“i2ldvp3.dll was not found,” “The file i2ldvp3.dll is missing or corrupted,” and “Error loading i2ldvp3.dll” are common forms of this error. The file i2ldvp3.dll belongs to Norton or Symantec antivirus software, so the safest fix is to repair or reinstall the product that is trying to load it.
The 60-second answer
Do not download i2ldvp3.dll from a random DLL site, copy it into System32, or run regsvr32 just because the filename ends in .dll.
Instead:
- Note the program or service named in the error.
- Check whether Norton or Symantec Endpoint Protection quarantined the file.
- Confirm whether the file belongs inside a Symantec installation directory.
- Repair the installed Norton or Symantec product.
- If repair fails, remove and reinstall it using the official installer.
- If the error continues after removal, look for a stale service or startup entry.
i2ldvp3.dll is a genuine third-party antivirus component associated with Norton AntiVirus and Symantec software. It is not a Windows DLL, Microsoft runtime, DirectX component, or .NET file.
Public file inventories identify it as a 32-bit Win32 DLL developed by Symantec Corporation. Historical inventories also show it in Symantec Endpoint Protection installation folders, commonly beneath a path similar to:

C:Program Files (x86)SymantecSymantec Endpoint Protection<version>Bini2ldvp3.dll
That path is an example, not a universal location. The filename alone cannot prove which Norton or Symantec product supplied a particular copy.
First, identify what is failing
The repair depends on the program that requested the DLL. A Norton service, Symantec Endpoint Protection client, old Symantec AntiVirus installation, or an unrelated program with a stale reference can all produce similar messages.
Check the full error message
Look for the executable or service name in the dialog, Event Viewer entry, or crash report. Useful names may include a Norton or Symantec process, but do not assume every error mentioning the DLL comes directly from antivirus software.
If the message appears when Windows starts, write down:
- The executable name
- The service name
- The folder shown in the error
- Whether Norton or Symantec is still installed
- Whether the problem began after an update, uninstall, cleanup, or Windows upgrade
Check the file location
If a copy of i2ldvp3.dll exists, right-click it and choose Properties.
Review the General, Details, and Digital Signatures tabs. A legitimate copy should normally be inside the Norton or Symantec product directory and should be associated with Symantec. A copy in a temporary folder, a user-writable folder, an unrelated application directory, C:WindowsSystem32, or C:WindowsSysWOW64 deserves extra scrutiny.
Do not treat a matching filename as proof of authenticity. If the publisher, location, or signature looks wrong, scan the computer and obtain a clean installer from the official Norton or organizational Symantec source.
Check Event Viewer when the message is vague
- Press Windows + X.
- Choose Event Viewer.
- Expand Windows Logs.
- Select Application.
- Choose Filter Current Log.
- Look for entries marked Error around the time the problem occurred.
- Open the event and note the Faulting application name and Faulting module name.
If the faulting application is a Symantec service, repair the antivirus installation. If it is an unrelated application, repair that application too, because it may be holding an obsolete reference to the DLL.
Fix 1: Check Norton quarantine before reinstalling
Norton may have quarantined the file after identifying it as suspicious or after a false positive. Do not restore it automatically.
- Open Norton.
- Select Security.
- Open Security History.
- Change the category to Quarantine.
- Find an entry referring to
i2ldvp3.dll. - Open the event details and inspect the original path and file information.
- Check whether the file was part of the installed Norton or Symantec product.
Restore the file only when its path, publisher, and authenticity are established and the detection is clearly a false positive. Norton warns that restoring a quarantined item is high risk and does not disinfect or repair it.
If Norton classified the file as a genuine threat, leave it quarantined. Reinstall Norton from its official account or installation package instead of restoring the file.

After changing quarantine status, restart Windows and test the affected program. If the same error returns, continue with a product repair or reinstall.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix 2: Repair Norton with the official Remove and Reinstall tool
This is the most appropriate fix when a consumer Norton installation is damaged, incomplete, or missing one of its private files.
Before starting, save open work and make sure you can sign in to the Norton account associated with the product.
- Obtain Norton’s official Remove and Reinstall tool from Norton Support or your Norton account.
- Save the installer to a location you can find easily.
- Right-click the downloaded file.
- Select Run as administrator.
- Accept the license terms.
- Choose Remove & Reinstall when prompted.
- Allow the tool to remove the current Norton installation.
- Restart Windows when requested.
- Sign in to your Norton account if necessary.
- Complete the installation.
- Restart again if Norton requests it.
- Open Norton and confirm that protection is enabled.
- Start the program that previously reported
i2ldvp3.dll.
The tool removes installed Norton products and restarts Windows. It does not remove Norton Family. If the tool offers only removal or displays an error, use the normal Norton installer from your account after restarting.
A successful repair normally means the error no longer appears, the Norton service starts, and the product opens without reporting a missing component. If the error still appears before Norton starts, continue by checking for a stale startup entry or service.

