1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsThe REDMAGIC 9 Pro is a high-performance gaming specialist, not a balanced camera flagship. Its Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chip, active ICE 13 cooling, 120 Hz AMOLED display, shoulder triggers, and 6,500 mAh battery make it particularly compelling for demanding mobile games, emulation, and long sessions. The costs are a heavy 229 g body, an audible fan, mediocre selfie photography, and less certainty around software support than the safest mainstream alternatives.
Verdict: The REDMAGIC 9 Pro is a specialist gaming phone with excellent sustained performance, a huge battery, useful shoulder controls, and enthusiast-friendly ports. It is a weaker choice if you want flagship-level cameras, a compact phone, or the most polished and predictable Android software-support experience.
Who should buy the REDMAGIC 9 Pro?
Buy the REDMAGIC 9 Pro if your priorities are demanding Android games, emulation, long sessions, high touch responsiveness, and hardware controls. Its Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 processor, active cooling fan, 120 Hz AMOLED display, 6,500 mAh battery, 3.5 mm headphone jack, and capacitive shoulder triggers make it unusually well suited to serious mobile gaming.
It is less convincing as an all-purpose flagship. The 229 g body is heavy, the built-in fan can be audible, and the cameras—especially the under-display selfie camera—are clearly secondary to the gaming hardware. Mainstream rivals are generally safer choices for photography, compact ergonomics, and long-term software confidence.

Gaming performance: the reason to buy it
The REDMAGIC 9 Pro uses Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Gen 3, paired with REDMAGIC’s Red Core 2 Pro gaming component. That is flagship-class silicon, but the more important feature for long sessions is how the phone manages heat.
#1 Best Overall
- ENHANCED HEATSINK FOR FASTER COOLING – Built with a larger internal heatsink (1 × 1 inch), this phone radiator delivers significantly improved heat dissipation compared to standard models. The aluminum alloy thermal core accelerates cooling efficiency, helping maintain stable device performance even during long gaming or streaming sessions.
- STRONG MAGNETIC ATTACHMENT & OPTIONAL STICKER SUPPORT – Designed with high-strength magnetic suction, this cooler securely attaches to the back of compatible devices. For phones or tablets without built-in magnets, it includes magnetic stickers to ensure firm attachment—especially useful during intense gaming or extended usage.
- DETACHABLE CLIP WITH CLOUD CONNECTION PORT – The adjustable clip-on arm expands up to 4 inches (10 cm) and now features an added port for connecting to a cloud gaming platform, making it easier to pair with gamepads or streaming accessories. Whether clipped or magnet-mounted, it offers a reliable hold on iPhone, Android, and tablet devices.
- 3 FAN SPEEDS WITH RGB TEMP DISPLAY – Offers three fan speed modes and a digital screen that displays real-time cooling temperature. The integrated RGB lighting reacts to temperature levels while maintaining low-noise operation, ensuring immersive gameplay, streaming, or calls without disturbance.
- PERFECT FOR GAMING, VIDEO CALLS, AND CREATIVE USE – Simply plug in the included Type-C cable to activate cooling. Whether gaming, broadcasting live, video conferencing, or vlogging, this compact cooler helps prevent thermal throttling and keeps your device cool and responsive throughout intensive use.
Its ICE 13 cooling system combines an active centrifugal fan rated by REDMAGIC at 22,000 RPM with an air duct, dual-pump vapor chamber, under-screen copper and graphene, conductive materials, and an aerospace-aluminum mid-frame. These are manufacturer-described components rather than independent measurements, but they explain the phone’s gaming-first design.
Independent testing found very high stability in repeated 3DMark Extreme loops. Review testing also observed demanding games such as Genshin Impact and Diablo Immortal running at high settings around 60 frames per second deep into a session without major frame drops. That result should not be treated as a guarantee for every title: frame rates depend on the game, graphics settings, ambient temperature, firmware, and whether the device is charging. Still, the evidence supports the 9 Pro’s central promise: it is built to sustain performance, not merely produce a short benchmark peak.
The trade-off is sound. The physical fan is audible under load, so it can be noticeable in a quiet room or when playing without headphones. You can use the phone without activating the fan, but doing so gives up part of the cooling system that distinguishes it from a conventional flagship.
Shoulder triggers and Game Space
Two capacitive shoulder triggers sit on the phone’s edge and support a 520 Hz touch-sampling rate. They can be mapped to in-game actions, allowing you to aim, fire, jump, or trigger another command without lifting a thumb from the main display. That is particularly useful in shooters, where separating aiming and firing can make the touch layout less crowded.
A dedicated Game Space switch opens the phone’s gaming interface. The gaming tools include trigger customization and performance controls, while customizable RGB lighting adds the expected gaming-phone styling. These features are not essential for casual play, but they make a practical difference if you regularly play competitive shooters or other games with complex touch controls.
The triggers are touch surfaces rather than mechanical buttons. That keeps the phone slim and avoids moving parts, but players who prefer the click and travel of physical controls may not find them as satisfying as a dedicated gamepad.

