If the option is missing, the usual causes are an unsupported GPU, outdated game or driver, or the wrong active graphics adapter.
RDR2’s general PC requirements create much of the confusion: Rockstar lists GTX cards for running the game, but GTX, AMD, Intel, integrated, and console hardware does not meet the requirement for the game’s native NVIDIA DLSS control.
Key takeaways
- RDR2 supports native NVIDIA DLSS on Windows PC, and the control is located under Settings > Graphics.
- DLSS requires a supported NVIDIA GeForce RTX GPU; a GTX 770 or GTX 1060 can satisfy RDR2’s general PC requirements but cannot provide native DLSS.
- RDR2 and the NVIDIA graphics driver should be updated before troubleshooting a missing DLSS option.
- Consoles, AMD Radeon GPUs, Intel GPUs, integrated graphics, and unsupported NVIDIA adapters cannot display RDR2’s native DLSS control.
- RDR2’s built-in DLSS should not be confused with newer DLSS features such as Frame Generation or Ray Reconstruction.
How do you enable DLSS in RDR2?
To enable DLSS in RDR2, launch the updated Windows PC version on a supported GeForce RTX GPU, open Story > Settings > Graphics, find the NVIDIA DLSS control, choose the available quality setting, and apply it. The menu may request a restart after the change.
Rockstar confirms that DLSS is available to Windows users with NVIDIA graphics cards capable of performing DLSS. NVIDIA places the control in the game’s Graphics settings, while Rockstar’s current support instructions use the Story > Settings > Graphics path. The exact label or available quality choices can vary between game builds, so use the controls shown by your installation rather than expecting an identical submenu on every PC. See Rockstar’s RDR2 Title Update 1.25 notes and NVIDIA’s RDR2 DLSS announcement.

Why can’t you see DLSS in RDR2 settings?
DLSS is usually missing because the game is not running on Windows PC, the active GPU is not DLSS-capable, or the game and graphics driver are out of date. On a laptop or multi-GPU computer, the game may also be using integrated graphics instead of the dedicated RTX adapter.
| Possible cause | What it means | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| Console version | The console graphics menu does not expose the Windows PC DLSS control. | Native RDR2 DLSS cannot be enabled through console settings. |
| GTX graphics card | The card may run RDR2 but does not meet the RTX-based DLSS requirement. | Use another supported GPU; driver changes cannot add native DLSS to a GTX card. |
| AMD, Intel, or integrated graphics | The active adapter is outside the NVIDIA hardware requirement for RDR2’s native DLSS integration. | Make sure the game uses a supported RTX GPU, if the computer has one. |
| Out-of-date game | The required RDR2 DLSS update may not be installed. | Update RDR2 through its launcher or game platform. |
| Out-of-date NVIDIA driver | The driver may prevent the feature from being exposed or may cause broader graphics problems. | Install the current NVIDIA Game Ready Driver for the RTX GPU. |
| Wrong laptop adapter | RDR2 may be running on integrated graphics instead of the dedicated RTX GPU. | Check the active GPU in Windows or the NVIDIA control software, then relaunch the game. |
Does RDR2 support DLSS on GTX graphics cards?
No. RDR2 can support a GTX card for general gameplay without supporting DLSS on that card. Rockstar lists the GeForce GTX 770 2GB as the minimum NVIDIA GPU and the GeForce GTX 1060 6GB as the recommended NVIDIA GPU for RDR2 generally, but those are GTX models rather than RTX models. RDR2’s native DLSS requirement is separate from the game’s basic system requirement.
According to Rockstar’s RDR2 PC system requirements, the general requirements also list Windows 10 64-bit, 8GB of minimum memory, 12GB of recommended memory, and 150GB of listed storage. Those figures describe whether the PC meets the game’s general requirements; they do not make a GTX card DLSS-capable.
If the current GPU is a GTX model and DLSS is important, the relevant hardware change is a DLSS-compatible GeForce RTX graphics card. A hardware purchase is unnecessary if the computer already contains a supported RTX GPU; update and configuration troubleshooting should come first.