Symantec Endpoint Protection, or SEP, is different from consumer Norton software. Enterprise clients may be controlled by an organization, protected against local changes, or dependent on a specific installation package and management policy.
If the computer belongs to an employer, school, or other organization, contact the administrator before removing SEP. Request the approved client package and repair instructions. Do not replace the DLL manually because doing so can interfere with tamper protection, policy registration, or communication with the management server.
Try Programs and Features first
- Press Windows + R.
- Type:
appwiz.cpl
- Press Enter.
- Select Symantec Endpoint Protection.
- Choose Change, Repair, or the available maintenance option.
- Follow the installer prompts.
- Restart Windows.
- Test the affected service or application.
Some installations expose repair through Settings instead:
- Open Settings.
- Select Apps.
- Choose Installed apps.
- Find Symantec Endpoint Protection.
- Open its menu.
- Select Modify, Repair, or Uninstall, depending on what is available.
Use MSI repair only with the correct product information
Broadcom documents MSI-based repair in the following general form:
msiexec.exe /f {PRODUCT-GUID}
Do not replace {PRODUCT-GUID} with a guessed value. The product code must come from the installed product’s uninstall entry or the approved SEP installation package.
Some SEP installations also contain a cached MSI under a path similar to:

If ordinary repair fails, uninstall SEP through the approved process and reinstall it from the organization’s package. Use Broadcom CleanWipe only when normal removal fails and your administrator approves it. CleanWipe is a last-resort removal utility, not the first repair step.

Fix 4: Remove a broken installation and reinstall it
A failed update or partial uninstall can leave a service pointing to a file that no longer exists. Reinstalling the owning product rebuilds its files, registry entries, services, and dependencies together.
For consumer Norton
- Open Settings.
- Select Apps.
- Choose Installed apps.
- Find the Norton product.
- Select its menu.
- Choose Uninstall.
- Follow the prompts.
- Restart Windows.
- Download Norton again from your Norton account or official Norton installer.
- Run the installer as administrator.
- Restart after installation.
- Test the original program.
If normal removal is incomplete, use Norton’s official Remove and Reinstall tool instead.
For enterprise SEP
Do not remove SEP casually from a managed computer. Ask the administrator to confirm:
- Which SEP release is approved
- Whether the client is managed
- Whether tamper protection must be disabled by policy
- Which installer matches the operating system
- Whether the device must be re-registered after installation
After reinstallation, confirm that the SEP client opens, receives policy, and reports current protection. Then test the executable that originally produced the error.

Outbyte PC Repair FREERepair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Outbyte Driver Updater FREEScan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Fix 5: Check 32-bit and 64-bit compatibility
i2ldvp3.dll is identified in public inventories as a 32-bit DLL. That does not mean it belongs in a Windows system directory. A 32-bit Symantec application can load its own 32-bit DLL from its private installation folder on 64-bit Windows.
This is why a legitimate copy may appear beneath:
C:Program Files (x86)
Do not move it to:
C:WindowsSystem32
or:
C:WindowsSysWOW64
Those folders are not interchangeable repair locations. Windows uses them for system and application compatibility, while an antivirus product normally loads private components from its own directory.
The installed Norton or SEP release must also support the Windows version and processor architecture. Older SEP releases may not support newer Windows versions, and some older Windows installations may require servicing updates before a newer SEP installer can run.
If installation fails on Windows 7 or Windows Server 2008 R2, the cause may involve required SHA-2 signing support or other prerequisites rather than this DLL itself. Use the compatibility requirements for the exact SEP release supplied by the administrator.

Fix 6: Determine whether a dependency is missing
The message “The specified module could not be found” does not always mean that i2ldvp3.dll itself is absent. Windows may have found the DLL but failed to load a dependency required by it.

