The PlayStation 30th Anniversary Collection is no longer in its original pre-order period. Sony’s pre-orders ran in September and October 2024, with release on November 21, 2024. Current shoppers may still find limited official inventory, cancellations, or resale listings, but they should verify the exact product, seller, condition, and contents before paying a collector premium.
The original pre-order window for Sony’s PlayStation 30th Anniversary Collection has passed. Sony announced pre-orders in September and October 2024, followed by a November 21, 2024 release. As of August 12, 2026, Sony’s official pages still document the collection and describe availability as limited, while the official PlayStation Direct route for the anniversary PS5 Pro currently shows an unavailable or sold-out result.
That does not mean every item has disappeared. Cancellations, residual retailer inventory, and secondary-market listings may still appear, but shoppers should verify each listing rather than assume that a search result represents new official stock. The collection includes five products: a numbered PS5 Pro bundle, a slim digital PS5 bundle, two standalone DualSense controllers, and a matching PlayStation Portal.
What is in the PlayStation 30th Anniversary Collection?
| Product | What it is | Best for | Important caveat |
|---|---|---|---|
| PlayStation 5 Pro 30th Anniversary Limited Edition Bundle | Numbered PS5 Pro bundle with two controllers and collector accessories | Collectors and buyers who want the flagship anniversary package | Digital-only console; the disc drive is sold separately |
| PlayStation 5 Digital Edition 30th Anniversary Limited Edition Bundle | Slim digital PS5 bundle with matching accessories | Collectors who want the console design at a lower tier than the Pro bundle | The included disc-drive cover is not a disc drive |
| DualSense Wireless Controller 30th Anniversary Limited Edition | Standalone PS5 wireless controller in the original PlayStation-inspired colors | Fans who want the look without buying a console | Limited-edition stock and resale pricing vary |
| DualSense Edge Wireless Controller 30th Anniversary Limited Edition | Premium, customizable DualSense Edge controller | Players who want Edge features with the anniversary design | Also included with the PS5 Pro anniversary bundle |
| PlayStation Portal 30th Anniversary Limited Edition | Matching remote player for compatible PS5 and PS4 games | PS5 owners who want to play around the home | It is not a standalone handheld console |
Release and pre-order dates
Sony created the collection to mark 30 years since the original PlayStation launched on December 3, 1994. The products use the gray color scheme and design details associated with the first PlayStation.

PS5 Pro 30th Anniversary bundle: the centerpiece
The PS5 Pro bundle is the collection’s most restricted product. Sony said that only 12,300 individually numbered consoles would be available globally. The number references December 3, the month and day of the original PlayStation launch.
That 12,300-unit figure applies to the anniversary PS5 Pro bundle. It should not be repeated as though it describes every product in the collection; Sony did not announce a matching global production quantity for the slim PS5 Digital Edition bundle, the controllers, or the Portal in the supplied collection announcement.
What the PS5 Pro bundle includes
- Limited-edition PS5 Pro console
- Limited-edition DualSense Edge wireless controller
- Limited-edition DualSense wireless controller
- Limited-edition DualSense charging station
- Limited-edition console cover for the disc drive
- Limited-edition vertical stand
- 2TB SSD
- HDMI cable, USB cable, and AC power cord
- Original PlayStation controller-style cable connector housing
- Four PlayStation Shapes cable ties
- PlayStation sticker
- Limited-edition PlayStation poster, with one of 30 possible designs
- PlayStation paperclip
- Astro’s Playroom pre-installed
The disc-drive warning matters
The anniversary PS5 Pro is digital-only. The bundle includes a matching cover for the optional disc drive, but it does not include the drive itself. Buyers who want to use physical PS5 or PS4 discs must purchase a compatible PS5 Disc Drive separately. Sony also says an internet connection is required to pair the add-on drive with the console during setup.
This is one of the easiest ways for a collector listing to become more expensive than expected: a seller may accurately advertise the included disc-drive cover while a buyer assumes the optical drive is in the box. Check the box contents before paying a premium.
Is the PS5 Pro bundle a good value?
It combines genuine collector appeal—numbered hardware and a restricted production run—with practical extras including a 2TB SSD, two controllers, a charging station, and a vertical stand. However, the ordinary PS5 Pro launch MSRP of $699.99 is only a baseline for the standard console. It does not establish the anniversary bundle’s original price, current resale value, or whether a particular listing is fairly priced.