Is DLSS available on AMD or Intel graphics in RDR2?
No. RDR2’s native DLSS control is an NVIDIA technology feature and requires a supported NVIDIA GeForce RTX GPU. AMD Radeon, Intel, integrated graphics, and other unsupported adapters cannot gain the native RDR2 DLSS option by installing a different driver or changing a graphics setting.
Current NVIDIA documentation separates DLSS Super Resolution from other DLSS features and identifies supported hardware by feature. That distinction matters because RDR2’s documented integration is NVIDIA DLSS, not a promise that every newer DLSS capability is available in the game. Check NVIDIA’s current DLSS technology documentation for the feature and hardware distinctions.
How do you update RDR2 and the NVIDIA driver for DLSS?
Update both the game and the graphics driver before treating a missing option as a hardware problem. NVIDIA’s RDR2 announcement specifically instructs players to install the new game update and the latest Game Ready Driver to enable DLSS support.
- Update RDR2. Open the launcher or game platform that installed RDR2 and install every available game update. Restart the launcher if it does not immediately detect the update.
- Update the NVIDIA driver. Install the current Game Ready Driver for the RTX GPU from NVIDIA’s supported driver process. A clean driver installation can be considered if normal updating does not resolve a wider graphics problem.
- Restart Windows. A restart ensures that the updated display driver is loaded before RDR2 is launched again.
- Check the active adapter. On a laptop or multi-GPU system, verify that RDR2 is using the dedicated RTX GPU rather than integrated graphics.
- Open the menu again. Launch RDR2, enter Story Mode, select Settings > Graphics, and check for NVIDIA DLSS.
What should you do if an RTX card still does not show DLSS?
If an RTX card still does not show DLSS in RDR2, confirm the exact active GPU, update RDR2, update the NVIDIA driver, and relaunch the game after the updates. An RTX card installed in the computer is not enough if RDR2 is actually rendering through a different adapter.

1. Verify the GPU RDR2 is using
Use Windows’ graphics settings, Task Manager, or NVIDIA’s graphics-control software to identify the adapter associated with RDR2 while the game is running. A laptop can contain both an integrated GPU and a discrete RTX GPU, and the integrated adapter does not satisfy the native DLSS requirement.
2. Confirm that the card is a supported RTX model
Check the exact model rather than relying on the word “NVIDIA” or on the computer’s general gaming label. NVIDIA’s current DLSS documentation covers multiple GeForce RTX hardware generations, including RTX 20-, 30-, 40-, and 50-Series classes in the supplied compatibility guidance. GTX branding does not qualify as RTX branding.
3. Update before changing unrelated settings
Rockstar’s troubleshooting documentation states that one RDR2 graphics error is “usually caused by out-of-date graphics drivers.” The same support guidance recommends checking system requirements, updating drivers, lowering graphics settings, and using the in-game Graphics Benchmark for broader performance or stability problems. Read Rockstar’s RDR2 graphics-error troubleshooting steps if the missing menu is accompanied by crashes or rendering errors.
4. Test the menu in the correct game mode
Use Story Mode and open Story > Settings > Graphics. Do not assume that a console menu, a launcher setting, or a different display overlay will contain the PC DLSS control.

5. Do not edit files or buy accessories to create DLSS
A monitor, cable, replacement part, generic performance utility, or graphics preset cannot create the native DLSS option on unsupported hardware. A third-party PC maintenance tool may help investigate general driver or system instability, but it cannot add DLSS support to a GTX, AMD, Intel, integrated, or console version of RDR2.
How much performance can DLSS add in RDR2?
NVIDIA reported in its July 13, 2021 RDR2 DLSS announcement that DLSS could accelerate performance by up to 45% at 4K. That is an NVIDIA vendor-reported maximum under its stated test conditions, not a guaranteed result for every GPU, resolution, graphics preset, or game build.
NVIDIA also published example targets of more than 60 frames per second at 2560×1440 with maximum settings on a GeForce RTX 3060 Ti or faster, and 60 frames per second or more at 3840×2160 with maximum settings on a GeForce RTX 3070 or faster. These are vendor-published examples rather than universal benchmarks. Actual results depend on the GPU, CPU, settings, resolution, driver, and whether the system is limited by rendering or another component.
| Situation | What the evidence supports | What it does not guarantee |
|---|---|---|
| RDR2 at 4K | NVIDIA reported up to 45% performance acceleration with DLSS in 2021. | Every PC will gain 45%. |
| 2560×1440, maximum settings | NVIDIA gave RTX 3060 Ti and above as an example target for more than 60 FPS. | Every RTX 3060 Ti system will exceed 60 FPS. |
| 3840×2160, maximum settings | NVIDIA gave RTX 3070 or faster as an example target for 60 FPS or more. | Every RTX 3070 system will maintain 60 FPS in every scene. |
Which DLSS features should you expect in RDR2?
Expect RDR2’s documented NVIDIA DLSS integration, but do not assume that the game exposes every newer DLSS feature. DLSS Super Resolution, Frame Generation, Ray Reconstruction, and other technologies have separate compatibility requirements in NVIDIA’s current documentation.

Quick diagnosis checklist
- Are you running the Windows PC version rather than a console version?
- Is the active adapter a supported GeForce RTX GPU rather than a GTX, AMD, Intel, or integrated GPU?
- Is RDR2 fully updated through its launcher or platform?
- Is the NVIDIA Game Ready Driver current?
- On a laptop, is RDR2 using the dedicated RTX GPU?
- Did you open Story > Settings > Graphics after launching the updated game?
- Are you looking for the game’s NVIDIA DLSS control rather than Frame Generation or another newer DLSS feature?
If the answers are yes and the option remains absent, the next useful step is to isolate whether RDR2 is using the wrong adapter or whether the driver installation is malfunctioning. If the GPU is not DLSS-capable, no software fix can make the native control appear.
