The props.dll error usually points to a damaged or incomplete installation of The Bat., not to a missing Windows component. The safest repair is to protect your mail data, identify the program calling props.dll, and repair or reinstall the matching The Bat. installation from Ritlabs.
Which fix applies to you
Use the first description that matches what you see:
- The Bat. displays the error when you start it: Back up your mail, check antivirus quarantine, then repair or reinstall The Bat. from Ritlabs.
- The error appears after updating or reinstalling The Bat.: The program files may be incomplete. Install the same historical release if an older workflow requires it, or test the current official release.
- The file is present, but Windows says “The specified module could not be found”: A dependency of
props.dllmay be missing. Reinstalling the complete application is safer than copying a replacement DLL. - Your antivirus recently removed or quarantined a file: Review its quarantine history. Restore the file only if it is clearly part of the trusted The Bat. installation, then update the application and run a full scan.
- Another program, startup entry, old backup, or portable copy produces the error: Find the exact executable and installation folder before changing anything.
- Several unrelated Windows programs also report corrupted system files: Run DISM and System File Checker after protecting your application data.
- The error began with repeated file disappearance or wider disk problems: Investigate malware and drive health rather than repeatedly restoring the DLL.
What props.dll is
The strongest public identification associates props.dll with Ritlabs’ The Bat. email client. Public DLL metadata describes it as a Win32 or x86 file and lists the internal description as T. Those records also report an older file record associated with The Bat., but they are third-party metadata rather than a Ritlabs file manifest.

There is no confirmed evidence that props.dll is part of Windows, System32, SysWOW64, DirectX, .NET, a Visual C++ redistributable, or a device driver. Do not treat it as a general-purpose Windows DLL.
The exact contents of current The Bat. installers are not publicly documented in a way that verifies whether every modern release still contains this file. A current installation and an old installation may therefore require different files. Use the installer for the affected application and release instead of combining DLLs from different sources.
Identify the program that is failing
Before repairing anything, confirm which executable requests props.dll.
If the error appears when launching The Bat.
Record:
- The shortcut name.
- The target path.
- The folder containing the executable.
- Whether the installation is on a local disk, network location, or removable drive.
- Whether you use a normal installation or a portable copy.
To inspect a shortcut:
- Right-click the shortcut.
- Select Properties.
- Open the Shortcut tab.
- Read the Target field.
- Select Open File Location if available.
- Write down the folder path without deleting or moving anything.
If the error occurs during Windows startup:
- Press Ctrl + Shift + Esc to open Task Manager.
- Select Startup apps.
- Look for The Bat. or an unfamiliar entry.
- Right-click the entry and select Open file location.
- Check whether the executable belongs to the expected installation.
A filename alone is not proof of ownership. An old backup, a second installation, or another program can contain a file with the same name.