Check the following:
- Confirm that the DLL exists in the product’s installation directory.
- Check the file’s Properties for a security block or unusual publisher.
- Confirm that the owning product is installed completely.
- Repair the product rather than adding random runtime files.
- Review Event Viewer for the failing executable.
- Check whether the error began after a product update or partial uninstall.
Do not install generic Visual C++, DirectX, or .NET packages unless the actual error names that component or the product documentation requires it. This DLL is an antivirus application component, not a general Windows runtime.
Fix 7: Repair Windows components only when Windows is also damaged
SFC and DISM do not normally recreate i2ldvp3.dll because it is not a protected Windows system file. They are useful when Windows Installer, the component store, or other protected system files are also failing.
Open an elevated Command Prompt:
- Open Start.
- Type
cmd. - Right-click Command Prompt.
- Select Run as administrator.
- Run:
DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth
- Wait for it to finish.
- Then run:
sfc /scannow
- Restart Windows.
- Retry the Norton or SEP repair.
Microsoft documents DISM for repairing the Windows image and SFC for protected system files. If both commands complete successfully but i2ldvp3.dll remains missing, repair the Symantec product instead of repeating these commands.
When Windows repair requires repeated manual scans and you do not know which component is damaged, Outbyte PC Repair can show what its free scan finds; repairs are handled by the full version, but reinstalling Norton or Symantec remains the definitive fix for this application DLL.
Fix 8: Update drivers only if the evidence points to a driver problem
A graphics, storage, network, or chipset driver normally does not supply i2ldvp3.dll. Driver troubleshooting is relevant only when the same incident includes device failures, blue screens, installation errors, or an application crash that identifies a driver component.
To check for driver problems:
- Press Windows + X.
- Select Device Manager.
- Expand the device category associated with the failure.
- Right-click the device.
- Choose Properties.
- Open the Driver tab.
- Review the provider, date, and status.
- Use Update Driver only with a driver from the computer or device manufacturer.
- Restart Windows.
- Retest the application.
Do not disable devices or roll back drivers merely because i2ldvp3.dll is missing. If several devices show warnings and manually hunting through manufacturer pages is the problem, Outbyte Driver Updater can identify outdated drivers with its free scan; installation is handled by the full version, and it is not a substitute for repairing Norton or SEP.
Fix 9: Use System Restore only after a known change
System Restore can help when the problem began immediately after a Norton update, software installation, or Windows change and normal repair is unavailable.
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
- Press Windows + R.
- Type:
rstrui.exe
- Press Enter.
- Choose a restore point created before the error began.
- Review affected programs.
- Start the restore.
- Restart Windows.
- Repair or update Norton afterward if necessary.
Do not use System Restore as the default response to a missing DLL. It may remove unrelated applications or updates without repairing the underlying antivirus installation.
Do not register or manually replace this DLL
regsvr32 is intended for DLLs that expose a registration entry point such as DllRegisterServer. It does not repair ordinary private application libraries.
Running this command is therefore not a valid default fix:
regsvr32 i2ldvp3.dll
It may produce an entry-point error, change nothing, or create confusion about the real problem. Only use regsvr32 when the application vendor specifically documents that the particular DLL must be registered.
Likewise, do not copy a DLL from another computer. Historical inventories show different versions and sizes for this filename, which demonstrates that there is no single universal replacement file. A mismatched copy can have different exports, dependencies, or security properties.
If the error remains after Norton is gone
If Norton or SEP has already been removed but Windows still reports i2ldvp3.dll, a stale reference may remain in:

Frequently asked questions
Is i2ldvp3.dll legitimate?
Yes, when it is inside a genuine Norton or Symantec installation directory and its publisher and signature are consistent with Symantec. A file with the same name elsewhere may be counterfeit, unrelated, or left behind by an incomplete installation.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsIs i2ldvp3.dll part of Windows?
No. It is associated with Norton AntiVirus and Symantec software, not Windows itself. Windows will not normally recreate it through SFC or Windows Update.
Should I download the missing DLL?
No. Random DLL downloads can contain malware, use the wrong architecture, lack required dependencies, or belong to an incompatible product version. Use the official Norton installer, your organization’s SEP package, or the product’s repair option.
Should I put it in System32?
No. The owning application normally loads its private copy from its own installation directory. A 32-bit copy may be located under Program Files (x86) on 64-bit Windows.
Did Norton quarantine it?
Possibly. Check Security History and the Quarantine category. Restore only after verifying that the item is a legitimate Norton or Symantec file and that the detection was a false positive. Otherwise reinstall the product.
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
Why does the message say that the specified module cannot be found?
Windows may be missing a dependency required by the DLL, even when the DLL itself is present. Product repair is safer than copying unrelated runtime files.
What if the error names a game or another application?
Identify the executable named in the message. If the application bundled or references an old Symantec component, repair that application too. There is no evidence that i2ldvp3.dll is general game middleware.
What is the correct version of this DLL?
There is no universal version that is correct for every Norton or Symantec installation. The matching version comes from the exact product release installed on the computer.
When should I contact an administrator?
Contact one before repairing or removing Symantec Endpoint Protection on a managed computer. The client may require an approved package, policy, password, or re-registration process.