For a current purchase, compare the complete contents, serial-number claims, condition, seller history, return policy, and warranty treatment. Do not treat an inflated resale price as proof that the bundle is a sound investment.
PS5 Digital Edition 30th Anniversary bundle
The slim PS5 Digital Edition bundle is the more accessible console-shaped collector item. It includes the limited-edition digital console, matching DualSense wireless controller, console cover for an optional disc drive, vertical stand, PlayStation-themed cable connector housing, four cable ties, sticker, poster, and paperclip.
It is distinct from the PS5 Pro bundle in several ways. It is a slim PS5 Digital Edition rather than a Pro, it does not carry the Pro bundle’s stated 12,300-unit global quantity, and its included accessories do not turn it into a disc-based console. As with the Pro, the optional disc drive is sold separately.
Which 30th Anniversary controller should you buy?
DualSense Wireless Controller
The regular 30th Anniversary DualSense is the simplest way to get the collection’s gray-and-black original-PlayStation styling. It is sold as a standalone wireless controller and works as the natural entry point for fans who already own a PS5 or do not want to buy a limited-edition console.
Commerce check: If you want the anniversary look without hunting for a complete console bundle, check current listings for the PlayStation 30th Anniversary DualSense Wireless Controller. Stock, seller, condition, and pricing can vary, particularly when a marketplace listing is supplied by a third party rather than the retailer itself.
DualSense Edge
The 30th Anniversary DualSense Edge is the premium-controller option. It combines the commemorative design with the DualSense Edge platform’s performance and personalization positioning. It is also part of the PS5 Pro anniversary bundle, so standalone listings may be especially attractive to owners who want the controller but not another console.

- Slim Design, players get powerful gaming technology packed inside a sleek and compact console design.
- 825GB of storage, keep your favorite games ready and waiting for you to jump in and play.
- Ultra-High Speed SSD, maximize your play sessions with near instant load times for installed PS5 games.
- Feel physically responsive feedback to your in-game actions through haptic feedback.
- Experience varying levels of force and tension at your fingertips with adaptive triggers.
Before buying, confirm that the listing is for the DualSense Edge, not the regular DualSense. The names are similar, but they are different products and different price tiers.
PlayStation Portal 30th Anniversary: what it can and cannot do
The 30th Anniversary PlayStation Portal is a limited-edition version of Sony’s remote player. It requires a PS5 and a PlayStation account; it is not a handheld console that runs games independently.
Portal can play compatible PS5 and PS4 games installed on the paired PS5 over a home Wi-Fi connection. Supported games can use DualSense features such as haptic feedback and adaptive triggers. Sony specifies at least 5Mbps broadband for use and recommends at least 15Mbps for a better experience, but actual performance depends on the home network, connection quality, distance from the router, and the game being played.
Sony also documents cloud streaming for selected PS5 games for PlayStation Plus Premium members, subject to the applicable service terms, catalog, region, and account requirements. That does not change the basic buying advice: Portal is primarily an accessory for someone who already has a PS5 and wants to use it elsewhere around the home.

