If several unrelated Windows components are also failing, repair Windows with DISM and SFC. If only one old application reports the error and no printer is installed, repair or reinstall that application instead.

Filesystem or Windows component corruption
Disk errors, an incomplete system-image restore, or broader Windows corruption can damage protected files. This is more likely when several unrelated Windows features are also failing.
An old application is loading a stale printer component
If no Canon printer is installed, an old application may contain or reference a printer module. In that case, reinstalling the application may be more effective than changing Windows printer settings.
Fix 1: Identify the caller and the printer model

- Press Windows + I.
- Select Bluetooth & devices.
- Select Printers & scanners.
- Select the affected Canon printer.
- Select Remove.
- Confirm the removal.
- Restart Windows.
On Windows 10, open Settings, select Devices, choose Printers & scanners, select the printer, and choose Remove device.
Removing the visible printer does not always remove every old driver package. Continue with Print Management if the error returns.
Remove the old driver package
Print Management is available in many editions of Windows, but not every Home installation exposes it.
- Press Windows + R.
- Type
printmanagement.msc. - Press Enter.
- Expand Print Servers.
- Expand the local computer.
- Select Drivers.
- Locate the Canon driver associated with the removed printer.
- Right-click it and select Remove Driver Package.
- Confirm the removal if Windows asks.
Do not remove drivers belonging to printers you still use. If Print Management is unavailable, open Device Manager instead:

- Select Device Manager.
- Open Print queues and Printers.
- Select an obsolete Canon entry.
- Choose Uninstall device.
- Enable Attempt to remove the driver for this device if that option appears.
- Restart Windows.
Also check View > Show hidden devices in Device Manager. Remove only stale Canon printer entries that clearly belong to the failed installation.
Install the correct package
Use Canon’s official support area and search by the exact printer model. Select the Windows version and architecture offered for that model. If Canon no longer provides a modern package, check Windows Update or the Microsoft Update Catalog for a matching Canon printer driver.
Do not substitute a driver for a similar-looking BJC model. Printer drivers can share family names while using different resource files, setup instructions, and hardware identifiers.
After installation:
- Restart Windows if the installer requests it.
- Open Settings > Bluetooth & devices > Printers & scanners.
- Add the printer again.
- Open Printer properties.
- Print a test page.
Success means the properties window opens without the DLL error and the test page reaches the printer. If the installer refuses to run, check whether it supports your Windows release and whether it requires compatibility mode. Compatibility mode cannot overcome every old driver-signing or spooler limitation.

Fix 3: Check Windows Update and the Microsoft Update Catalog
Microsoft has distributed Canon printer-driver packages through Windows servicing and the Update Catalog. The catalog includes Canon Bubble-Jet models in older printer-driver packages, including packages for AMD64 systems.
To check Windows Update:
- Press Windows + I.
- Select Windows Update.
- Select Check for updates.
- Install available printer or optional driver updates.

To inspect optional drivers:

The Microsoft Update Catalog is useful when Windows Update does not offer the package automatically. Search for the exact printer model, operating system architecture, and driver description. If the printer is very old, Windows 11 or Windows 10 may not have a fully compatible driver. Use this path when Windows reports broader file corruption, multiple drivers are failing, or the missing file appears to be part of a protected Windows installation.
Microsoft recommends running DISM before SFC because DISM repairs the component source that SFC uses.
Run DISM
- Open Start.
- Type
Command Prompt. - Right-click Command Prompt.
- Select Run as administrator.
- Select Yes if User Account Control appears.
- Enter this command:
DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth
- Press Enter.
- Wait for the operation to finish.
Do not close the window simply because progress appears to pause. DISM may take time while it checks and repairs the Windows component store.

Run SFC
When DISM completes, run:
sfc /scannow
Press Enter and wait for verification to reach 100 percent. Restart Windows afterward, even if SFC reports that it found and repaired files.

Possible results include:
- Windows Resource Protection did not find any integrity violations: Windows did not find protected-file corruption. Continue investigating the Canon driver or calling application.
- Windows Resource Protection found corrupt files and successfully repaired them: Restart and test printing again.
- Windows Resource Protection found corrupt files but was unable to fix some of them: Review the CBS log, run DISM again if needed, and consider Windows recovery or an in-place repair.
- Windows Resource Protection could not perform the requested operation: Restart into Safe Mode and repeat the scan, or investigate disk and Windows servicing problems.
Repeating SFC without knowing what changed can leave you guessing about the cause. Fix 5: Check antivirus quarantine safely
A quarantined file can produce a missing-DLL message, but do not restore it blindly.
- Open Windows Security.
- Select Virus & threat protection.
- Select Protection history.
- Look for an event involving the Canon driver or
cnbjdrc.dll. - Check the file location and detection details.
- Restore it only if the file clearly came from a legitimate Canon or Microsoft driver package.
- Run a full scan after restoring it.
- If the origin is uncertain, leave it quarantined and reinstall the driver from the official source.
If the file was restored but the error remains, the problem may be a missing dependent DLL, an incomplete package, or an incompatible driver rather than cnbjdrc.dll itself.

Fix 6: Determine whether a dependency is missing
The message The specified module could not be found does not always mean that the named DLL itself is absent. Windows may have found cnbjdrc.dll but failed to load another library that it requires.
Use the context to narrow this down:
- If the error began immediately after removing a printer, reinstall the complete printer package.
- If only one old application reports it, repair or reinstall that application.
- If only one Windows user sees it, test another user profile.
- If a game or launcher reports it, use that program’s file-verification or repair feature rather than installing printer files into the game folder.
- If printer properties fail across all programs, focus on the spooler and Canon driver package.
Do not copy the file into an application directory simply because that makes the message change. That can hide the original problem while leaving the wrong driver or dependency in place.
Do not use regsvr32 as a generic DLL repair
The command regsvr32 cnbjdrc.dll is not a recommended solution for this error.
regsvr32 is intended for DLLs that provide registration entry points such as DllRegisterServer. A printer resource or driver DLL may not provide that entry point. Registering it can produce another error without repairing the printer package.
Microsoft documents the command’s purpose and syntax in its regsvr32 documentation. Use it only when the specific software vendor or Microsoft instructions explicitly require registration of that particular DLL.
Should you copy cnbjdrc.dll into System32 or SysWOW64
No universal path should be assumed.
Printer drivers may be stored in the Windows driver store, printer-driver directories, or package-specific locations. The correct location depends on Windows version, driver architecture, and how the package was installed.

The presence or absence of the file in C:WindowsSystem32 does not prove that it belongs there. On 64-bit Windows, SysWOW64 is associated with 32-bit system components, but copying a file there is not a substitute for installing the correct printer driver.
Manual replacement is appropriate only in a controlled repair using a verified copy from the same Windows build and architecture, ideally after SFC identifies the exact protected file. A random download may have the wrong version, architecture, signature, or malicious modifications.
What not to install
Do not install every runtime package because the missing item ends in .dll.
These are not the correct first response to cnbjdrc.dll:
- Visual C++ Redistributables
- DirectX packages
- .NET runtimes
- Game DLL packs
- Random DLL replacement utilities
- A driver for a similar Canon model
- A file copied from another Windows computer
The correct source is the complete Canon driver package for the exact printer, Windows Update, or a matching Microsoft Update Catalog package.