Fix 1: Back up The Bat. mail before changing program files
Do this before uninstalling, deleting, or replacing The Bat..
Ritlabs’ documented backup process uses Tools → Backup and creates a .tbk backup.
- Open The Bat. if it still starts.
- Select Tools.
- Select Backup.
- Choose the accounts or mail data you need to preserve.
- Save the
.tbkfile to a separate drive or another protected location. - Confirm that the backup file exists and can be accessed.
If The Bat. will not start, do not guess at profile or mail-directory locations. Copy the known mail-data folder to a separate location if you can identify it, and preserve the original. If your organization has an established backup procedure, use that before reinstalling.
Ritlabs states that a normal uninstall removes program files but preserves mail data. Its separate Change removal workflow can offer data-retention choices, and disabling the keep-data option can remove data. Read every removal prompt carefully.
Fix 2: Check antivirus quarantine
Security software may have removed props.dll, especially if the application folder was modified or the file was considered suspicious.
Windows Security
- Open Start.
- Type Windows Security.
- Open it.
- Select Virus & threat protection.
- Select Protection history.
- Review entries that mention The Bat., its installation folder, or
props.dll. - Open an entry and inspect its path and action.
Restore the file only when all of these are true:
- The path is inside the expected The Bat. installation.
- The application was installed from a trusted Ritlabs installer.
- The detection is understood or has been reviewed by your administrator.
- The file is not part of an unknown program or temporary download.
Do not disable antivirus protection simply to copy a DLL into a Windows folder. After restoring a trusted file, update The Bat. and run a full security scan.
If the file repeatedly disappears after restoration, stop restoring it manually. Repeated removal can indicate a real detection, a damaged installation, malware, or disk corruption.
Fix 3: Repair or reinstall The Bat. from Ritlabs
This is the most likely solution.
Use the official The Bat. download page from Ritlabs for a new installation. Ritlabs also maintains an archive of older installers. If a business workflow depends on an older release, use the matching archived installer rather than assuming a current build contains the same files.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteTry an in-place repair first
Some installers provide a repair or modify option.
- Close The Bat..
- Open Settings.
- Select Apps.
- Select Installed apps.
- Find The Bat..
- Select the three-dot menu.
- Choose Modify, Change, or Repair if available.
- Follow the installer prompts.
- Restart Windows if requested.
- Launch The Bat. from its normal shortcut.
If there is no repair option, run the official installer for the matching release over the existing installation. Do not delete the mail-data folder first.
Perform a reinstall when repair fails
- Confirm that your
.tbkbackup exists. - Close The Bat. and any related process in Task Manager.
- Open Settings → Apps → Installed apps.
- Select The Bat..
- Choose Uninstall.
- Read the prompts carefully.
- Keep mail data when the installer offers that choice.
- Restart Windows.
- Install The Bat. from the official Ritlabs installer.
- Open the program and confirm that accounts and mail are present.
- Test sending, receiving, and opening existing messages.
If the old release is no longer appropriate, install the supported current release and restore or migrate data only after confirming that the backup is available.

Check whether it worked
The repair succeeded if:
- The Bat. opens without the
props.dllmessage. - Existing accounts and mail are available.
- The program can open messages and complete a normal operation.
- The error does not return after restarting Windows.
If the same message remains, note the exact executable path and installer version. The next possibility is a missing dependency, incompatible architecture, or a second copy of the application being launched.
Fix 4: Check the file location and architecture
The available public record describes props.dll as an x86 or 32-bit file. A 32-bit application normally needs the matching 32-bit files from its own installation directory.
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Do not copy a random 64-bit DLL into a 32-bit application folder. Do not assume that a newer file is interchangeable with an older one. Wrong-version and wrong-architecture files can produce errors about missing entry points, invalid applications, or additional missing modules.
To inspect the installation:
- Right-click the The Bat. shortcut.
- Select Properties.
- Select Open File Location.
- Look for
props.dllin that application directory. - Right-click the file and select Properties.
- Open Details.
- Record the displayed description, file version, and product information if present.
- Do not replace the file based only on its filename.
If the file exists but the program still reports it as missing, the message may refer to a dependency that props.dll needs. A complete application reinstall is the appropriate first repair.
Fix 5: Update or reinstall related drivers only when evidence supports it
props.dll is not established as a driver file. Driver replacement is therefore not a first-line fix. Consider it only if the error began alongside graphics, storage, chipset, security-device, or other hardware failures and the affected application documents a driver dependency.
Use Windows Update first:
- Open Settings.
- Select Windows Update.
- Select Check for updates.
- Install applicable updates.
- Select Advanced options → Optional updates.
- Expand Driver updates.
- Install a driver only when it matches your hardware.
- Restart Windows.
You can also use Device Manager:
- Right-click Start.
- Select Device Manager.
- Expand the relevant hardware category.
- Right-click the device.
- Select Update driver.
- Choose Search automatically for drivers.
- Restart Windows if prompted.
For a damaged driver, select Uninstall device, restart, and allow Windows or the hardware manufacturer’s supported installer to reinstall it. Do not use Device Manager to replace props.dll; it is an application file.

