Yes. As of Pocketpair’s current version 0.5.0 server documentation, Xbox and Steam players can play Palworld together through regular co-op crossplay or a dedicated server configured for both platforms. For a persistent world that Xbox players can find, use a crossplay-enabled community server rather than relying on direct IP entry.
The older answer—that Steam and Xbox could not play together—came from earlier documentation and is no longer the current guidance.
How Xbox and Steam crossplay works
Pocketpair’s current version 0.5.0 server documentation lists Steam and Xbox among the platforms supported for crossplay and explicitly states that co-op crossplay is available.
This covers the Xbox console version and the Windows PC version obtained through the Microsoft Store or PC Game Pass, although those are separate editions from the Steam release. Players do not need to use the same storefront, device, or account platform. The important requirement is that everyone joins the same multiplayer session or a server configured to accept both Steam and Xbox connections.

Pocketpair’s current server documentation specifically names Xbox Series. Older documentation also mentioned Xbox One, but the current 0.5.0 page does not provide the same explicit confirmation. If you are using Xbox One, check the current game build and the server provider before treating compatibility as guaranteed.
The easiest method: regular co-op
For a small group that only plays when the host is available, regular co-op is the simplest option.
- Update Palworld on every device. The Xbox and Steam clients should be fully updated.
- Have one player create or host a multiplayer world. Use the game’s multiplayer world and invitation options.
- Invite the other players through the game. The Xbox and Steam players should join the same session rather than creating separate worlds.
- Restart after updates if necessary. A client that was open during an update may need to be closed and relaunched.
The official source confirms that co-op crossplay is available, but its server documentation does not provide a complete current walkthrough of every in-game menu label. Exact prompts can therefore vary by platform and game build.
Co-op trade-offs
- Best for: small groups, occasional sessions, and players who want minimal setup.
- Limitation: the world is generally tied more closely to the host’s session and availability.
- Advantage: there is no need to administer a separate server or maintain server configuration files.
Dedicated-server crossplay for Xbox and Steam
A dedicated server runs the Palworld world independently of an individual player’s game client. Pocketpair describes dedicated servers as allowing the host’s client to be closed and as supporting larger groups than ordinary client-hosted play.
This is the better choice when players want a persistent world, when the original host is not always online, or when the group needs more control over passwords, settings, backups, and access.
Use the current crossplay setting
For a version 0.5.0 server, the relevant setting is:
CrossplayPlatforms=(Steam,Xbox,PS5,Mac)
Pocketpair lists that as the default in its current configuration reference. If you want to restrict the server specifically to Steam and Xbox, use:
CrossplayPlatforms=(Steam,Xbox)
Do not follow older guides that tell you to use:
AllowConnectPlatform=Xbox
Pocketpair marks AllowConnectPlatform as unavailable for version 0.5.0 and instructs server operators to use CrossplayPlatforms instead.

Edit the active configuration file
The setting must be changed in the generated, active configuration file—not only in the default template. If the server has never been started, launch it once so that the configuration directories and active file are created.

Linux:

After editing the active file, save it and restart the server. If you edit only DefaultPalWorldSettings.ini, the change will not necessarily apply to the running server.
Make the server visible to Xbox players
Xbox players generally need to find a dedicated server through Palworld’s in-game community server list. Pocketpair’s documentation says Xbox players cannot connect by entering an IP address directly.
Start the server as a community server using the documented public-lobby option:
Windows:
PalServer.exe -publiclobby
Linux:
./PalServer.sh -publiclobby
Pocketpair explains that a community server is a dedicated server registered in the game’s server list. This is different from a private dedicated server that may be reachable through direct connection methods on platforms that support them.
For a mixed Xbox-and-Steam group, the practical setup is therefore:
- Use a current Palworld server build compatible with version 0.5.0.
- Enable both
SteamandXboxinCrossplayPlatforms. - Start the server with
-publiclobby. - Set a recognizable server name and a password if the server should remain private to your group.
- Have the Xbox player search for that exact name in the community-server browser.
- Have the Steam player join the same server using the available server-list or connection method.
If you need to install a dedicated server with SteamCMD, Pocketpair documents this command:
steamcmd +login anonymous +app_update 2394010 validate +quit
See Pocketpair’s dedicated-server deployment guide and community-server guide for the installation and startup details.