How to shop for one now without overpaying
- Start with Sony’s official collection and product pages. Use them to confirm the product name, specifications, box contents, and whether an official listing is available.
- Identify the exact product. “30th Anniversary PS5” can refer to the numbered PS5 Pro bundle or the slim PS5 Digital Edition bundle. “30th Anniversary controller” can refer to the regular DualSense or the DualSense Edge.
- Separate official inventory from resale inventory. A marketplace search result is not the same as stock sold directly by Sony or an authorized retailer.
- Check condition. Confirm whether the item is new, sealed, used, refurbished, open-box, or merely a pre-order placeholder.
- Verify the contents. For the Pro, look specifically for both controllers, the charging station, stand, poster, numbered console, and the other listed accessories. Confirm that the disc drive is not being mistakenly represented as included.
- Review seller and transaction protections. Check feedback, returns, shipping insurance, payment protections, warranty treatment, and whether the seller clearly states what is in the box.
- Be skeptical of scarcity claims. Claims about a specific number, sealed condition, or “official retailer stock” need to be supported by the actual listing and seller information.
- Compare the total cost. Include shipping, taxes, marketplace fees where applicable, and the separate disc drive if physical games are important to you.
Should you buy official stock or resale?
| Option | Advantages | Risks |
|---|---|---|
| Sony or authorized retailer | Clearer provenance, standard return and warranty policies, and less uncertainty about contents | Limited or unavailable stock |
| Reputable marketplace seller | May be the only route to a sold-out item or a particular numbered unit | Premium pricing, counterfeit or incomplete listings, unclear warranty coverage |
| Used or open-box listing | Potentially lower cost and a way to find discontinued hardware | Missing accessories, wear, account or hardware issues, and reduced return protection |
A resale listing is not automatically bad, but it deserves a different standard of verification. Ask for photographs of the actual item and packaging when appropriate, confirm the serial-number and contents claims, and avoid paying a collector premium for a listing that does not identify its condition clearly.

Best choice by type of buyer
- Choose the PS5 Pro bundle if you want the most complete collector package, value the numbered console, and understand that the disc drive is extra.
- Choose the slim PS5 Digital Edition bundle if the anniversary console design matters more than owning the highest-performance model.
- Choose the regular DualSense if you want the strongest balance of recognizable design, practical use, and lower commitment than a console bundle.
- Choose the DualSense Edge if you specifically want the premium Edge controller platform as well as the anniversary styling.
- Choose Portal if you already own a PS5, have reliable Wi-Fi, and want a matching remote-play device rather than a standalone gaming handheld.
Bottom line
The PlayStation 30th Anniversary Collection remains an appealing mix of nostalgia and modern PS5 hardware, but the headline should no longer be read as a fresh pre-order alert. The original pre-orders took place in 2024 and the announced release date was November 21, 2024. In the current market, availability must be verified listing by listing.
The numbered PS5 Pro bundle is the centerpiece, but it is digital-only and its disc drive is an extra purchase. The slim Digital Edition bundle is the more approachable console collectible. For most fans, the standalone 30th Anniversary DualSense is the simplest entry point; Portal makes sense only for existing PS5 owners who understand Remote Play and network requirements.
Frequently Asked Questions
Are PlayStation 30th Anniversary Collection pre-orders live now?
No. Sony’s announced pre-orders took place on September 26 and October 10, 2024, and the collection released on November 21, 2024. As of August 12, 2026, official pages may still show limited availability, but that should not be described as a newly opened pre-order window.
How many PS5 Pro 30th Anniversary consoles were made?
Sony stated that 12,300 individually numbered consoles would be available globally for the 30th Anniversary PS5 Pro bundle. That figure does not automatically apply to the slim PS5 Digital Edition bundle, DualSense controllers, or PlayStation Portal.
Does the 30th Anniversary PS5 Pro include a disc drive?
No. The bundle includes a limited-edition cover for the optional disc drive, but the actual disc drive is sold separately. An internet connection is required to pair the add-on drive with the console during setup.
Can PlayStation Portal play games without a PS5?
No. PlayStation Portal requires a PS5 and PlayStation account. It is designed to play compatible PS5 and PS4 games through Remote Play over Wi-Fi, with cloud streaming for selected PS5 games available to eligible PlayStation Plus Premium members subject to Sony’s requirements.
The Bottom Line
Best practical buy: the standalone 30th Anniversary DualSense, if you can find a legitimate listing at a reasonable price. Best collector package: the numbered PS5 Pro bundle, provided you account for its digital-only design and verify every included item. The original pre-order window is over, so treat current listings as official inventory or resale inventory—not as newly opened pre-orders—until confirmed.