Outbyte Driver Updater can scan for driver problems and show what needs attention; its full version performs the driver installation, while reinstalling The Bat. remains the definitive fix for this application DLL.
Fix 6: Repair Windows components only for wider Windows corruption
DISM and SFC do not normally restore third-party files in an application folder. Use them when other Windows components are also failing, Windows features are damaged, or system-file errors point beyond The Bat..
Microsoft’s order is DISM first, followed by SFC.
- Open Start.
- Type Command Prompt.
- Right-click Command Prompt.
- Select Run as administrator.
- Approve the User Account Control prompt.
- Run:
DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth
- Wait for it to finish.
- Then run:
sfc /scannow
- Wait until verification reaches 100 percent.
- Restart Windows.
- Test The Bat. again.
If SFC reports that it repaired files, test Windows and The Bat. after the restart. If it reports that it could not repair some files, repeat the process only after reviewing the result and checking Windows Update. Do not expect these commands to recreate a missing props.dll in The Bat.’s installation folder.
Repeatedly running repair commands without knowing what changed makes troubleshooting harder. Outbyte PC Repair can scan for system problems and show what needs attention; its full version performs the repair, but an official The Bat. reinstall remains the definitive fix for this application file.
Do not register props.dll with regsvr32
regsvr32 is intended for DLLs that provide registration entry points such as DllRegisterServer, commonly used by certain COM or ActiveX components. There is no verified evidence that props.dll is such a component.
Do not run this as a routine fix:
regsvr32 props.dll
Registering an ordinary private application DLL will not restore a damaged installation. It can instead create a different error stating that the entry point was not found.
Use regsvr32 only when the application vendor specifically instructs you to register that exact file and provides the correct command for its installation.
Do not copy props.dll to System32 or SysWOW64
props.dll has not been identified as a Windows system component. Copying it to C:WindowsSystem32 or C:WindowsSysWOW64 can:
- Leave The Bat. broken because it still lacks the correct file in its own folder.
- Put an unverified DLL in a protected system location.
- Create architecture or version conflicts.
- Make future diagnosis more difficult.
- Expose other programs to an incorrectly sourced file.
The correct location is normally the application’s own installation directory, and the safest way to restore it is through the application installer.

Avoid loose DLL download sites
Do not download props.dll from a random DLL index or copy a file supplied by a forum post. The risks include malware, incorrect architecture, an incompatible version, and a file that does not contain the dependencies your installation needs.
Public metadata for this filename is also inconsistent. One record describes an older x86 The Bat. file, while another public record contains conflicting architecture information. That is a reason to use the official Ritlabs installer, not a reason to try several downloaded DLLs.
Fix 7: Test the profile and investigate deeper failures
If reinstalling program files does not help, the problem may involve application data, a user profile, or a dependency.
Work through these checks:
- Confirm that the shortcut launches the intended The Bat. executable.
- Check whether another copy launches at Windows startup.
- Review antivirus quarantine again.
- Check that the application folder is writable by the account running it.
- Test with a fresh Windows user profile if the error occurs only for one user.
- Test The Bat. with a new application profile if supported by your installation.
- Avoid deleting the original profile until mail has been backed up.
- Contact Ritlabs support with the exact error, executable path, Windows version, installer version, and steps that reproduce the problem.
If props.dll repeatedly changes, disappears, or is accompanied by unrelated file corruption, run a reputable full or offline security scan and check the health of the storage device. Do not restore an unknown file solely because its name matches.

Ritlabs documents that normal uninstall removes program files but preserves mail data. Its separate removal workflow can include data-retention choices, so create a .tbk backup and read every prompt before proceeding.
What if the error says “The specified module could not be found”?
That wording can mean a dependency of props.dll is missing rather than the named file itself. Reinstall the complete The Bat. installation and avoid guessing at unrelated runtime packages.
Prevent the error from returning
- Keep a current The Bat. backup and store it separately from the application.
- Use official Ritlabs installers and archived releases when version matching matters.
- Do not clean application folders manually.
- Review antivirus quarantine before restoring or deleting files.
- Avoid mixing 32-bit and 64-bit application files.
- Do not place private application DLLs in System32 or SysWOW64.
- Record the executable path whenever a startup shortcut or backup copy is involved.
- Keep Windows and security software updated.
- Investigate repeated file disappearance instead of repeatedly downloading replacements.
For this file, the repeatable repair path is straightforward: preserve mail data, identify the calling executable, check quarantine, and repair or reinstall the matching The Bat. release. Use Windows repair commands only when there is broader evidence of Windows corruption.