Display: large, flat, and fast enough for most players
The 6.8-inch FHD+ AMOLED display runs at up to 120 Hz and has a 2480 × 1116 resolution. It is flat, notch-free, and uses an under-display front camera to preserve an uninterrupted gaming and video area. REDMAGIC lists up to 1,600 nits of brightness and a 93.7% screen-to-body ratio.
The high touch-sampling figures matter more to gaming than the headline refresh rate. The panel can register rapid inputs quickly, while 120 Hz makes scrolling and supported games look smooth. It is not the fastest display available among gaming phones, but 120 Hz remains a strong practical target for Android gaming.
The large size is excellent for virtual controls, remote play, video, and reading game text. It also contributes to the phone’s less universal ergonomics: reaching across the screen with one hand is difficult, and the flat, angular design takes up more room in a pocket than a typical mainstream phone.
Battery life and 80 W charging
A 6,500 mAh dual-cell battery gives the REDMAGIC 9 Pro more capacity than most conventional flagship phones. TechRadar’s testing found it capable of a full day of intensive use and potentially two days with lighter workloads. Those are reviewer-specific results, not a guaranteed runtime: brightness, mobile signal, game type, refresh rate, background apps, and thermals all affect endurance.
The phone supports 80 W wired charging, and the official in-box contents list an 80 W charger. That makes it easier to recover from a long session without waiting as long as you would with a slower charger. Charging behavior can still vary by region and by the charger and cable used.
There is no wireless charging in the cited review coverage. That is a reasonable omission for a gaming phone, but it matters if you use a wireless charging stand or expect flagship-style convenience features.

- 【27W Power Upgrade】The all-new upgraded semiconductor variable frequency cooling technology drops the temperature to below zero in 30 seconds, offering more powerful cooling. The full-power 27W combines with a custom TEC cooling chip to achieve up to a 40°C drop, and cooling down to as low as -15°C. Say goodbye to overheating, black screens, and frame drops, and enjoy high-frame-rate gaming for a stable win.
- 【Smart Temperature Control】The magnetic phone cooler features dual NTC over-temperature protection, monitoring the internal temperature of the clip in real-time. It automatically shuts off when the temperature exceeds 60°C or drops below -15°C, extending the device’s lifespan and ensuring safer usage. The Shark Arsenal app provides constant monitoring, allowing manual control and smart temperature adjustment to prevent condensation inside the clip.
- 【Comfortable Gaming Experience】The Magnetic Cell Phone Cooler 4PRO introduces the industry's new magnetic attachment design with top and bottom air outlets, directing hot air away from your hands. Combined with the cooler’s low-noise design, it lets you enjoy uninterrupted gaming and fully unleash your skills. - 【Wide Compatibility】It comes with a detachable grip, offering both magnetic and clip-on usage options. Say goodbye to the compatibility issues of magnetic coolers. It is widely compatible with Android smartphones, iPhones, Switch, iPads, laptops, and more. Additionally, the upgraded copper nut design allows it to be mounted on gimbals and camera stands, making it suitable for various scenarios like live streaming and vlogging, providing more convenience.
- 【Quality Assurance】12-month warranty and 24-hour after-sales satisfaction solutions provided by the Black Shark after-sales service team. Package contents: Cooler x1, Type-C cable x1, User manual x1, RemovableGrips x2.
Ports and gaming-friendly extras
- 3.5 mm headphone jack: useful for wired gaming headsets, with no Bluetooth latency concerns or battery to recharge.
- USB 3.2 with DisplayPort: supports high-speed data and external-display use when paired with compatible equipment.
- Dual nano-SIM: useful for people who separate personal and travel or work lines, subject to local network compatibility.
- Large battery: better suited to long play and media sessions than a slim mainstream design.
- RGB lighting: primarily aesthetic, though it reinforces the gaming-phone identity.
USB-C video output and cellular compatibility depend on the connected display, cable, carrier, bands, and region. Do not assume that an imported handset will work identically to a local model.
Cameras: adequate rear cameras, compromised selfie camera
The rear system consists of a 50 MP main camera with optical image stabilization, a 50 MP ultrawide, and a 2 MP macro camera. The main camera can produce decent results in good light, and OIS helps with still-photo and video stability. The ultrawide is useful for fitting more into a frame, but reviewers found a visible gap in tone and dynamic range compared with the main camera.
The 2 MP macro camera is the least important of the three. It is a specification-friendly extra rather than a reason to choose this phone, and the main camera will often be the more useful option.
The 16 MP second-generation under-display selfie camera is the clearest compromise. Hiding the camera preserves the uninterrupted display, but review coverage describes selfies as fuzzy, washed out, or otherwise weak. Android Central found improvement over the previous generation, while still considering image quality limited. If frequent video calls, selfies, or social photography are central to your phone use, this is a significant drawback.
Rear video recording is listed up to 8K, although the available resolution and frame-rate combinations depend on the selected mode. The camera system is serviceable for everyday snapshots; it is not competitive with photography-first flagship phones.
Software and update status
The REDMAGIC 9 Pro launched with REDMAGIC OS 9.0 based on Android 14. The current official support documentation cited for this article lists V10.0.7 for Europe and V10.0.7MR1 for North America, Asia, and other regions, with the support page marked as last updated February 4, 2026.

