Quest overview and prerequisites
Fia’s questline begins in Roundtable Hold and ends in Deeproot Depths. To complete it, you must follow the Night of Black Knives investigation through Sorcerer Rogier, deliver Fia’s Weathered Dagger to D, advance Ranni’s quest far enough to obtain the Carian Inverted Statue, collect the Cursemark of Death from the Divine Tower of Liurnia, and defeat Lichdragon Fortissax in the Deathbed Dream.
The reward is the Mending Rune of the Death-Prince. It unlocks the Age of the Duskborn ending option after the final boss, but it does not force you to choose that ending.

1. Meet Fia in Roundtable Hold
Fia is in the room adjacent to Smithing Master Hewg in Roundtable Hold. Speak with her and accept her embrace if you want to begin her dialogue chain.
Fia’s embrace gives you Baldachin’s Blessing. Using the blessing removes its temporary HP-reduction effect, so consume it if you are not planning to use the blessing’s other effect. Accepting the embrace does not permanently lock you into Fia’s quest or end it prematurely.
2. Advance Rogier’s Night of Black Knives investigation
Continue Sorcerer Rogier’s storyline until he discusses the Night of Black Knives. After that conversation, speak with Fia again when her related dialogue is available. She gives you the Knifeprint Clue.

- Travel to Black Knife Catacombs.
- Defeat the Black Knife Assassin there.
- Take the Black Knifeprint.
- Return to Roundtable Hold and give it to Rogier.
- Exhaust Rogier’s subsequent dialogue.
- Speak with Fia again when her related conversation becomes available.
Do not treat the Black Knifeprint as Fia’s final objective. It advances the investigation that leads to her next item and keeps the two questlines connected.
3. Accept Fia’s Weathered Dagger
After the required progression trigger, return to Fia in Roundtable Hold. This trigger is commonly reached by entering or advancing through Altus Plateau; some progression routes and guides also associate it with the Radahn Festival. Because the exact trigger can vary with the order in which you complete other content, return to Fia after a major progression milestone if she has not offered this dialogue yet.
Fia asks you to return a Weathered Dagger to its rightful owner. Accept the dagger.

4. Give the dagger to D and trigger the corpse scene
Find D, Hunter of the Dead, in Roundtable Hold and give him the Weathered Dagger. Then reload the area by resting or otherwise returning after the area refreshes.
A previously inaccessible room beyond the main Roundtable Hold corridor will open. Fia is inside beside D’s corpse. Speak with Fia and exhaust her dialogue. She then leaves Roundtable Hold, and the next part of her story takes place in Deeproot Depths.
5. Reach Deeproot Depths
There are two relevant ways to reach Deeproot Depths:
- From Siofra Aqueduct: Defeat the Valiant Gargoyles, then use the coffin beyond the encounter.
- From the subterranean route connected to Leyndell: Follow the underground route into Deeproot Depths.
You may use either route. However, reaching Deeproot Depths does not replace the Ranni and Carian Study Hall steps. Fia’s later progression still requires the Cursemark of Death, which comes from the Divine Tower of Liurnia.

