, or network-service policy.

Use the sources for their appropriate jobs:
- Official PlayStation information: PS5 platform, remake identity, graphics and audio features, and PS Plus requirements.
- Demon’s Souls English Wiki: detailed mechanics, tendency tables, NPCs, weapons, bosses, items, farming, and multiplayer reference material.
- Game8 or another independent guide: readable walkthroughs and build explanations that can help interpret the detailed tables.
That separation prevents the most common research error: treating a PS3 mechanic, a PS5 remake guide, and an online-server method as though they were interchangeable.

Quick reference checklist
- Am I playing the PS3 original or the PS5 remake?
- Is this page labeled for that version?
- Does the objective involve World Tendency, Character Tendency, or both?
- Have I checked the area and NPC pages before changing the world state?
- Will the action change after returning to the Nexus?
- Does the weapon use a normal, special, or boss-soul upgrade path?
- Are the farming route’s build, tendency, equipment, and New Game assumptions relevant to me?
- If the method uses multiplayer, does it match the current version and network context?
Bottom line
The Demon’s Souls English Wiki is best used as a deep planning reference, especially for World Tendency, Character Tendency, NPC events, weapons, bosses, items, and farming. Begin with the version label, use the tendency tables instead of guessing from White or Black terminology, and cross-check consequential values against a second guide. For PS5 platform and feature information, rely on Sony’s official page rather than the community wiki.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is the Demon’s Souls Wiki official?
The exact-title result is the independent Demon’s Souls English Wiki hosted on Wikidot. It is not published or officially endorsed by Sony, PlayStation, FromSoftware, or Bluepoint Games. Fandom and Game8 offer alternative guide databases.
Does the Demon’s Souls Wiki cover the PS5 remake?
It covers the original PS3 game and has extensive information useful to PS5 remake players, but pages and mechanics should be checked for version labels. The remake was rebuilt for PS5, so equipment, values, exploits, visuals, and online behavior should not automatically be assumed identical.

What is the difference between World Tendency and Character Tendency?
World Tendency belongs to a particular world or area and affects its difficulty, events, paths, NPCs, and rewards. Character Tendency belongs to the player character and affects character-related requirements and certain weapons. One does not automatically substitute for the other.
How do I use the wiki without missing a tendency event?
Use the wiki’s exact World Tendency tables for the version you are playing. Record the current state, complete any event that depends on it, and return to the Nexus so changes register before continuing.
The Bottom Line
The Demon’s Souls English Wiki is a community reference rather than an official source, but it is exceptionally useful for tendency events, NPC planning, weapons, bosses, items, and farming. Check the PS3-versus-PS5 label first, keep World Tendency separate from Character Tendency, and verify current platform and online details with PlayStation.