- 【20W Power Ultra-Fast Cooling】The wired magnetic phone cooler utilizes high-performance Peltier element (TEC) with high heat dissipation capacity, and its heat dissipation ability lowers the temperature of the main unit by about 95℉. NOTE: Connection to power supply required for use. Power must exceed 20W for optimal performance. Data cable not included in packag.
- 【Simple Control】The cell phone cooling fan has a built-in Type-C interface, just connect the power cord and it is ready to use. Switch between overclocking mode and silent mode with the click of a button. 12N strong magnetic force holds the phone firmly in place and prevents it from falling off.
- 【Compact and lightweight design】The Magnetic cell phone cooler weighs only 0.18 lb in a small size, leaving more space for hand operation and being without overheavy burden.
- 【Quiet Operation】This smartphone cooler adopts noise reduction design, and the operating noise in silent mode is only 30db, allowing you to play games or watch videos comfortably.
- 【Vertical Air Duct Design】The vertical air duct design of FunCooler 5 smartphone cooling fan focuses on the user's actual experience and innovative ergonomic design, which provides a comfortable grip and does not dissipate heat to the hand.
Those labels should not be collapsed into one universal firmware version. Regional builds can differ, and a support page is evidence of the latest version documented there—not proof that no later over-the-air update exists in every country. Check Settings > System Update on the handset before buying or immediately after setup.

Buyers who prioritize long-term support, consistently refined software, or rapid mainstream security updates should compare the 9 Pro carefully with established flagship brands.
Configurations, launch price, and buying caveats
The international launch configurations were:
- Sleet: 12 GB RAM and 256 GB storage.
- Snowfall or Cyclone: 16 GB RAM and 512 GB storage.
Memory is LPDDR5X and storage is UFS 4.0. The international model was reviewed as launching from $649, with preorders beginning December 27, 2023 and open sales beginning January 3, 2024. That is historical launch information, not a current price. Present-day pricing, inventory, warranty terms, seller reputation, carrier-band compatibility, and accessory availability vary by country and should be checked at the time of purchase.
Imported units deserve extra scrutiny. Confirm the exact regional model, supported cellular bands, charger plug, warranty coverage, return policy, and software region before paying. A low listing price is less attractive if repair or warranty service requires international shipping.

REDMAGIC 9 Pro protective case
The phone includes a clear case, so an additional REDMAGIC 9 Pro protective case is an upgrade or replacement rather than a mandatory purchase. REDMAGIC’s model-specific case is described as offering impact protection, improved grip, a transparent design, and cutouts intended to preserve access to the shoulder triggers. When shopping, verify that the listing explicitly names the 9 Pro or 9S Pro; a case for an older REDMAGIC generation may not fit the camera layout, buttons, or triggers.

External cooler
The optional REDMAGIC Turbo Cooler 4 Pro is aimed at especially demanding or unusually long sessions. REDMAGIC describes its design as 27 W and claims temperature reductions of up to 20°C; those are manufacturer claims, not independent test results. Because the 9 Pro already has an internal fan, an external cooler is an enthusiast add-on, not a baseline requirement. It may make sense for competitive play, hot environments, or sustained sessions while charging.
Gamepad
The Shadow Blade Gamepad 2 is a better fit for players who want console-style controls, cloud gaming, or compatible emulation setups. It is a control preference rather than a performance upgrade. The phone’s built-in shoulder triggers already cover some of the advantages of a controller, so choose a gamepad for its analog sticks and familiar layout—not because the 9 Pro lacks gaming controls.
Spare USB-C cable
A spare Type-C-to-Type-C 6A cable can be useful for travel or as a replacement. However, do not assume every third-party cable will deliver the phone’s full 80 W charging rate. The charger, cable capability, charging protocol, regional implementation, and phone all need to be compatible.

Bottom line: is the REDMAGIC 9 Pro worth buying?
The REDMAGIC 9 Pro is worth considering when gaming performance and endurance matter more than camera quality and compact design. Its cooling system, high-touch-rate display, shoulder triggers, headphone jack, DisplayPort-capable USB-C port, and large battery form a coherent package for serious mobile players.
Choose another type of phone if your first requirements are excellent selfies, consistently strong rear-camera results, light weight, wireless charging, or a clearly documented long-term software-support policy. For everyone else, the 9 Pro remains a focused gaming device rather than a compromised attempt to be everything to everyone.