Travel through Deeproot Depths to the Prince of Death’s Throne. On the way, defeat Fia’s Champions. After the fight, rest at the nearby Site of Grace before continuing to Fia’s location near Godwyn’s corpse.
6. Speak with Fia and learn about the Cursemark
Talk to Fia after defeating her Champions. When she offers to hold you, choose the dialogue equivalent to No, I want to be held. If you initially choose the other response, you can generally speak with her again and revisit the conversation rather than permanently failing the quest.
While Fia is holding you, select Talk in secret and exhaust every available conversation. Fia explains the significance of the Cursemark of Death and points you toward the next stage.
7. Advance Ranni’s quest and obtain the Carian Inverted Statue
Progress through Ranni’s questline until Ranni gives you the Carian Inverted Statue. This is a functional prerequisite for Fia’s Cursemark stage even though Ranni’s and Fia’s quests are separate NPC storylines.
Take the statue to Carian Study Hall in eastern Liurnia. Place it on the pedestal inside the study hall. The building changes into its inverted configuration, opening a new route through the area.
Traverse the inverted study hall and continue to the Divine Tower of Liurnia. At the top, retrieve the Cursemark of Death from Ranni’s corpse.
8. Give the Cursemark to Fia
Return to Fia in Deeproot Depths, at the Prince of Death’s Throne. Speak with her until the option to give her the Cursemark of Death appears, then hand it over.
Exhaust Fia’s dialogue and reload the area. After the reload, Fia will eventually be asleep. Her sleeping body is the entrance to the quest’s boss encounter.
9. Enter the Deathbed Dream
Interact with Fia’s sleeping body and choose Enter the Deathbed Dream. You are transported into the encounter with Lichdragon Fortissax.
Entering the dream is not a normal conversation or a preview. It starts the boss fight, so prepare your equipment and consumables before interacting with Fia.
10. Defeat Lichdragon Fortissax
Defeat Lichdragon Fortissax in the Deathbed Dream. The fight is optional in the broader game, but it is the required combat climax of Fia’s storyline.
After the victory, return from the dream and go back to Fia’s location. The rewards become available at the end of this sequence.
11. Collect the Mending Rune of the Death-Prince
Loot Fia’s body at the Prince of Death’s Throne to receive the Mending Rune of the Death-Prince. Fia’s associated equipment rewards are also available at this final stage of the storyline.
The rune is the item that enables the Age of the Duskborn ending option. It does not automatically select that ending, alter your ending choice immediately, or prevent you from choosing another ending whose requirements you have fulfilled.

D’s brother, Devin, can be found near the Siofra Aqueduct and the Valiant Gargoyles area. This optional branch must be set up before completing the final Deeproot sequence.
- Find D’s brother near the Siofra Aqueduct and Valiant Gargoyles area.
- Give him the Twinned Armor.
- Complete Fia’s Deeproot sequence, including her death.
- Reload the area.
- Return to Fia’s body. D’s brother can appear over it.
This outcome provides additional dialogue, lets you recover the Twinned Armor, and awards the Inseparable Sword. It is not required for the Mending Rune of the Death-Prince or for the Age of the Duskborn ending option.

- Give the Cursemark to Fia and exhaust her dialogue.
- Reload, enter the Deathbed Dream, and defeat Lichdragon Fortissax.
- Loot Fia’s body for the Mending Rune of the Death-Prince.
- If desired, complete D’s brother’s Twinned Armor branch.
Fia questline troubleshooting

Frequently Asked Questions
Does accepting Fia’s embrace lock me into her quest?
No. Fia’s initial embrace and Baldachin’s Blessing do not irreversibly end or lock the quest. Accept the embrace to begin her dialogue chain, and consume the blessing if you want to remove its temporary HP-reduction effect.
Do I need to complete Ranni’s quest for Fia’s storyline?
Yes, for the Cursemark stage. You must advance Ranni’s quest until you receive the Carian Inverted Statue, use it in Carian Study Hall, and take the Cursemark of Death from the Divine Tower of Liurnia.
Does the Mending Rune automatically give me the Age of the Duskborn ending?
No. The Mending Rune of the Death-Prince adds the Age of the Duskborn option to the ending interaction after the final boss. You can still select another ending if you have met its requirements.
Why can’t I progress Fia’s dialogue in Deeproot Depths?
The most common causes are that Fia’s Champions have not been defeated, you have not rested afterward, or you have not exhausted the conversation while being held. Check those steps before returning to the Cursemark objective.

Is D’s brother required for Fia’s quest?
No. Giving the Twinned Armor to D’s brother and obtaining the Inseparable Sword is optional. It does not affect your ability to obtain the Mending Rune or unlock Age of the Duskborn.
The Bottom Line
Complete Fia’s chain by delivering the Cursemark of Death, entering the Deathbed Dream, defeating Lichdragon Fortissax, and looting Fia’s body for the Mending Rune of the Death-Prince. The rune unlocks the Age of the Duskborn choice after the final boss; it does not force that ending. D’s brother and the Twinned Armor are an optional branch.