1. Check every version
Update both game clients and confirm that the dedicated server is running a compatible build. If one platform receives an update before another, joining may be temporarily impossible until the client and server versions align.
- Update Palworld on Xbox.
- Update Palworld through Steam.
- Update or validate the dedicated-server installation.
- Restart the game and server after updating.
2. Replace the old configuration syntax
If the server setup came from an older guide, remove reliance on AllowConnectPlatform. Use:
Rank #3
CrossplayPlatforms=(Steam,Xbox)
or retain the documented default:
CrossplayPlatforms=(Steam,Xbox,PS5,Mac)
3. Confirm that you edited the active file
Verify that the change was made in the appropriate PalSavedConfig or Pal/Saved/Config path. Editing the default settings template alone will not apply the setting to the active server.
4. Confirm community-server deployment
If the Xbox player cannot see the server, check that it was started with -publiclobby and is actually appearing in Palworld’s community-server browser. A private server that is not listed may not be discoverable from Xbox.

Check spelling, capitalization, punctuation, and any spaces in the server name. Also confirm that the server has not reached its player limit and that it is online.
6. Check access and network settings
Verify the password, firewall rules, port forwarding or hosting-provider settings, and server status. A server can be correctly configured for crossplay but still be unreachable because of network restrictions or provider downtime.
7. Check the server provider’s capabilities
Rented servers can use outdated server images or restrict configuration access. Before subscribing, confirm that the provider supports Steam/Xbox crossplay, current Palworld builds, Xbox community-server discovery, configuration-file access, backups, and the player capacity your group needs.
What Xbox-and-Steam crossplay does not guarantee
Crossplay is not cross-save
Crossplay lets players share a multiplayer world. It does not by itself prove that a save, character, inventory, or progression can be transferred between the Steam and Xbox editions. Treat cross-save and cross-progression as separate features requiring their own current confirmation.

Xbox One support needs separate confirmation
Although older Xbox documentation included Xbox One, Pocketpair’s current 0.5.0 server page specifically names Xbox Series. Do not promise Xbox One support without checking the current build, server documentation, or provider compatibility information.
PS5 documentation is inconsistent
Pocketpair’s 0.5.0 configuration reference includes PS5 in the default platform list, but its current “About server” page says PS5 crossplay is unavailable. That is an apparent documentation conflict. PS5 should not be added to a mixed-platform plan without verifying the current server build and official guidance.
Mods and client changes can cause problems
Crossplay compatibility does not mean that every mod, altered client, or server modification will work across platforms. For troubleshooting, first test with compatible, unmodified clients and the server’s standard configuration.

Which setup is best for a mixed group?
| Situation | Best choice | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Small group playing occasionally | Regular co-op | Lowest setup complexity and no separate server administration. |
| Persistent world needed | Dedicated/community server | The world can remain available when the original host is offline. |
| Xbox players must find the server easily | Community-listed crossplay server | Xbox players generally need the in-game server browser rather than direct IP entry. |
| No one wants to manage infrastructure | Hosted dedicated server | The provider handles much of the server operation, but compatibility and backup policies must be checked. |
| Mostly PC players managing their own server | Steam plus self-hosted tooling | Steam users may find PC server administration more convenient, while Xbox access still requires the correct community-server setup. |
Do you need to buy Palworld twice?
No. An Xbox player can use the Xbox or Microsoft Store edition, while the PC player can use Steam. The Steam player does not need to install the Microsoft Store version merely to join an Xbox player, and the Xbox player does not need to buy the Steam edition.

Why older articles say the opposite
Many search results still repeat the launch-era answer that Steam could not play with Xbox or PC Game Pass. That information was based on earlier compatibility limits. Pocketpair’s older version 0.4.15 documentation stated that Steam crossplay was unavailable, while the current 0.5.0 documentation says co-op crossplay is available and lists Steam and Xbox in the crossplay configuration.
When following a setup guide, check its Palworld documentation version. A guide that still recommends AllowConnectPlatform is a warning sign that it may not describe the current server configuration.

Can Xbox and Steam players join the same Palworld world?
Yes. Current Pocketpair version 0.5.0 documentation confirms co-op crossplay between supported Xbox and Steam setups, provided the clients and server are compatible.
Can an Xbox player join a Palworld server by entering its IP address?
Generally no. Pocketpair’s documentation says Xbox players should find the server through the in-game community-server list, so the dedicated server should be started as a community server with -publiclobby.
What setting enables Steam and Xbox on a Palworld server?
Use CrossplayPlatforms=(Steam,Xbox), or the documented default CrossplayPlatforms=(Steam,Xbox,PS5,Mac). Do not rely on the older AllowConnectPlatform setting.
Does Palworld crossplay transfer saves between Xbox and Steam?
Not automatically. Multiplayer crossplay and cross-save are separate features; shared play does not establish unrestricted save or progression transfer.
The Bottom Line
Yes—Xbox and Steam can play Palworld together now. Use fully updated clients for regular co-op, or configure a current dedicated server with CrossplayPlatforms including Steam and Xbox. If Xbox players need to find that server, launch it as a community server with -publiclobby.
